I felt the same thing when Man City beat Man U in the FA Cup semi - it was a beautiful game, and it was nice to see that Man City today is nothing like the Man City of the past few decades.

As a City fan, it was incredible. It was just one of those great footballing stories

I agree that our midfield probably isn't as weak as I made it out to be,but it certainly isn't strong enough in comparison to other teams.I was only 9 when United won the treble but even then I could see that the midfield of Keane,Beckham,Scholes and Giggs was something special. Our midfield now is miles behind those four. The youth players like Cleverley,Morrison and Pogba have the potential to be stars but it's still a bit too soon for them right now.I think Defour would be a good option but the way things are in the transfer market Standard aliege would probably ask for 25 million and theres no way United would pay over the odds for him like that

I understand what you're saying, and that treble-winning midfield was magical, but I wouldn't describe our current midfield as "miles behind", especially factoring in squad depth. It certainly stacks up in terms of prowess on the European stage over the past four seasons and we can't really evaluate it post-Scholes yet.

As for the Defour for 25m rubbish, that originated from a twitter account that's pretty obviously bogus. Making the same claims of exclusive at the exact same time as before he's now claiming that United will bid 23m + Park for Modric. Ridiculous stuff. And looking back through his history, all he posts about are United rumours. Probably a RedCafe member spinning muppetry of the first order on a lark.

Money conquers all?

Maybe. But there was lots of work to be done at City at the time of the take over, the club were on the verge of going bankrupt thanks to Thaksin and his frozen assets.

Credit is due.

I know the Defour twitter thing was a wind up but in a summer when Henderson has gone to Liverpool for 20m and Jones to United for 16m, 25m for Defour whilst too much may well be the asking price.
Oh and the Park + 25m for Neymar was my favourite twitter muppetry. :p

It was truly a game for all Man City fans to remember.

I didn't object to you calling the Barca game beautiful.

I know :p

So what :p? Money talks. For the Man City fans though, that money was put to good use for the most part, and that's what matters no?

I think I said much the same thing--market's pretty crazy right now, so why not 5m more than Henderson? And I could still half-believe it if the source were in any way reputable. Guy is obviously having a laugh. Should be fun to see how many more "exclusives" he has over the next several weeks.

Would of liked Spain to go out to upset the Spanish wank fest that happens over on RAWK.

aw... well, Spain under-21 won 3-1 after all, maybe next time. You simply cannot score a lucky goal and spend the rest of the match with 10 men around your goal keeper like pussies and praying that the other team won't get a level instead of playing actual football. They almost got it though, almost.

What do you mean so what? It's the only reason anybody gives a fuck about City (apart from their fans) and its the only reason City can attract the type of player they do. Not to mention the fact that they have spunked a lot of money down the drain and pay a few of their player outrageous wages.

Their pretty much Chelsea Mark II. For fans of teams like the mighty Everton the whole situation must stink.

It was a good win for City, but I wouldn't exactly call "getting an absolute ton of money chucked at the team until the players bought with said money are of a high enough standard that it's difficult not to do well" a great footballing story, to be honest.

Didn't you guys pay around £20m for Anderson? So Defour = Anderson + £5m? Definitely worth it!

Edit* Wonder how much Javi Martinez would go for? Is it just taken as a given that he will stay at Bilbao?

When Anderson was bought, he was considered one of the biggest young talents in the world. Defour doesn't have anywhere near the same hype price factor.

You have to consider that Anderson at the time was one of the best 18-year-olds in football at the time, every big club was after him.

I guess my point is, if you're willing to spend over £20m on an 18 year old prospect from South America, a similar price for an established international should be no problem.

That said, it's a bit silly comparing players/prices. Every club and situation is different. I believe Defour would be a great buy for United, and if they can afford £25m they should do it (I know the twitter is likely bullshit)

Still gutted Chelsea didn't take Hiddink off our hands. Rumour was he wanted to take Arda to Chelsea too. That would have been rices and beans.

Defour would be a great signing but David Gill has already said he'd try to conduct all his transfers in June, which only leaves a week for more transfers to go through.I think United should see into the availability of Nasri. He only has a year left on his contract and would be a great addition to the team, probably be cheaper than Defour too. That Gill story may be complete crap I dont really know for sure. :p

wtf Gill dont be a lazy twat. make use of the whole summer!
i'm pretty sure its bullshit. at least i hope it is

Dont see why City are still so desperately pursuing Sanchez when it seems he wants to play for Barca. I know the deal can still happen and people may see this as a dig, maybe it is, but chasing players who don't really want to play for you is a little bit "small time".

Re transfers fees :- players values are not to be compared. Sahin went for £8m this summer. He is better than Anderson and Henderson put together. You have to look at each deal separately. Personally I think Liverpool paid way over the odds for Henderson in that moment. When United bought Anderson it was an okay deal, he was a supreme talent at the time. I still think he can be fantastic, clearly gifted and if he finds better fitness and consistency he can be great.

To say that Manchester City is a good thing for football, is like saying that Blatter is good for football...
While I agree to a point, I do think that more competitive teams are a good thing for the league as a whole. Not necessarily a good thing for the sport though.

First it was United bidding on our targets (if rumours were to be believed), now it's PSG?!

Apparently we wont go higher than 5 million for Clichy due to his contract situation.

Something something Henderson....

Even with the contract situation Clichy would cost more than £5m. International LB with plenty of PL and CL experience as well. Alot of players with only a year left on their deal are going for a lot more and aren't as good.

Happy with our two signings today. We're probably the worst team in the league at attacking set pieces so Larsson is very much welcome. His deliveries cannot possibly be any worse than Henderson's. Westwood is better than Mig and will be good cover for Gordon when he gets back from injury in October... unless we sell Gordon in which case Bruce goes back to being a colossal fucking idiot.

And our first game of the season is live on Sky. Which means the Mags game probably won't be on TV.

Good. Let the stayaways miss out.

It's part of the plan, buy players so other clubs can't!

Seriously though, Sanchez has been a target for them for a few months but I'm pretty sure they said they wouldn't pay over the odds for players this summer, which they now seem to be going back on...and as I said before, it seems clear he wants to play for Barca and it set on that move, sure City/Inter/Whoever could still end up signing him just by paying a price Barca will refuse to but it's always a fools errand buying a player essentially forced into a transfer.

They mentioned that Edin Dzeko deal was their last 'lets waste money' type of deal they were going to do, now they are paying 40 millions for Sanchez?
