Well until we get someone else in if Evra is out injured we've not many who can play LB apart from Fryers.

Evans has played there for NI in the past, and Rafael might be able to do that, but they're not natural LB's.

Are you guys sending him on loan or keeping him in the reserves?

It remains to be seen. The logic behind Pogba's move continues to elude me, seeing how crowded Juve's midfield already is. You've got the immovable Marchisio, Pirlo and Vidal in the starting eleven, with Asamoah, Isla, Marrone and Pepe right behind them. Sending him on loan seems to be the smart thing to do, yeah.

I think Ferguson might regret giving Rooney that greatly improved new deal. You create a new tier on the wage bill, when it comes to contract extensions everyone is going to want to be bumped up. Why isn't someone like Nani entitled to ask for £140k?

edit: Wasn't there are rumour that Rooney would be allowed to leave for a set amount if certain investment targets weren't met?

Not copying the link because of the source but look at the BBC's gossip column for tomorrow, particularly the first item. Couldn't laugh louder.
Just for laughs:
AC Milan are interested in signing Liverpool striker Andy Carroll. Pier Silvio Berlusconi, the son of Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi, has been acting as a transfer consultant for the Italian club and has identified Carroll as a potential signing.

We had to do it. You have to pay the going rate and the club CAN afford it really, it's just a case of it being ok-ed by the men in suits.

Had we sold Rooney, anybody we signed to replace him would have to have been of a similar calibre and players know that today, a wage of 150k-200k is the going rate.

I think we'll be okay with wages, we can't afford 200k+ wages but then nobody can really without some kind of outside investment.

Virgin Money kind of ruins an otherwise nice kit. But as always we get used with sponsors.
I still don't like Barcelona's.

that's more because it looks like complete shit, more than anything. That font the Qatar Foundation uses on their logo is some comic sans level of sheer hideousness.

I can't see United not signing a LB. Fabio has gone on loan so we only have Evra as a natural LB. It would be madness to go into a new season with just Evra. He's not very good anymore and we're absoltely fucked if he gets injured.Evans could play there if we were in a pinch but he isn't that good either.

Such a shame that the Glazers had to come along and fuck up United financially. To go from the richest club in the world to the one that's probably in the most debt. Someone hold me :(

According to BBC:

Manchester United has applied to list on the US stock market in a share sale that aimed at raising $100m (£64m).

I know nothing about this stuff, but isn't that a bit of a downgrade from what they wanted to raise in Singapore?

That figure is apparently a placeholder. It will rise or fall depending on the interest shown by investors.

Your tears taste so salty

I am pretty salty right now. We haven't signed anyone because we're poor and a bunch of Man United fans are crying about a debt that means absolutely nothing given their position in the world of football. :p

Would give my right arse cheek to be in Man United's shoes.

At LB or in general?

He was one of our best players last season, as for him at LB, he can do a job there. I still remember his first time starting for NI there, was against Spain and he was outstanding.

Going to get cracking on an AVB piece (which asks whether Spurs should've considered Rafa, predictably), see how far I get, then evaluate and finish tomorrow. Hopefully any glaring inaccuracies, or grand presumptions of lunacy, will be eradicated by a good nights sleep.

Poor compared to the London/Manchester clubs at least.
Money means nothing if it's wasted. I'd rather have Graham Carr tell me how to spend £20 than have Damien Comolli invest my pot of £300 million on jaffa cakes and lilt.

I seem to miss out on all the good shiton FootyGAF thanks to this evening shift I'm on.
Fill me in, lads.

But you know how to spend your money. That's a big plus.

That will only get you so far. Eventually clubs see that you're buying quality players on the cheap so they'll raise their prices.

FC Twente for example, are bitter about selling Tiote for peanuts so they're asking for silly prices on De Jong/Douglas.

Replace Lilt with 7up/Sprite and that would sound like a good deal.

AVB is buying everyone in time for you to spank us in our front yard.

Will Benitez ever return to management?

I thought he was once set on getting the Madrid job. Not sure if they will risk it now, or indeed if Rafa would want to follow Mourinho again. I'm sure any team in Spain would have him, but his wife and kids are firmly settled in the north west.

Mou's not leaving anytime soon, I think (unless that United job opens itself up and he manages to win the CL before then). and following Mou again? (especially at a club as trigger happy as Madrid) that's a poisoned chalice if I ever saw one. I hope Rafa gets back into management some time, but at this point, beggars can't be choosers... maybe he'll land a national team job sometime. It'd be good for him; knockout specialist, excellent tactician, don't have to worry about transfers, etc.

He worked under Del Bosque earlier in his career, becoming his assistant for a short spell when the pair were drafted into manage Real Madrid in the mid 90s. I hypothesised the other night that the Spain job might be a likely, and at least sensible destination for him next. Del Bosque has won what he can with Spain, perhaps it's time for him to pass the mantle on, and who better than a former protege, a fellow Spaniard, a manager renown for his expertise in knockout competitions and criticised for his decisions in the transfer market.

I wouldn't envy the next person to take the Spain job though, so much pressure.

Yep, think he'd be great at international level. Not sure he'd be happy without the day to day dealings club football offers, but it's better than being a bit part pundit.

It's funny that a man who won a CL and two league titles in Spain without being the Barça or Real manager, is still unemployed. Surprised that he didn't go for the Spurs job.

And for all the shit Benitez gets about his transfers, he bought Xabi Alonso for like 9m, Torres for 22m, Agger and Skrtel for peanuts, etc. He made a few blunders but the ones he got right he got very right.

I am stoked that AVB has another chance in the pl with a champions league ambition club and very good management. I hated how Chelsea treated him, much like how they shafted ancelotti, so it's great that he gets another crack at it. I wish him all the best in the coming season as long as spurs don't finish above us. Lol.

They're making some killer signings. Be afraid. Be very afraid. :p

They should try for lloris. seems a decent keeper.

Going to pretend I didn't see the edit! We've been linked with him for a while. Lyon seem to want a lot though. He said this back in May:

"I am not closing the door to anyone. Lyon have continuity and they are in the Champions League as well [as Milan]. And Tottenham, they have a great project for the future with a very successful manager [Redknapp (lol)]. I will go where I have the feeling I can improve best until the highest level."

That he didn't go for the Spurs job? I don't think it was his choice. And I doubt Levy likes him personally after what happened with Keane.
