SoT needed 4 months to get 4M sales. That's poor reception, imo.

Doom also will likely sell 1-2M copies on PS5. It's more like an AA game.
Most of Xbox' games won't have much pull.

Normally agree with you, but not sure I agree here.

I think Doom will easily clear 2 million on PS5 and a lot of Xbox games are going to have success there.

That being said, it's a packed year even without GTA6 and already coming off from Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds and I think it would be silly to assume that every game coming out this year has already been announced. Wouldn't be surprised if we got a shadow drop of God of War Greek Saga remastered in March or a release shortly thereafter. Obviously, anything from October on is the danger zone for publishers.

TBD
Death Stranding 2
Ghost of Yotei
Age of Empire 2

March
MLB The Show 25
WWE 2K25
The First Berserker
Assassin's Creed Shadows

April
Expedition 33
Days Gone Remastered
Forza Horizon 5
Age of Mythology

May
Capcom Fighting Collection 2
Doom Dark Ages
Elden Ring Nightreign
Lost Soul Aside
Onimusha 2 Remaster

August
Metal Gear Solid Delta
Shinobi

September
Hell is Us

Personally throw in Lunar and Suikoden and this year is kind of nuts. So yeah, there's a lot of competition among all publishers.

They're finally getting a good horizon game.
The first 2 Horizon games from Sony has probably already outsold the whole Horizon franchise from Microsoft by now.

And Im making the reference to Nintendo! Why its always Sony that has to make all types of games and cover all genres while Nintendo keeps making low budget kiddy games and no one bats an eye?

Because most of them are high quality and Nintendo are making mint from them.

Since having a daughter I’ve gained a new appreciation for Nintendo games.

We’ve not had a new big franchise since Splatoon so I’d like to see something new. But other than that, crack on Nintendo.

You could be right about 2M sales, but that's why I said 1-2M.

With a quick google search, Doom Eternal had sold an estimated 7.5M copies over it's first 9 months, spread across XBO, PC, PS4 and Stadia. (Though this estimate was based on $450M revenue).

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
PS players do love racing games of course, game's gonna sell a ton

People keep underestimating Days Gone as a "lesser TLoU clone" but look it's there in the top ten preorder list, absolutely deserves more sales
Forget FH5 on PS5...one of the most overlooked or dismissed things is how well the Days Gone Remaster pre order is doing.

Because nintendos whole MO from the start of time was about kiddy games. It's their thing.

Sony came out targeting late teens to 35 year olds with the adult console. Of course it's expected that they make more adult orientated games while nintendo continue their legacy of accessible games for all ages.

Well, that's normal, tons of games are sold on PS5 every month, 96 million last quarter, for MS-XBOX soon PS5 and NS2 will be their reference platform above their own console because that's where they will get most of their sales.

But it's free money for MS too?

If sales makes 50 million dollars

MS get 35 mil
Sony 15 mil

Unless my maths sucks that's more a win for Xbox.

They could lower prices if they wished to gain market share (they won't as it's all about shorter term revenue for them)
Got to save face somehow, I guess. This isn't some grand win for MS. It's them basically admitting defeat. They lost. Game over. They're the new Sega. That's not something to be proud of.

And no, it's not free money for MS. They have to recoup the costs of developing the game, the cost of keeping the multiplayer going, any losses they are still taking on their own HW, and the cost of PS5 dev kits. It is free money for Sony. And they get the satisfaction of knowing they won.

Microsoft bigger win will come if they release a new Xbox that's sold for profit while selling games on PlayStation & Switch to fund the development for the games that also play on this high-end console.
A high end console that they make profit on for a diminishing base? I'm having a hard time seeing how MS can pull that off. But hey I'd love to be surprised with what they have in store.

Selling their games on other devices is the key, which means the pressure of building a large user-base is no longer on them .

Oh yeah, very much so which leads me to think they'll just try to offramp those core users onto PC so they can just exit the hardware business in general. My guess is their next system is somewhere in the middle being a PC/console hybrid to make the transition easier.

it's not that great but it's a decent entry in the series. hoping FH6 is more of an evolution of the series instead of just another icon fest in a different area.

Doom is “basically AA”

Does anyone really consider Doom an Xbox game? It's always been third-party. Microsoft owns publishing rights, but there is nothing new. Doom has and will never be Xbox exclusive. Same with Call of Duty or Minecraft.

Who cares who is publishing the games. They've always been PlayStation games and always will be. And the majority of those games' playberbase is PlayStation.

It's nothing like actual Xbox studio games like Halo, Forza and Gears.

Then they go to Steam so my guess is a console from Microsoft + other devices made by other manufacturers that will have a Xbox mode like the PCs with S Mode that you will have to take out of Xbox mode to do unofficial stuff like use Steam.

I'll preorder/buy it whenever reviews are out. Playground seem reliable from a polish/technical perspective but most of the porting work is presumably done by Panic Button. Then again, they've done way crazier porting jobs and seem very competent as well.

It's a good AAA car game and it's still technically cutting edge, it's normal that it gets very good sales. What else could be expected?

The ol' "they'll make PlayStation players pay" so they continue throwing away money for Xbox players.

It used to be, "Microsoft makes enough money, so they don't mind that Xbox bleeds money".

You're reading it through a console warriors eyes .

Devs need to see a return on their investment which was becoming a problem on Xbox so this is more about survival & getting out of direct competition with a different type of device.

If one part of your business is bleeding money, you don't just ignore it because another part makes up for it. You cut the bad portion and put more focus on the profitable part.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Means FH6 will likely come day-and-date.

And man, there are some bitter folks in here! Not surprised since their favorite platform has to ultimately admit MASSIVE defeat with moves like this, but still...
You took a swipe where none was needed because news like this infuriates you, yet someone else is the fanboy? YOU? Of all people.

They will always need a base console to build games around though so why exit the console business all together
