Graham Hunter has said he's had it confirmed to him that more than one EPL club is in negotiations with Valencia for Mata. Liverpool and Arsenal you'd expect. City too probs.

From whats been said, he was pretty useless to Carlo when he became his "assistant" and I like that AVB took him away from the first team but to put him as Sporting Director I can only assume is their way of not letting him go but still keeping him at the club.

Inquiry from Chelsea for Nasri as well
Cash plus player? Kalou or Zhirkov touted as possible players, if it would reduce the price by a decent amount then I don't mind although I think Kalou could be a good winger for us this season if we use him there.
Also read that Moutinho wants to stay at Porto, bit disappointed as he could be good for us but it depends who we get instead. Still hoping for Falcao to join Torres up top..
I reckon City are pre-occupied with Nasri. I'd say it's pretty nailed on to be us and Arsenal. Hope he sees all the turmoil going on at Arsenal currently and picks us, especially with Pepe doing a little convincing over the phone.farhatraza said:Graham Hunter has said he's had it confirmed to him that more than one EPL club is in negotiations with Valencia for Mata. You can have both.
If you want him and Arsenal want him, City want him. Don't worry about that.Arnie said:I reckon City are pre-occupied with Nasri. I'd say it's pretty nailed on to be us and Arsenal. Haha. I reckon Liverpool have a good shot at getting him. Would be a great signing for Liverpool or Arsenal both.Arnie said:*shivers

Dark Machine said:Well we keep offering money for people, and being told we need to offer more. I mean £9million for Adam who's just been relegated and has one year left on his contract?
£15million for Downing is a reasonable offer too, but it's Villa, so it'll be like the Barry situation all over again, except I doubt someone like City will come in for him this time. Why we can't make offers for Mata, Shaqiri or Marin is beyond me. They represent better value despite the need to fill English quotas.

I mock but I agree, I'd love to have videos like that on LFCTV, luckily it isn't that far behind and we even did one of those tunnel cams at the tail end of last season. Hopefully we'll get there in a season or so. Speaking of that video I really like Kompany, he seems really humble and friendly, looks like a nice guy, especially compared to the likes of Balotelli.dc89 said:Look at this! Not true at all. Whether you agree with it the 'rhyme and reason' is to buy quality British talent. And from what Mark Lawrenson said yesterday to a fan who met him, Kenny sees Adam as a player in the Alonso mould who can pick a pass from deep and can also control the tempo of the game. Secondly, being a midfielder with a decent delivery on him he can get the ball to Carroll's head much better than what we have at the moment, be it from open play or set pieces.Chriswok said:No Rhyme or Reason to these Liverpool signings at the moment, they just seem to be signing anyone and everyone. None of them really link together, or compliment each other.

It's a huge shame that he couldn't sustain fitness at united, he has great ability to play well as an anchor in the midfield. Time will tell if Jones is going to be used more to fill that position than to play at CB, which could be an interesting decision.
Best of luck to Hargreaves wherever he ends up. As long as he stays fit he'll be a huge boost for most teams in the league.
Also: Modric to be told he cannot leave Tottenham Hotspur - BBC Football

Honestly this is actually the signing that makes most sense Chriswok and I'm surprised someone like yourself (coach) cannot see that. Unless you're just trolling because it's Liverpool.

HixxSAFC said:How do Liverpool fans even see their midfield shaping up at the moment? With Carroll and Suarez you've got to think its 4-4-2; Adam on the left and Henderson on the right, Gerrard and Lucas in the middle? On paper that looks decent but if Dalglish has signed Henderson and Adam to play centrally, I'm very interested to see what he does.

I don't think it's sugar coating to describe Adam the way I did, he's got a great delivery and he's in the Alonso mould(not to say he's as good, just his style is similar).Chriswok said:Sounds like you're sugar coating.
This isn't true at all. Adam is extremely capable in open play which is why he was so highly rated last season and why he managed to make his way into many teams of the season. My dad lives not far from Blackpool so a few of his friends are Blackpool fans and they seem to be of contrary opinion to you too. I think if what I said was classed as sugar coating then what you just said is the opposite, you're underselling Adam's ability.Chriswok said:Charlie Adam at Blackpool did a good job, but he took everything, and touched the ball in every attack. His forced passing probably helped to set up as many goals for the opposition (via interceptions) then he managed to set up for his own team in open play.
He'll probably do well for Carroll via freekicks and corners, but I can't see him being much use in open play for Liverpool.
I don't think the two were bought to play in the same team, at least initially. We seem to be suiting up for multiple lineups and multiple styles of play so the two not exactly complementing each other may not be much of an issue. Or Henderson could be played at the right of a midfield quartet with Adam at the left. Oh and I've been assured that Adam isn't slow, his top speed isn't much but he's deceptively quick at covering those first 5 yards which is what you need for a deep lying midfielder.Chriswok said:How does he link up with Henderson? Both are very similar players (both lacking any pace or any real defensive qualities).
I honestly think Adam (and his delivery) was brought in to supplement Carroll, not Suarez. As you say Suarez does just fine with what we already have and I expect him to flourish with players such as Raul, Kuyt, Maxi, Gerrard and Aquilani who all like to play in and around him making quick runs and short, sharp passes.Chriswok said:Adam might link up well with Suarez, but then, Suarez does well by himself and yet while its early doors doesn't seem to link up well with Carroll.
Liverpool midfield:
Gerrard
Adam
Henderson
Meireles
Rodríguez
Lucas
Spearing
Aquilani
No 'Winger', only one 'wide man' in Henderson. Vast majority of those players are very similar.
Just seems to be a case of signing someone because of hype, and perhaps Homegrown Rule.
Wasn't Barry one of the City players involved in the student party thingymajig. Anyhow, Kompany is a cool dude. £6m, now that's a deal, further proof there are players out there who Arsenal could afford and sign. How old is he? Can't be much more than 25?dc89 said:Kompany is a legend. He looks to be a really quiet guy too, shy's away from the typical footballers life style. Barry is like that too, he'd rather spend time at home with his wife and kids.

Liverpool agree a deal for Charlie Adam.
