I'll admit that I'm basically just a furry for the porn. And the reason for that is because of shit like this. I think the furry community is getting worse over time, and I don't have much motivation to actually interact with other furries outside of this forum because of it.
I didn't want to say anything, but... well, the big problem I have with the furry community isn't that it's mostly gay, it's the way a lot of furries act, namely, like terrible stereotypes. It is really creepy. I guess when you're straight you really notice it. Actually, no, straight isn't really the right word. I think "mature" is more accurate. I did not get into the furry stuff until I was around 20, so my sexuality was already established; a lot of other furs I see don't really seem gay or bi to me so much as they just want to fuck anything with a pulse (basically, being a teenager) and jump on the "furry = gay" bandwagon because they want to embrace that sexually permissive fetish-friendly furf** stereotype. I hardly even look at furry art anymore because it's so boring; all most artists care about is titillation, and you know what? If the furry thing was firmly established as being just about fetishes, that would be fine. But the weird combination of fetish and community is obnoxious. I don't really know what furry even means.
Here's an example of what I'm talking about. Warning, this is some serious furry drama shit:
I used to know some furries on Steam; they played on the same TF2 servers I did. These two guys were in a "relationship" over the internet, and both were probably like 16 when this started, and they basically made that the focus of every TF2 game they were both in. It was obnoxious, and honestly, kind of creepy. I don't really think those sorts of electronic relationships that are so pervasive in the furry community are healthy, and in fact are kind of unsafe. Here's why: these two split. I don't know when this happened, but one day one of them (the other just disappeared entirely; I don't know what happened) has a girlfriend, namely a transwoman who sounded like a dude in their mid twenties on the mic. Now, this immediately bothers me; the first guy is still underage. So they "date" for months. Online. Until one day the first guy, the kid, just stops playing. I check his profile, and he's gone off to join the army. He apparently just turned 18 a few months ago. Now, checking the chick's profile, she describes herself as his girlfriend. Checking the dude's profile, he describes her as his boyfriend, and himself as gay. It would be funny if it weren't so sad. So in past few weeks the dude has come back from the army and started playing again, and the chick? He's going to marry her. Meanwhile, while he was away, she's obviously been erping with other furs. So basically, here's what the situation looks like to me: a 20-something year old dude -- well, a transwoman, so a chick, I guess? -- groomed an underage teen who obviously has no idea what he really wants into a relationship he clearly isn't ready for, and now they're going to get married apparently.
This was months ago. I have since removed all my non-IRL acquaintances from my friends list, and I don't really know how it turned out. I wanted to say something to this guy, to tell him that he was basically being abused, but I didn't. I didn't want to seem... I don't know, intolerant? But now I'm afraid I should have done something, and this guy is going to end up in some kind of belmonkey-type situation.
What do you guys think? Was it right to ignore them or should I have said something?
Weird porn is one thing but shit like this is genuinely disconcerting.
