Im a Hammers fan in MN, but was thinking about traveling to Chicago for the Man Utd game, but theres no footy fans here in the summer I can go with, and I dont want to take my girlfriend, she hates it. At least this one is on ESPN2 here.. going nuts without proper football.

I think with the new servers once a thread hits 20k posts you have to make a new one. Thats what happened with the GAF-HOP thread recently. Not sure though.

Why is New England playing Manchester?

Man United are on tour in the US for their Pre-Season. It's basically for marketing and training. Liverpool are in China, Malaysia and Thailand, Arsenal are in the Far East too. Chelsea and Real Madrid are also in the USA.

Because all those 50k+ in attendance paid money to watch New England play Manchester.
Google "capitalism" for more info.
Well I noticed there were more fans than the average....six....in the stands. That being said it isn't even close to being as full as a Patriots game.

This may come as a surprise to you but American football is slightly more popular than soccer in the New England area.
But over 50k attendance for a meaningless soccer game isn't so terrible.

It may come as a surprise to you, but you are a complete douchebag in multiple threads. Grow up.

I followed them when they launched in 1996 and figured I would give them a chance. I just don't find the sport very interesting. Over the years it has deluded in the area dramatically, but they keep talking about building a soccer only stadium up near the city more to generate more interest and European teams to stop buy.

Portugal is the most popular team around the area I'm from.

I know you were not blessed with much intelligence or apparently education, I am just trying to help you out, no need to be so hostile or for "foul language in the form of insults directed towards other forum members"....

Well then this is the perfect thread for you! Please tell us how uninteresting soccer is.

I apparently understand more than you do. Plus I don't frequent one of the most popular sports in the world and feel the need to brand certain people by their culture and talk down to them. Again you are a massive jerk and there is no real need for it.

How do you "apparently" understand more than I do?

What language do you guys speak in New England?

Now now gentleman. One of you doesn't really like the content of this thread. Perhaps something can be done about that. You know instead of wasting oxygen on thoughts, and energy depressing keys etc.

You insult my intelligence and where I'm from on the basis of coming into a thread and asking questions about a local game.

You proceed to highlight information you clearly know nothing about and just proceed to insult further.

You are a jerk. That is all completely uncalled for.

I don't need to insult your intelligence, you're doing a great job of that by yourself, I just pointed it out.

What information did i highlight that I "clearly know nothing about"?

The fact they have been trying to get the plan for a full soccer stadium outside of the city for several years now with that intention for years now.

I came in here curious in learning more with what was going on, that is hardly grounds of sitting back and insulting someone's intelligence.

Lindegaard impressing with his feet. Just needs to cut down an unnecessary pass or two and focus on keeping the pressure off his defenders. Fabio putting in some impressive runs. Berbatov and Rooney should've scored one each already. And Young is Young--looking to be a useful winger--but Nani needs to get on the ball more, as things tend to happen when he has it.

half time right now, united chances but good defending by new england. Young delivery consistant and pretty good. anderson passing seems to have improved.

The team's played well, maintained good possession, had a couple of chances on goal that they either goofed up(like the missed header from Rooney) or were stopped by the Revolution's keeper.

Ashley Young and Nani have been bossing on the wings. And Rooney's hair looks fucking stupid.

All that adds up to...a goalless draw at the break.

Is this the first year they have done this exhibition type setup? Is Manchester composed of their regular players?
A few big European teams do pre-season tours in the USA and the Manchester United team playing today is composed of regular players.

It's part of pre season training for United and similar games happen every year. It's essentially the full squad too as everyone is trying to get back to fitness.

Neat. This is the first time I've seen this. I had tickets a few years ago to two European squads playing at the Meadowlands in New York, I was in the area and just ended up walking by primarily.

Cheers. Gaf comes trumps as usual.

edit: Rumour: Manchester United are working on a deal for Flamengo's midfielder Adryan, 16. United had scouts in Mexico for the Under 17 World Cup who saw him score five goals in six games for Brazil.

These games usually are played at a low tempo and aren't that entertaining. Tournaments like the Champion's League, which starts in September, produce the high quality matches and are worth watching if you have a spare couple of hours.

Owen's still got it.
