Forza Horizon 5 comes to PS5 this Spring

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Here’s hoping some of the Sony IPs come to Xbox now that Xbox is putting all theirs on PS.
Do some ppl truly not understand why MS is doing this? Its not a "show me yours, I'll show you mine" situation.

PS5 owners aren't buying enough games so they have to port to PC. Wouldn't surprised if they eventually go day and date since it worked so well with Helldivers.

98% of PS5 owners didn't buy the 2024 GOTY. Square now no longer interested in exclusivity deals. Sony showing no signs of stopping the ports to PC.

This thread exists because Microsoft also needs to access more customers.
Keep trying, you'll get there eventually.

Astro Bot was GOTY and wasn't played by 98% of PS5 owners. Trying to compare sales with a game that's primarily accessed via a sub service isn't the own you think it is.

It is when AstroBot has sold 1.5M as of October and Indy sold an estimated 200k. Astro cost far less to make

One is profitable yet other isn’t

Welp, it begins. This is an ACTUAL first party game that's been exclusive for 20 years on Xbox. Indiana Jones wasn't really shocking b/c we all know it was being made for PS5 before MS bought Bethesda. This however is actually a gravitational shift in policy for Xbox. This is the beginning of the end. Starfield, Gears and then Halo up next IMO.
Halo for sure, with the master chief collection being well handled on the Switch 2 seeing as the games are decades old....and Halo needs the reach, (pun intended) to revitalise the franchise......This was the same case with Metal Gear and Mass Effect, former Playstation and Xbox exclusives ...you saw Mass Effect 3 come out on Wii U...

I'm glad they did the Horizon series and not just Forza. Because Gran Turismo has me satisfied there. This arcadey take could fill the driveclub itch.

I'm kinda sad though because the only Xbox/PC game I want is an age of mythology 2 port but it's so niche they might not bother.

Forza horizon 5 will do big numbers on playstation.

Forza should do really big numbers in Europe, definitely a huge deal over there

I bought it on XBO but didn’t play much (mostly because I finished FH3 and FH4 just before it) but I’d gladly play the nextgen version on ps5 as I don’t have an XSX. If only they made this somehow possible without having to buy it again

You mean that sub service that's causing Xbox users to not buy games? One of the main reasons for the PS5 ports? MLB The Show won't be on Game Pass this year...several ppl say they wont play the game anymore....because its not on Game Pass. After playing the game for several years.

I guess Phils unsolicited charm offensive about Xbox not being dead to them over the last week or so makes sense now.

Trying to convince the saps he still cares as he knows this news really does put the knife in the consoles.

He doesn't have to convince anyone, his shills WANT to believe. They're all talking about future hardware now.

Guess Mr. Banana forget GT7 exists, already (likely) sold 14 million, and confused Forza's player counts with copies sold.

That aside, expected announcement and since there aren't a lot of arcade-ish open world racers on the market (not to mention, FH generally being around the upper end quality-wise of those), FH5 should do decently well on PS5 (and Switch 2), I think. Can see it doing at least as well as Sea of Thieves did, which did pretty good.

98% of PS5 owners didn't buy the 2024 GOTY.

I don't know why people use this metric.

Street Fighter 6 sold 4.4 million across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. 1.6 years
Silent Hill 2 sold 2 million copies on PC and PlayStation 5
Mortal Kombat 1 sold 5 million copies on PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox

You don't realize that most video games have a low attach rate.

they don't. the "vibration" you feel are the motors pushing against you.
the Dualsense triggers are comprised of a rubber membrane to measure how much they are depressed, and a motor that turns a gear which gives resistance to your trigger by moving a soft trigger-stop upwards.

Ok, so you have no idea what you're talking about.

Here are the parameters directly from the dualsense's API:

  • LeftTrigger=
  • RightTrigger=
  • VibrateTriggerIntensity= ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀(A value between 0-255 | VibrateTrigger Required to use this)
  • CustomTriggerValueLeftMode=⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀(CustomTriggerValue Required to use this)
  • CustomTriggerValueRightMode=⠀⠀⠀⠀(CustomTriggerValue Required to use this)
  • ForceLeftTrigger=
  • ForceRightTrigger=

And a not exhaustive list of presets (developers are also free to modify these along with being able to create their own):

  • Resistance
  • Bow
  • Galloping
  • SemiAutomaticGun
  • AutomaticGun
  • Machine
  • Choppy
  • VerySoft
  • Soft
  • Medium
  • Hard
  • VeryHard
  • Hardest
  • Rigid
  • VibrateTriggerPulse
  • VibrateTrigger

For example if you wish to customise "bow" :

  • When using Bow, there are 4 different values that goes into each parenthesis.
    • First: 0-8 Second: 0-8 Third: 0-8 Fourth: 0-8
    • Example: ForceLeftTrigger=(0)(0)(0)(0) or ForceRightTrigger=(0)(0)(0)(0)

For further customisation:

CustomTriggerValueLeftMode=

CustomTriggerValueRightMode=

  • OFF
  • Rigid
  • Rigid A
  • Rigid B
  • Rigid AB
  • Pulse
  • Pulse A
  • Pulse B
  • Pulse AB
  • VibrateResistance
  • VibrateResistance A
  • VibrateResistance B
  • VibrateResistance AB
  • Vibrate Pulse
  • Vibrate Pulse A
  • Vibrate Pulse B
  • Vibrate Pulse AB

The above is all for the windows API. Below is the API for apple devices:

func setModeFeedbackWithStartPosition(Float, resistiveStrength: Float)
Sets the mode to provide feedback when the user depresses the trigger at the start position or at a greater value.

struct PositionalResistiveStrengths
The resistive strengths for multiple positions on a trigger.

func setModeFeedback(resistiveStrengths: GCDualSenseAdaptiveTrigger.PositionalResistiveStrengths)
Sets the mode to provide feedback with the specified strengths for each possible trigger position.

func setModeWeaponWithStartPosition(Float, endPosition: Float, resistiveStrength: Float)
Sets the mode to provide feedback when the user depresses the trigger between the start and the end positions.

func setModeVibrationWithStartPosition(Float, amplitude: Float, frequency: Float)
Sets the mode to vibrate when the user depresses the trigger at the start position or at a greater value.

func setModeVibration(amplitudes: GCDualSenseAdaptiveTrigger.PositionalAmplitudes, frequency: Float)
Sets the mode to vibrate with the specified amplitudes for each possible trigger position.

struct PositionalAmplitudes
The amplitudes for multiple positions on a trigger.

func setModeSlopeFeedback(startPosition: Float, endPosition: Float, startStrength: Float, endStrength: Float)
Sets the mode to provide feedback when the user tilts the trigger between the start and the end positions.

Wow they really have given up on hardware. can't say I am bothered as it's a great game, if gamepass came to PS that would just settle my living room office combo and I will never need an xbox again.

I remember rumors years ago about Sony getting Evolution to make an open world racing game to respond to Forza Horizon. Now they don't even need to do that because Microsoft will just do it for them.

The red line has been crossed now and with rumors swirling of Halo next, it's looking like it's over for 'Xbox' as we know it. People are waking up to the fact that PS5 is an Xbox now and so there's little point buying a Series console. This is reflected in the sales numbers this year.

But it's not only over as a devices brand - what follows from the collapse of console sales is a potential implosion of Game Pass too. 5 out of 6 Game Pass subscribers play via console. If console sales dry up, GP will not grow. If Xbox, as a device, bleeds users, then GP will likely even shrink. Microsoft are already missing their pie in the sky 2030 subscriber target by a long shot.

I believe that unless Sony allow a form of Game Pass onto PS5, similarly to EA Play or Ubislop+, it will not survive the next generation. Xbox will be massively downscaled to just being the biggest third party company - and yet, with COD and the massive PC, Switch and PlayStation user base combined to sell to, I bet they still make a shitload of money, just differently.

No one said they showed any signs of quitting PC ports, but your claim that PS5 fans don’t buy games is bogus. Astrobot is one game and no game sells to nearly all of a console’s fan base.

And Microsoft needs PlayStation. That’s why this thread exists.

I think relatively similar is a very accurate statement.
The SIE Spider-Man series is still like 15M units behind the God of War series.

Miles Morales is probably 10+ million if not 15 at this point. That's probably enough to cancel out GW1-3 outside of the remaster and Ascension. I don't think it's 15 million units behind.

If this game had quad-bikes in it as well, then it was as close to a Motostorm Pacific Rift you were likely to ever get..maybe they'll introduce it in, Forza Horizon 6 in the next gen platforms..

Keep pointing out facts?

Sales is a meaningless comparison when one is on a paid sub service and the other isn't.

that's still not actually a vibration motor. it's the gears simulating a vibration. but while doing so it will press against your trigger, that's how it "vibrates"

the entire trigger is a spring for tension, a gear that is attached to a motor, a plastic trigger stop that gets moved by the gear to give resistance, a plastic tab that detects/keeps track of where the trigger stop is, and a rubberdome to measure your input.

there's nothing else inside the trigger assembly of a Dualsense.
and inside the actual shell of the trigger there's nothing but structural plastic, it's entirely empty.

the "vibration" is literally just the trigger stop rattling against the trigger with low pressure. there is no vibration motor.
Xbox controllers literally have a vibration motor inside the trigger shell. these are small and give subtle feedback in Forza for when you lose traction while accelerating or braking.

GOW was >66M by 11/23, Spider-Man was >50M by 2/24. Miles Morales also sold 14.4M units by 6/23.
Obviously the gap is smaller these days, but not enough for Spider-Man to catch God of War here.

I feel like you both are right and just quibbling over semantics. If it feels like it's vibrating and it feels good on the bum hole, does it matter if it's a gear or a motor?

it matters in this case as a plastic tab pressing against you will make your inputs less precise than a subtle rumble from a small vibration motor.

which is why I am wondering how well the game will play on a DualSense if they don't properly adapt this.
the impulse trigger feedback in Forza is extremely important IMO to the feel of the game.

He's not taking this news well, so it's the usual pivot, then bullshit post to detract from the discussion.
Almost every Microsoft game is gonna end up on PS5. Just like almost every PS5 game is gonna end up on PC. Idc because I can play both on PC. The news doesn't impact me at all. I was responding to someone who thought Sony should stop releasing games on PC when the reason they do it has nothing to do with xbox.

lold @ you going back and spamming triggered emoji on all of my posts. You ok man?

Ah so you're continuing to just make things up based on feelings instead of acknowledging the facts.

You should really learn how to gracefully take the L and stop embarrassing yourself. Hear it yourself from one of the directors at Insomniac:

There's nothing semantic about it unfortunately. There is both a vibration motor along with a resistance motor attached to the trigger.

So your point is subtlety. Got it.

It just works differently. They need to modify their configuration a bit to mimic how it's done in GT7. A combination of vibration on trigger + controller haptics + dual sense audio. It works wonders in GT7. I literally can't race without all of them working in unison anymore. There are a couple of top racers in the world who can hit those ridiculous times on dualsense without needing a steering wheel.

You're mad, we get it. So the emoji is fitting.

You said some bullshit and got called on it. Of course you'll double down because you don't want to look stupid. "98% of PS5 owners didn't buy the the 2024 GOTY". Show me one console that had a GOTY sell to nearly all of its playerbase.

*Forza Horizon. Forza Motorsport is a big mess and a big failure in every regard. The series might as well be dead after the devs announced this week to slow down development. It's full of bugs and empty promises and stands no chance against Gran Turismo.

Forza Horizon is a big hit and a good game and has lots of sales potential wherever.

My understanding is that the resistance motor simulates the rumbling as well. At least that's what I recall from the controller teardown videos. I don't recall 2 separate motors. So you get 2 software functions (like in the API calls you showed), but one hardware motor.

But I might be wrong. Will look this up

What would I be mad about? Moving to PC this gen has paid off for me.

There's a wide range between 2% and "nearly all".

What if I told you, one day you'd be playing Sonic the Hedgehog on your Nintendo console?

This has come up recently.

I think Halo on PlayStation is a bigger deal than Sonic on Nintendo.

By the time Sonic hit Nintendo (and PlayStation) Nintendo had already been diminished in the console space. It wasn't even Nintendo who bested Sega it was Sony, but the Sega Sony rivalry was never anywhere close to as heated as Nintendo vs Sega.

Sony and Microsoft have been in competition with each other for over 20 years and they're essentially the last two standing in the premium console market.

I think the only thing that would top Halo on PlayStation would be Mario on PlayStation with Pokemon rounded out 3rd, largely due to the nature of how Sony got into the business.

I wonder what this means for the Forza series and turn 10 specifically

Is that studio going to get shut down or refolded into a horizon studio while playground works on fable?

With them going third party I don’t see Forza being able to compete well with GT other than horizon which does something different
