Also, the downforce potential is still completely arbitrary, although due to the PI rerating and the fact that cars get pushed to the R classes now it's not the defining fault of the different classes. It was really only a problem in F2 with U class cars.

Anyone try the 1969 Z?

In FM2 You can put race tires, full weight reduction(the car is very light to begin with), and swap the engine to the RB26(yeah it'll be AWD) and youd end up with a car that was around 2200-2400(dont remember the exact number)pounds and 345HP right at or near the limit for A class. Handles great but lacking on tracks with the long straights.

Edit: :lol :lol :lol :lol

The FXX is even more of a beast than the Veyron. I never want to get out of it. :|

The only problem is nearly every R3 race lasts for 12-15 minutes. Absurd. I just spent an hour playing and did four races.

Yeah the races in career mode are way too long. I started with season play and felt that the 3 races it offered me were not to my liking. Did all the short championships in a row from the event list. Later I discovered that T10 has tied most of the achievements to season play, so I had to start playing that again. Only now I had no short championships left so its just a long race after another long race.

Season play just feels unfinished. Why can't it be a race per week all the time. I did some world tour which was 6? 10-15 minute races. Couldn't you split it like "2 world tour races, 1 WC race, 2 WT races, WC race" and so on. Even F1 teams can't afford to ship their stuff from one circuit to the next in a week, but in season play its no problem to have 6 races in 2 weeks.

I gave up with season play during season 5. I don't want to give T10 the chance to mention that players clearly loved season play, when the reality is that someof us were just hunting for achievements. Achievents from season play should've stopped at season 1 or 2.

I love the game, it is a huge improvement over Forza2 in almost every respect (more multiplayer races though please).

My biggest beef is that there are too many cars, or better described I want a career mode that is more like an RPG. I have a few cars that I REALLY really like. I want to get really good at driving them but it seems like the game career mode suggests that I should abandon the cars I've grown to love and understand and try another car. Now that is okay and I can understand why some people like that but I want a game where my vehicle is sort of like my toon in an RPG game. Where I upgrade it when it makes sense to do so, when I have the money or when I earn something in-game that enables me to use the changes.
I've become attached to a few cars in my collection and I hate having to drive other races with cars I don't give a shit about or have no inclination to learn how to drive well. Typically I just mow through those type events/races so I can get back to the cars I do like racing.

I hope someone comes up with a racing game with this sort of concept.

Seasons need to be trimmed down. I'm on the 4th season. I don't even mind having to do the long races but it's the mandatory races in between each race weekend that really add up.

The season is already 9 races long but in between I have to do 4-5 race long events.... come on.

indeed, the career mode feels impersonal

That's something the Forza series always had problems with. And to be honest: Season Play doesn't change a thing. Other racers still offer better single player modes.

It can be overwhelming...I abandoned the season career mode, for the plain/full career event list, where I can visually hop around and pick and choose events based on the car I'm enjoying at the moment, upgrade it, grow with it—move at my own pace.

I got turned off by the feeling that I was being swept along, and needing to upgrade on the fly, cars I hadn't even had time to gain some familiarity with, etc.

For me, that's been the most comfortable way to progress...and once I have a nice stable of cars that I like to drive in most of the classes from that career progression, I'll go online and get my arse kicked. :D

Also trying to balance that with painting/adding to my storefront to make some $ on the side. Hardest thing I've encountered is when I turn on the game, trying to decide what to do first!

Season play in Forza 3 is exponentially better than Forza 2's career mode.

It's tailored to your current car, the cars you have in your garage, and the tracks that you've played. Career mode in Forza 2 was just a giant list of stuff to do.

Other than the weekend championships you should be able to stick with a particular car for a long, long time and still have events. My impression of season mode is that it's really flexible and lets you stick with a car, or suggests something new. Other than weekend events, I feel like I can go into my garage, choose what car I feel like using and have plenty of events in season mode ready to play.

Driving a muscle car in forza is still pretty much the best expirience a racing game can offer. Changing to fifth at 300km/h is really something. Too bad T10 has "gimped" muscle cars in F3. By that I mean how they ruined new york with chicanes(and those genesis ads are really tacky), almost all the new tracks are too slow and with AWD conversion availible on cars with ~400kW so muscle cars don't have that much of an advantage on the straights.

Yeah, that makes sense. I just felt a bit confined and "swept along". Maybe I didn't give it enough time.

Having said that, I do enjoy just going by the event list, tinkering, tuning and painting along the way...buying new cars as needed or when I'm ready to jump into something new.

Yeah, but I've only seen the new version in online lobbies, but I'm guessing its random.

So these rocket scientists do a planned server update at 7pm EST, for up to an hour.

No online racing, storefront, auction house - nothing.

Turn 10 - surprising yet again.

They must be lying and the server went down? Surely no developer in their right mind would purposely take down a server for a minor update, days after release during prime gaming hours.
Can't believe there are people bitching about Matchmaking.

Whenever I played Forza 2 online, I'd be lucky to get a single race, because I'd spend 20 minutes watching two guys go round Nurburgring twice, then as soon as they finished racing they'd kick me. :lol

Matchmaking is a much better experience.

It's always prime gaming hours somewhere. They have to do it at some time, so more than likely they chose a time that's convenient for them.

Yeah, I guess so. Still makes more sense to serve 80% of your consumer base, if not more, by doing it while they're asleep.

Yeah, they should inconvenience thousands of gamers so they can do it at their convenience - makes a ton of sense.

They could be adding new matchmaking playlists? Who knows.

Actually in the thread I linked, T10 rep says its just to improve stability.

Finally got to level 50, near the end of season 5, but it still feels like there's so much left to do-- 81% of the career to be precise. :D

A few things I've learned along the way:

  • Rewind, while initially touted as a way to undo mistakes or learn new corners, is in fact best used for repeatedly teaching M. Rossi how to fly. I hate that fucking guy.

  • If New York never shows up again in another Forza game, I will be the happiest person in the world. The chicanes help, though.

  • Give a Veyron 1,200 hp, take out a few hundred pounds, and you're not left with a car, but an obscenely excessive, all-conquering, 165-mph-quarter-mile-trapping case study of absolute power corrupting absolutely.

  • Any racing game from here on out that doesn't include a homespace/car porn mode will be a miserable failure. It's one of my favorite aspects of FM3, though more environments would have been welcome.
One gripe I do have involves the lack of functioning displays in some of the race cars, especially the ones you are gifted. It's a real problem when you're trying to drive with a minimal HUD and even more perplexing considering certain variants of the same cars have displays that work just fine. I'm wondering if this is something Turn 10 could possibly patch. It seems like a sizeable oversight considering how much was made of the fact that the game had 400 fully-functioning cockpits.

Overall, though, it's been absolutely fantastic and more enjoyable overall than FM2 was. I'm still suffering from lack of sleep thanks to this game, but I just can't help myself.

I love FM3 thus far. My problem is getting side-tracked from career mode. :)

Their treatment of AWD cars is borked though. I like Audi's/Lambo's as much as the next guy, but...Turn10 needs to increase AWD cars PI; or they need to give them a greater weight penalty IMO.

Something funky happens to the "rewind" during endurance events. Played Nurburgring endurance and on about the second last lap I made a mistake (yes, it happens, Turn 10 wasn't lying :lol ) so ended up using Rewind. But instead of the game rewinding, the FM logo load screen popped up for a split second, then when the game returned, I was set back the 5 seconds. I'm guessing because the game has to store of the info into the memory, a long race (like endurance nurburgring) is too much keep in the memory. Anyways, the damn load screen gave me a nice scare. Thought the game reset on me. :lol

The rewind thing has a lot of glitches to it. I've done one endurance event so far and the same thing was happening to me except one time there was no option to rewind at all. :lol Atleast it wasn't one of those moments where you feel like if you're gonna rewind anyway, might as well plow full speed into the wall... that would of put an end to about a half hour of racing.

So I finally got my hands on the C6R and I guess I forgot all about how easy it was to spin the tires with that same car in Forza 2. Feels like the training wheels are finally off in this game. I wonder how long it will take me to adjust and take the restrictors off the engine.

I've got to say, the late night race crowd has been fantastic. I can't say I'm winning consistantly, but I am finding a lot of nice, clean racers, and my Subaru 2.5RS is competitive on the tighter tracks.

Just got/upgraded a Porsche 959 to max A-class. Holy crap is it a handful. :lol

Carfule how you upgrade that one. She's one of the most impressive street machine of her stock, but she doesn't take to tampering well. I don't have mine yet, but if I recall correctly, you'll want to soften up the rear springs a bit...well, softer than you might normally tune.

Waiting on Zune, VIP, and Pre-Order cars...but I'm sure there's TONS to sift through...

Also, the Unicorn cars are so ridiculous, all I really want is the Camaro SS, they end up going for 6 million...

I dont know, it just doesnt work right for me, so whatever they want to do they should do it!

yesterday I tried racing A class, I am champion 26, so I was matched in a room with players of level >20. "great!" was my first impression. "this thing works!"
I wait 'till they finish their race, then the track changes to ..lemans. "shit! dont have an A class for those straights, my audi TT is for turning"
flick through my availale cars, I take something not so tuned but with better speed, just before the game starts.
then I do good, leading the race and making my distance with the 2nd bigger all the time,
then at some point the game starts to skip like 59 frames out of 60 for about a minute.

I do my best to stay on track (luckily mainly straights on that track at that time, but still incredibly difficult), then as I have a feeling that I should get an achievement for what I pulled off, the info screen after the race says I finished ...third?????
I couldnt even see the 2nd behind me..

ok, enough of matchmaking I said, and jumped to a friendly race.
after the first couple of minutes, I could see the alfa 8c of the host hovering about 2m above tarmac level. we could race properly -if you can say that- no frame skipping and the like, but this hovering thing... :lol
never had that in Forza2 with local online games. never!

I dont know.. I believe some things need fixing..

Not sure what you mean by "80%" above, but it makes sense to do it while Europeans are asleep.

Had some great Online races yesterday, most of the all clean racers. Had a couple of idiots bringing veyrons on circuits with a lot of corners, me and my buddy could always predict on every one of them where they would fly of the track.
Most awesome moment was on silverstone. I was third from the start with 2 guys on my tail, last lap,i mis my brake point in the corner after the long straight, they both overtake me, so i thought im fucked. When i enter the second chicane, i see them crsh into each other at full speed, both cars flew 10 feet trough the air, third place redeemed :D

I played my first multiplayer game last night. It put me in a game with people clearly far faster than I was.
One of the races was Laguna Seca, several of the people racing were getting low 1:29s in A class.

Rather brutal introduction :lol

1:25 is roughly the record on that track in F3 A class right now, rather nuts.

Grip is very important on that track, try and get a real sticky car and just fly around corners.
