You're doing the same thing when you take Mier and Fabian out of the copa america team. Especially since the defense is the worst part of the u 22 team.

At least Jona can challenge for a starting spot since he has played with the senior team (NZ).

Jona it is then. Mofo can distribute the ball well and take some nice shots toward the GK. he made a few in Barca B.

Mier is alright but he hasn't been tested in big games so thats my worry about him.

vale verga Michel. He's always caught off guard. sadly I prefer Ochoa than Michel.

Reynoso? Lol coming from preseason what's the point? Terrible replacements IMO, Michel and Mier are staying with the U-22 so might as well not count them.

I feel bad for the kids playing Copa America, they're gonna get raped down there.

from mediotiempo.com

Ideally Corona should be the one guarding the goal, but he headbutted his chance out of that.

If there's one thing I can say about Mexican football is that goalies tend to range from decent to very good, although not excellent.

Orozco should be starting and you know it. But Talavera has been solid in the back I have no complaints.

None of the replacements will even see the bench. Except maybe Aguilar.

Héctor Reynoso, Paul Aguilar and Hiram Mier. Will travel with the Gold Cup squad.
Michel and Fabian will travel with the Copa America to its next friendlies. Will be in S America.

They can actually replace injured players if they make a request. iirc.

I agree with you on Orozco. Dude is second to Corona. However Talavera has been ok. There were some shots from los chapines that didn't need him to do some fancy dives for the ball or run out from his GK area to punch a ball out (I really hate seeing tala do that..leaving his post).

Reynoso is too slow for fast players and Paul Aguilar gets easily pushed aside from the ball. I am glad that Fabian is there.

Fabian is a beast and we needed him since the start of the Gold Cup. He's has made several goals ever since being in the u-22 squad and always involved in dangerous plays for el tri. He's a great addition to the team to be honest.

I see him as a 2nd half sub for Barrera, Gio or Guardado or if not start him off rather than Barrera.

Wow at england, in all fairness to the players i think i blame pearce. He didnt know his best lineup changed it nearly every game, he didnt know his best tactics again changed them nearly every game. He also seemed to scare the shit out of the players so they played within themselfs. Football at that age should be about expressing yourself not grinding out results, he sucked that out of the team and left a wannabe prem side looking to grind out results.

Its the Under 21s, the team is supposed to be getting experience for the senior team.

Makes sense to rotate the players so they all get a go.

You do that in friendlies, so you know how to play in the final tournament. Shouldn't be any different from the senior team.

Agree with this to some extent. Pearce should hopefully be switched when Capello steps down after the Euros.

so Villas-Boas is joining Chelsea since they met his 15 million release clause.
surely if he's paying that much for him Roman will give him at least 2 seasons.

I would hope 2 seasons minimum - but given how we're treated previous managers so poorly I wouldn't be shocked to see him leave beforehand.

Still - he seems like an excellent young manager and his Porto side scored a LOT of goals and had some real flair in the side - something that we've been lacking for a long long time.

Villas Boas to Chelsea apparently. Not good. Not good for other teams, that is.

You rate him that highly?

Not good for Villas-Boas, he's better than a season or two at Chelsea before being discarded. I want to see him do well due to his (somewhat) distance links to the North-East of England.

He's the attacking version of Jose Mourinho!

I can see this happening, with Hiddink as sporting director. A frightening prospect.

Didn't expect him to leave Porto so soon. It is funny how Chelsea have paid £15m for one of their former coaches ot now manage them.

Yep, at Porto last season his win percentage was something ridiculous like 85%. Great manager who plays fantastic football, just a shame that he'll probably get 2 seasons max knowing Abramovich. He deserves better treatment than that.

Porto had an amazing team, it wasn't just him.

EDIT: btw, Portuguese newspapers are saying reporting that as a fact (Porto has already been informed by Vilas Boas and Chelsea of their intention to pay the clause).

True but also he really has talent for picking out players with talent. Personally, I think he made Hulk the attacking phenomenon he be came last season.

I'm not saying he's not a good coach, far from that. My local club (Académica) was the first club he managed and everybody noticed his talent right away.

However, the real star is Falcao (he's easily worth 30+ goals per season). Apparently, Chelsea will also take him.

In face we should just give him to wolves for free, no questions asked

If that's the only way they'll take him, then yes we should. He would actually be worth quite a bit to our finances because of the saved wages, and looking at that finances article yesterday, we wouldn't be making as big a loss on him as thought because of the way amortisation works.

In other news, "Stuart Pearce set to sign new England Under-21 deal". Joy.

Falcao, Torres, Drogba, Anelka, Lukaku, Kalou, Sturridge, Malouda, De Bruyne - something has to give.

Malouda, Anelka are out for sure - I'll believe Falcao when I see it - and I'd love to see Sturridge given a chance. I have no idea what system we'll play next season, what personnel we'll have but I'm finally getting excited about it.

De Bruyne and Lukaku are under 19, you can't have the team depend on them.
Malouda and Kalou aren't strikers.
Drogda is amazing but he's getting older.
Sturridge isn't good enough for Chealsea.
Torres... Well, wtf was Roman thinking signing Torres for that amount of money?

tl.dr: considering Drogba is 33 years old, Falcao would be Chelsea's best sriker, without a doubt.

I was talking more broadly about attacking options - if we stuck with the 4-3-3 formation those are the players who would be competing for those 3 positions.

I wouldn't say rely on Lukaku or De Bruyne - but they're still excellent options.
I think Malouda should go - Kalou is good as backup but not good enough for the first 11.
I'd keep Drogba but he'd have to be committed enough to appreciate his position on the bench.
Sturridge - well I disagree - I think he has the potential to become a top player for the side, but he needs an extended run of games to develop.
And I would never defend any signing that's over 40 million - I don't know what he was thinking.
