So according to various media outlets, Chelsea are set to sign Oscar from Internacional for £25 mil. Man, Chelsea are getting stronger and stronger with each signing. They are going to be tough to beat this season.

Their attack is much improved but they still have the same problems in midfield and defence. Ramires is their only top quality CM and Terry is as slow as evolution.

Chelsea are still very vulnerabe imo.

Yeah they'll have a potent attack but not much else.

Like Arsenal, but better.

I hope we don't get rid of Carroll. Does Tony Evans' "it's a mistake" mean Tony B was wrong about us wanting to sell Carroll, or us selling him would be a mistake? Got a feeling it's the second one, not good news if true.

Evans clarified to say it'd be a mistake to sell a growing plsyer.

eh, their central midfield is decent (if not quite up to the standard of everything else). I like Meiereles a bit more than most, I guess, if only because he strikes me as a very similar player to Moutinho. all around midfielder, can link up a bit, tackle, pass, shoot, run around a bit but doesn't excel at any of them. Meireles, Mikel, Ramires is a pretty solid trio of holding/linking midfielders. and Lampard completely reinvented himself in a great way this past season as a holding-type midfielder, without compromising his goal threat, so I think, for now, they've got that covered. It's older than ever, but... Roman will rebuild that part of the spine next summer I think.

as for the defense, Ashley Cole's still around and maybe David Luiz will compensate for Terry's complete lack of pace.
assuming JT is still around at the club after his trial
. It's not a particularly well balanced side (I take it Mata and Marin are going to be benched?) but it should be more than enough to win the league.

Now all they need is a manager!

Do we think Spurs needs another striker? Adebayor is a very good addition but he can't do it all by himself.

I don't think Defoe will start regularly either.

I take it Mata and Marin are going to be benched?

Di Matteo should be sacked if he regularly benches Mata.

He's their best attacking player.

So Adebayor isn't going back to City? Hmm that's interessting. Yeah I think as well that it will go between City and United but I hope Chelsea and Arsenal can keep track of the Manchester clubs as long as possible.

I'd like Falcao to come to the premier league, and he'd probably be willing to team up with AVB again for another go at the Europa League but doubt Levy would spend that kind of money after landing Adebayor. but then again, if Adebayor comes on a free, who knows what kind of money is left in the budget...

You kids and your top 5s.

In my day we had top 10s and all 10 were Anna Kournikova.

Sorry if you got the wrong impression. But I am 25 years old. And that little top 3 has nothing to do with my recular top 5s and top 10s. Its just something I spontanousely came up with for you guys to watch.

I like where this is going. I hate to see Falcao play Europa League for a third season in a row ... lol Falcao is way too good for the Europa League but Atletico doesnt play CL next season :(

What do you guys think about Montpellier? Do you think they will play well in the CL next season despite of the fact they sold Giroud to Arsenal?

Wasn't Giroud basically the RvP for Montpellier? If so, then not so hot, though I do like them...solely cause of Remi Gaillard though...

Hope we do go for Borini, would be a fantastic signing.

At the same time, not at all impressed with The Times saying we are looking to offload Carroll. I'm hoping it's just twisting Brendan's words from the interview today, but it's bad policy to bin off a player who is improving and putting in the effort, especially since we'll almost certainly make a loss on him.

I really don't know about Carroll. Sure, he's trying his best to improve, and he's young, but I think he was doomed at the club ever since we offered such an astronomical fee. As long as he remains here he'll be under pressure to hit a level even close to that fee, something he just can't do. It's all well and good saying that we don't care how much we pay because the most important thing is that we got Andy to the club, because the price tag does affect him when he's arrived.

I understand the thought that Andy's a good plan B to have when teams park the bus, but is that enough? Can we really legitimise having £35 million hanging around on the bench to batter teams down? I'm not sure we can, and I'm not sure he would fit into a Rodgers system, and I think that's abundantly clear in the way Rodgers has talked about him today. He knows it, we know it, and I don't really think it's fair to say to such a player that he should sit around on the bench because he's so erroneous in how he plays.

Let him go to a team who value his attributes, let him flourish there. If Rodgers is a success at the club in importing his philosophies then Carroll won't be deemed even close to a success in my opinion. The two exist in diametric opposition; I wouldn't even be surprised if Rodgers wanted us to prioritise low crosses.

What about Ade's wages?

I think the idea is that City is so desperate to get Adebayor off his wages (30m for RVP plz) that they'll let him go for free and Spurs will use what would have been the transfer fee as some kind of signing on bonus so they won't completely fuck over their wage structure to compensate for his fucking ridiculous 170k/week wage.

The Assassin may miss the start of the season due to his injury. He has flown to Munich to see a specialist. Surgery may be required.

City to buy a DM.

Liverpool listed Clint Dempsey as an #LFC player on their website but had it taken down quickly - https://t.co/NwFYqa9P.

WTF!!!

Looks easy to fake, and I hope it is. Buying players after a single good season is what got us into this mess with Adam, Downing and Carroll. I wouldn't be surprised if FSG pushed this one through as well because he's probably the USAs best player alongside Donovan, so it's great for marketing.

To return to the Carroll debate, is there anyone here who wouldn't accept a straight swap, Carroll for Sturridge?

I would doubt the validity of the website rumour. But I don't think Clinton has had just the one good season, he got 17 this season but he was always Fulham's top scorer every season before that.
Would probably swap Carroll for Sturridge.

Fair enough, have to be honest in saying I can't judge Dempsey that much as I've never been a huge admirer because of his attitude, I always see him having pops at players and his strop at Bellamy this season was the straw that broke the camels back. I just don't like the guy, so it obviously affects how I see him as a footballer. I'd change my tune if he reproduced his Fulham exploits at Anfield though.

Has this been mentioned?

More importantly Tony Barrett from The Times strongly believes it. There's an article up on The Times which you can read if you go to RAWK and scroll back a few pages in the general transfer thread. Doesn't sound good for him.

Tony Evans, the editor of The Times football section believes getting rid of him would be a mistake, but I don't, quite honestly. United should buy him, you guys love crossing the ball.

Just seen the Dempsey rap, dear lord.

Exactly. If I saw Suarez on another team I'd hate him, as I do Cabaye, Dempsey etc.

If Dempsey can be half as prolific for us as he was for Fulham last season then I'll love him. He's got great technique, and that's a huge plus for the way we're looking to play. Tall, imposing, athletic, good header of the ball, finds the corners, good movement, good anticipation.

Yep, I'm onboard. Borini and Ramirez to flank Suarez, Dempsey to play just behind at the head of a midfield three. Erection mode activated.

A swap with Carroll leaving and Sturridge coming in would be a Brucey bonus.

We need to start selling players though, the squads going to look awfully bloated. Surely a newly promoted club would bite our hands off for Adam?

Carroll on loan would be a good move for all parties involved, I think.

I also think Dempsey is pretty overrated (if only because he was underrated for so long). He scores loads of goals, sure, but most of them are against pretty low level opposition iirc and a large part of it is because he shoots so much. In a mid level team where there are no better options (Fulham, USNMT), that's fine, but he wouldn't cut it any higher because he's a finisher more than a provider. (Case in point, apparently Dempsey and Donovan have never assisted a goal to each other for the USNMT; shades of Henry/Zidane) He's basically Cristiano Ronaldo minus the pace, the dribbling ability, the killer long range shot, the inside goal threat, or the aerial ability. which isn't to say he's a bad player, just not one with the right skillset or mentality to succeed at a big-ish club I think.

The Star are reporting Baines to United for £16m. £12m up front and a further £4m on performance based clauses.

My muppet senses would be tingling if it was a better publication than the Star.

Liverpool score no goals against low level opposition despite shooting so much.

Damn it. I was hoping that Arsenal would be the ones making this transfer.
