Wait they reduce footballers tax free allowance, I know it barely makes a difference but its kind of underhanded.

They do it to everyone who earns enough. To be honest I agree with it since the tax free allowance is only designed to help lower earners. BUT I think this is derailing the thread and am sorry for posting it.

Seeing Aquilani back in a Liverpool shirt and looking fit was awesome today by the way.

Sneijder is one of the best midfielders in the world. Still, I think the deal is a bit of a gamble because of his past injury history.

Compared to hargreaves, he should be alright ;)
iirc, didn't he collapse in the dressing room this season during half-time? I'm sure they said it was due to a lack of iron or something. As long as it's not something long term, any team in the premiership would take him.

^ Think its a very bad move for liverpool if he was sold, he was your best mid-fielder last season and he's better than aquilani imo.

Can anyone who watched the U-17 World Cup tell me if this article is true in it's gushing of Samed Yesil? He sounds like a great young player, and Arsenal could definitely use someone like him.
He's really great. That article is a bit too much praise, though, I don't think something like this helps a young player that much. At 17, of course, he has to improve a lot. The most obvious thing is that he's losing the ball too easy pretty often when he's alone in the front and should just keep the ball a bit until some team mates can help him. But yeah, he can become big.

I guess it's true that Wenger is interested because there were rumors from Germany 2-3 weeks ago, too. But Arsenal won't get him for now. He signed a new contract at Leverkusen until 2016 and said after the World Cup that he'll stay.

Saw this over at Caf. Fucking sublime :lol

Wenger blasts 'disrespectful' Xavi

Xavi told the Barcelona website on Wednesday: "I spoke to Cesc in Ibiza and he said he was suffering because he wanted to come. It's more like he did everything he could to come and wants to leave Arsenal - although he made it clear that now everything depends on the selling club.''

When asked about this latest development, the Arsenal manager was not pleased, and replied: "I cannot comment on every comment [involving Fabregas]. What is important is Cesc has a contract with Arsenal, and we want to keep him."

Wenger also did not mince words about Xavi's comments.

"A mutual respect should stand between the two clubs", the manager said. "Xavi has been very disrespectful to Arsenal football club."

Xavi needs to keep his mouth shut. He's a great player, but he's also an idiot. I wonder how much Barca is paying him to work on their transfer targets for them? The amount he talks about Cesc, you'd think he was getting a portion of the transfer sale.

I love Xavi as a player but he needs to stop talking. He always comes off as a total douche.

I remember reading an interview with Xavi for The Guardian a while back. It was actually one of the best interviews I've ever read. The man speaks with an intelligence, honesty and personality that you just don't get from interviews with footballers. It was nice to read an interview with a player who had his head screwed on, rather than listening to somebody wheeled infront of a microphone by obligation to wobble their bottom lip to a tune of cliches.

This is all abit naughty, but I think the problem lies with Barcelona rather than Xavi. I've no doubt Xavi has spoken to Fabregas. They are team mates at national level, former team mates at Barcelona youth level and presumably friends. I'm sure they talk about the issue regularly. It is however a little lacking in class from Barcelona. You'd certainly hope they'd show a little more respect to a club that Guardiola has gone on record as saying is one he admires.

This is just the way the two major Spanish clubs do their business, though. Madrid have used Marca! as their mouthpiece for years.

Sounds like being a douche is part of the training in youth FC Barcelona teams.

Well that's the definition of possession football isn't it :p ? " ONLY OUR TEAM IS ALLOWED TO PLAY WITH THE BALL "

If Cesc didn't want Xavi to make those comment I'm pretty sure he would've tell him a long time ago. I'm pretty sure Cesc doesn't mind Xavi making those comments, heck wouldn't surprise me if Cesc himself told him to say that stuff.

Cesc should stop fucking around and make it public he wants to go Barcelona. This transfer saga is getting boring.

He has. He doesn't need to say it every summer. Everyone already knows. It's not that Cesc wants to leave and that Barca want him, it's that Barca absolutely refuse to pay what he is worth. We're not letting him go for cheap because he wants to leave. That is simply idiotic.

Cesc won't ever start ahead of a fully fit Xavi in the Barca team anyway, he'll be going there to sit on the bench more often than not.

people keep saying this and it is a joke. fabregas is one of the very best players in the world and barca have been more than willing to adjust tactically in order to accommodate the talents of various players (and his role is very different than xavi's currently anyway).

What has Beckham ever had in his locker other than his long-range passing/crossing and direct FK's? I find Donovan to be a more complete footballer who is technically very good.
