Former Halo developer criticizes 343 Industries and warns other professionals to avoid the studio 'They are cancer now'

I read his rant. it seems he is ready to go in full detail with Jason.... cool.

It's clear that this PR stunt from MS (rename the studio, switch to UE.. ) didn't create this blind wave of positivity and hype...No one trust Xbox anymore.

I don't understand why when a woman says there's abuse everyone says she is lying Where's the proof? But when this will say something no one doubt about him

Youll find that doesn't really happen on GAF, or at least we have posters that use common sense. Sometimes.

GAF has a lot of pointless topics, but my favorites are "Pissed off former employee nobody ever heard of said this and that".
It’s my favorite too, because I get to bust out the popcorn and see the same posters suddenly defending the exact thing they were trashing just a week ago.

Will Waltz, a former developer who worked as an animator on the Halo franchise for 13 years, published a rather controversial comment a few days ago involving 343 Industries, or better known now as Halo Studios.

Through LinkedIn, the former Halo developer criticized 343 Industries and warned other professionals to avoid the studio. He even claims that the studio's leadership is a “cancer”.

I mean just look at the entire history of the studio and it would tell you this.

If Halo 5 Horde didn’t exist, and if they didn’t fix MCC to coincide with the PC release years later, this studio would have zero wins under their belt.

Actually cancer is by definition malignant. Only tumors can be benign or malignant. A better world in your reply would be "metastatic" as metastatic cancer means the cancer has spread and the prognosis is looking unfavorable.
Dang. You're totally right.

Uh...I mean, that's just how dumb 343 management is that they'd say "malignant".

I think thats the only logical conclusion... even the shareholders are supporting the DEI/WOKE craziness... maybe the backend dollars make everything worth it and the losses are not that great. Who knows

Nadella has been good for the stock price. That's why shareholders love MSFT.

But MSFT corporate practices have sapped all the creative out of Xbox.

Bonnie, Frankie, Kiki and Chris Lee were at the helm of everything that went wrong with Halo from the inception of the studio, while Pierre was hired at 343i in 2018 to help fix Halo MCC (and he resoundlingly did it), and Unreal 4 was known to not being able to handle open worlds well. Pierre was only called for Halo Infinite after its delay due to the awful showcase in 2020 and became the studio head in late 2022.

How would Hintze have the highest power during Halo Infinite development when not only it was being developed since years prior to his entry to the studio, but he only got hired when the game was about/after being announced at E3 2018? How he would have any major changing power during 2018-2020 when they only called him to serve as a Infinite's producer during the final 18 months prior to its relase?

343 is poison, I remember even glassdoor reviews saying similar things a few years ago. cope away though....
I dont see how glassdoor reviews from years ago are that relevant today when most of the personnel are different. If anything this guy making accusations would have been part of that shitty culture reported on glass door.

If you’re a top performing industry animator why did you stay at a company for 13 years when you hated it?
He stated the pay was nice. And given how hard it is to find a steady job in AAA, no doubt that was enough of a motivating factor to stick around far longer than he wanted to.

I wish people would stop with this knee-jerk first reaction to just always automatically blame the victim. Listen to what he’s saying. He doesn’t gain anything from saying this, it’s not like it’s anonymous. He could’ve just left quietly and stayed silent. He wants things to change, so that others don’t have to go through what he went through.

I have no doubts that modern hires most likely are done so for reasons other than their capabilities of delivering a product. Who are then put in positions of leadership and given charge of aspects they aren't remotely qualified to do so.

That being said, ex employee... vocal on social media... I mean this very situation is going on with John Garvin and Bend.
