united are hardly lacking in the talent department. will be amazing to see sanchez in barca colors hopefully, same for cesc in my opinion (not that we really have a use for him, but he is another amazing player, who wouldnt want him)

I know! Acting like a bit of a spoilt child! But nonetheless, Barca and Real hold sway unlike any other clubs.

Cesc is going to be awesome at Barca. There seems to be a suggestion he isn't good enough for them or not as good as Xavi and Iniesta. Not at the moment maybe, but he definitely can be for me. What Fabregas has achieved and the level he has got to at such a young age is incredible really. How do Barca fans see his transfer? He was boo'ed last season at the Camp Nou I remember. Tongue in cheek?

Chris Hughton is to be Brum's new manager. Good fella and great to see him back in management after his unfair dismissal from the Toon.

Damn. I like Hughton.

The booing last year was wierd to me, I think the transfer stuff had started at that point and arsenal were having none of it. Fab will fit in great at barca and will someday replace xavi (unless that whole cloning thing pans out) I think he is worth the 40 million to be honest. Rosell is being a dick saying he devalued since last year, but it seems like a negotiating tactic. I have a wierd feeling fab is going nowhere because he is not willing to hand in the transfer request (understandibly so) arsenal also dont want to lose their captain.

But at some point it is counter productive to have a player, your captain at that, playing for your team when you know all he is thinking about is that he wants to go home. He is being incredibly professional about it and I commend him for that. I would hate it to become nasty like the mascherano deal did (him refusing to play)

Cesc is a better passer than Xavi, imo, his defense splitting through balls are amazing, it's just that Xavi reads the flow of the matches exceptionally well.

they play fairly different roles, so it is pretty tricky to compare them (xavi's main job is to maintain possesion and slowly advance to ball, not to create scoring chances).

and yeah, fabregas is surrounded by a bunch of scrubs.

yeah, if rvp wasn't a permacrock that argument might be more convincing.

Hate the whole "let's post on the internet and always exaggerate the hell out of everything" thing that everyone does. They aren't scrubs and you know it

Even if he is injured all the time, his strike rate when healthy is incredible, and Arsenal aren't as hopeless as their empty trophy case indicates

So if De Gea stays put at Athletico as seems to be a possibility, who is going to be United's new no 1. keeper? Are they even linked with anyone else?
Adler? he's still the second best keeper in germany and there were some rumours

I'm completely freaking out right now! He was really the only manager I wanted to see go to Chelsea. I just hope he can figure out Torres
Eh, you didn't want to see Guus back at Chelsea?

To be honest either appointments would be incredible, but I think AVB's age and achievements in such a short space of time do still make him my preferred candidate. Still though, between those two we were utterly spoilt for choice - love it!

Not too fussed on the Torres thing... I mean, he's an amazing talent and I really want him to do well, and think he can do well (fwiw I now have two Spanish shirts with Torres on the back! so not anti-Torres at all) but the number one priority is to win things playing attractive football - hopefully Torres will be a part of that, but if it's someone else like Falcao, Lukaku, Drogba etc playing at Torres' expense then so be it.

I'm interested to note the presumption that AVB will be an instant success in the EPL.

Not seeing it personally. Then again I didn't with Mourinho either. Is lightning going to strike twice here?

Haha Jake Humphrey (BBC journalist/presenter) just tweeted that he watched the CL final with Villas Boas and at the time he said Chelsea was a non-starter!

Would love to sit and watch a match with a top level football manager...could learn so much in those 90 mins alone.

Speaking of which did the AVB leaked scouting reports from his time at Chelsea get posted here? Those were incredible.

Incredibly in-depth - love it!

Nice that after the sheer apathy (see: laziness) of someone like Scolari, we now have someone like AVB who really, really puts in as much effort as possible to ensure he knows every single thing about each team we play :)

Didn't know that happened... Time to test my google-fu skills...

EDIT: http://www.bragafut.com/artigos/art18.pdf

Great level of analysis. If he instills that sort of rigor on a consistent basis, as his Europa Cup win with Porto suggests, then Chelsea will have a great manager for a long, long time. Unfortunately, this is Abramovich we're talking about: I expect him to be railroaded on squad and transfer decisions within a season and let go at the first sign of a trophy-less season. Pity. He could build a dynasty in the form of SAF or Wenger, like Jose before him, if only the brass and bureaucracy (see: REMs) at Stamford Bridge let him.

Nice one. Can't believe them plonkers sacked him for Pardew!

If a remark about sacking managers had come from a fan of any other club, I may have been a bit annoyed. However, I find the irony amusing!

Glad Hughton is back in a job, nice guy (too nice) with a lot of time for people. Just have to wait and see now if he's as good as he was, or if it was the team that pulled him through the Championship.

Still don't agree with how he was treated up here, but its happened and its time to move on. Pardew is doing OK, if not just the same as Hughton was managing (even if we are seeing more goals now).

In most instances, I am not a fan of bring coaches, managers back. They left )for whatever reason), they're done.

Good points about Torres.

It's done Chelsea fans :) - Say hello to the new manager who is officially the youngest of all managers in the Premiere League, at 33 :)

Nice! Gonna be a long wait to the start of the season...

Villas Boas will most likely be an instant success, he has worked at Chelsea before, fluent in English but the only doubt is how he will handle the Champion's League and transfers forced upon him by Abramovich.

Fergie's seen off Mourinho, Wenger and Benitez; I look forward to seeing how he will handle AVB.

I see we've given him a 3 year contract like Ancelotti had. I guess they felt the 4 years Scolari got was a bit much haha.

Im very excited to see what he will do with the team and also interested to see who we bid for in the coming weeks.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
I can't wait to see how Villas-Boas does. If he doesn't get off to a flying start who knows what Roman will do.

So because the club I support sacks manager I'm not aloud to agree with the masses that Hughton's dismissal was stupid? It's not like I was having a go. And anyway, not really the same. Newcastle got rid of Hughton, a good coach for Pardew. We got rid of Ancelotti (who I liked) for Villas-Boas, not to shabby for us really.

For what it's worth (nothing). I can't see Roman dumping Villas-Boas if he wins nothing this year. I really do think we'll hold on to him, as long as he's doing a good job and we are competing. It would be fair to say that near the end Ancelotti wasn't very inspiring. I think that's why we got rid of him, more so than because of the lack of silverware.

So now all the managers have been sorted out, will we finally see some interesting transfer activity?

Whats the latest on the excellent GAF transfer by league post that someone was working on?

I get the sense this AVB fiasco will be a colossal failure for Chelsea. Their problems stem from the top, aka Abramovich, who is seemingly incapable of running a football club in a clear direction. The cunt has more dollars than sense.

Not necessarily interesting (depends on who are fans though) but Juventus has just shelled out 35m Euros for 4 players that were there on loan last season:

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12961_7000599,00.html

To be honest, there's been a few instances of busy dealing for a select few clubs. Newcastle sped out of the gate to nab 3 good players and are on course to tie down another 3 at least if possible (now revealed that Matuidi and Erding are interested in moves, then there's Neil Taylor who should finalize his move). This is even before the formal signing-on date of July 1. Then there are the Henderson and Jones signings for Liverpool and Man Utd respectively, along with - hopefully - confirmations on De Gea and Young for the latter. Plus the whole Sanchez situation.

Overall, I think the last month has proved to be quite entertaining despite the window not going in to full flow yet.

Well that's one box checked and done with.

Reports are he's going to have 80 to 100 million to splash down on transfers. Up to 30 will probably head back to Porto for his boy, so that'll leave room for at least one mega signing. I would like to know who's departing though because the squad is already rather bulky.

And that will further make it difficult for any of the young lads at Chelsea to break into the squad. Despite having one of the best youth setups in English football, I find it hard to believe they'll ever successful develop any home grown talent. You've had one or two show promise, but they'll never get more then 5 games a season!

So what does everyone think about next seasons champions league? It may be too early to tell but if Barca sign Sanchez (which looks likely)then I can see them winning the competition again and again for years, which is highly depressing.

It's always hard to predict when it gets to the knockout stages but I think Barca are the favourites again with Madrid, United and Chelsea once again being their closest challengers.

Yup, but can someone please take real out before barca have to do it again? we don't need another four(five) classico adventure.

oh we do!

next season there is potential for 7 el clasicos (kicking the season off with 2 barca vs madrid in supercopa!)

Yeah thats true I'm a United fan myself so I'm hopeful that with our new signings the squad will be strengthened enough to have a good run.I'm not sure about Chelsea being a favourite though.Their midfield was as poor as ours last season. It all depends on who they sign during the summer and whether Villas-Boas gets them to play well as a unit.If Torres starts scoring again all bets are off though

Yes please. I do not want to have to sit through another bitchfest in the CL again. They can save that for their league fixtures.
