That's the most presumptuous statement I've heard in here since at least yesterday!
Played for Athletico playing against Barca and Madrid, he has won the Europa League and is regarded as a very good goalkeeper already.

If he carries on playing the way he did at Athletico then I don't see anything wrong with his statement. I doubt Fergie wanted to waste money and time going through many different goalkeepers again so he just went with someone young and a similar keeper to Edwin.

Like the white one. old barca kit?

No that's the Catalunian National Team's kit. They play exhibition games as they're not recognised by FIFA. You can look them up on Wikipedia, they usually destroy whoever else they're playing just like Barca do.

Valdes, Jordi Codina, Bruno Saltor, Juan Capdevila, Pique, Puyol, Alberto Lopo, Fernando Navarro, Oleguer, Busquets, Fabergas, Xavi, Sergio Gonzales, Verdu, Moises Hurtado, Gabri Garcia, Oscar Serrano,Bojan Krkic, Sergio Garcia and Ferran Corominas.

That was their squad for a friendly with argentina not so long ago. Iniesta has also played for them as a guest player, sure why not :0

love the kits though, and they are apparently quite rare.

£8m rising to £12m with clauses... lad on readytogo had this all spot on days before reported in the papers. Shame his source was on Ipswich's end, not SAFCs. Oh well.

Cracking signing imo.

Why are you surprised by the clause in Thiago's contract? Majority of La Liga players have ridiculous buy out clauses purely because they have to have one.

You need to have a release clause in your contract in Spain don't you? I remember seeing fairly average players with crazy release clauses too, guess it's just to be sure that their transfers is in the clubs hands.

Edit : dammit need to learn to read all posts.

Hunter talking about fabregas, this sounds about right.

@BumperGraham Graham Hunter
@Jagsy10 I suspect deal will be done at €36m up front plus add ons which will soon give AFC 40m

Still, 90m is a lot. Barca is obviously in a position to do that with their players, because it would take a special kind of idiot to try to bargain your way into a contract that lets you out easily when you're already wearing the Best Team in the World™'s kit.

They're one of the few clubs in the world where any new signings aren't going to be looking ahead 4-5 years in the future and thinking "this ship might sink so I'm gonna need a way off."

In fact I think Barca may be the only club in the world like that.

I read somewhere those release clauses only apply within Spain?

Anyhow, nvm the clause, that they have offered and he has signed a new contact means they are not and were not ever interested in selling...and why would they be. Was never gonna be sold. App his last contract had a clause that said he had to be a part of the first team squad.

Also, De Gea! Awesome. Guess the while agent thing didn't play out as expected, wonder what's happening there. Anyhow, he's a good keeper and a great prospect, could be the worlds best in a few years, or close enough. Gonna be a tough start for him, but there's no reason not to be optimistic! Very important we got this done early so he has the whole of pre-season to settle in.

SAF has quietly gone about putting in place the United team of the future. Such a great manager when it comes to squad building.

I think they honestly considered him as a makeweight in the deal for Fabregas, thinking that with Cesc, Alcantara wouldn't be getting any first team football, and with a buy-back clause, they could take him back if he proved a success and wouldn't be at any major loss if he wasn't.

Now Arsenal is clear they want cash only, and very few clubs would be interested in what is essentially a multi-season loan where they have to shoulder all the wages.

Setting of release clauses is strategically high in La Liga where they are the norm, so clubs can ensure some leverage in letting their players go. Otherwise, the renewal was a no-brainer. Any thought of Barca selling that kid would be insane. His awareness, touch and passing under pressure is amazingly smooth. He's going to be some player.

can't wait for the season to start :)
Me too! I see AVB scrapped the first friendly against Vitesse Arnhem. Makes me confident he has come clout.

Like I've said before, I know history doesn't back it up. But I can see AVB getting kept around so long as he's moving in the right direction, even if we don't win anything in the first few seasons.

Edit: Interesting link...

Ex-Chelsea boss Avram Grant claims Roman Abramovich is an easy man to work for, despite reports to the contrary.

Cracking mate, ssn reckon he turned down a move to liverpool. He has a much better chance of playing first team football here.

Shoemaker's head is a bit wider, but I can see it. I doubt the Spaniards voice is nearly as deep though.

The way that ginger cunt Adrian Durham is going on about SAFC and its fans at the moment is borderline slander. What a bitter little bottler he is. Oh how I wish Carragher had nutted the fucking berk.

Whatever happened to Leo Franco? I perplexed of hearing De Geas name these days as I remember Leo Franco being one of hell of a keeper for Athletico Madrid.

Owner of Birmingham has been arrested tonight due to suspect in money laundering according to news in HK.

Maybe another story that shows not to buy a club if you don't know how to run it......

Spurs table bid in the region of €8million for M'Baye Niang

There's no way this guy is 16. I'd prefer to see us make offers for Llorente and Muniain.

Eh, €8 is pretty much the money we got for O'Hara plus 2.5 extra. I trust Harry when it comes to transfers, Palacios, Friedel, VDV, Sandro, Gallas, Pienaar, Kranjcar, Defoe, etc have all been decent signings. Personally I think we should have tried to pinch Wickham but that's done now.

£12 million is too much of a risk. He'll probably do ok at Sunderland, but to put someone that age under that much pressure would also be a poor decision in my view. Remember that Bent couldn't really deal with it. Internacional turned down around £10 million for Leandro Damiao. I'd much prefer us to return with a better offer for a Brazilian international than someone who would probably be back up to Pavlyuchenko.

Edit: And that's no insult to Connor Wickham. Pav is incredibly talented but tends to drift out of games if he doesn't get the ball. He definitely gets the best reception of any player at WHL.

Given to Villa for £5m seems to be gaining some traction.

Hoping he's willing to take a wage cut. Not forking out £90k a week for a keeper. I'd rather not pay anything above £50k no matter who we bring in.

To be honest I think Harry has accepted the fact that Pav is a better player than the other strikers. He picked him in a lot of big league games, both Chelsea games, both Arsenal games, and there was a spell of games in the spring where he was working really hard, he even had a couple of clearances in the box and some good tackles. Like you say, it's just an issue of work rate, because he has superb talent. Some of his goals this year were brutally nonchalant strikes. If Harry can somehow light a fire under his backside and get him to do more in our half, I think he can be our No.1 striker, but all of Pav's coaches have talked about his lackadaisical attitude.

Anyway, I agree that at that price Wickham was a no-go. Damiao looks a decent prospect, especially with Sandro and Gomes here.

Honestly I think they could end up getting burned. He's a good keeper but he's starting to get a reputation for long-term injuries. You'd think they'd go for Foster before him.
