Man, my favorite GTA by quite a bit with Vice City following. I recently played around the earlier version of the mod and radio stations.
Going to update it and give it another whirl. Rockstar really needs to do a proper remaster here for modern consoles, but I doubt they will bother. And you just know they won't relicense the music.
Is there a way to keep the camera centered behind your vehicle while you drive? Having to constantly move the camera with the car while steering is annoying. I forgot that was even part of the control scheme for this game.
Gave this a shot and promptly uninstalled and went back to v1.0.4.0 with Zolika patch. My performance is significantly higher there and I don't have to deal with the busted radio station situation. It just works. I was seeing frame drops down into the 80s with a 9950x3D and RTX 5090 from a CPU bottleneck. That was even with DXVK which puts me closer to 180+ fps at all times in the downgraded version.
Thanks for the thread. I was gonna try it, but the launcher directs me to an old ass email I haven't used in 10+ years. No clear way of how to update it.
Version 4:0 looks nice but it has some regressions compared to the older version i was using, for instance, headlights of cars won't cast Nico's shadow anymore, even when i enable all extra shadow options.

The small things like centered camera when driving is an awesome addition. I never could get used to the default off centered viewpoint.
As for the game, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed coming from the PS2 trilogy to IV, but the world and physics made fo an awesome sandbox, even if everything else was a let down.
Once I'm done replaying the goat Red Dead 1, I'll be installing this again.
That looks great. For a while the 360 through BC was a good way to play due to inconsistent framerates on PC (although the resolution was 720p), but this seems to fix everything and then some.
I just installed the game with the FusionFix and Radio Restoration Mod on the Deck and ran into a few hurdles.
But I got it running, and in case it helps some of you too, feel free to use my guide.
Maybe I made it more complicated than necessary, but I'm not an expert and in the end this setup works for me:
Installation Guide Steam Deck:
Download GTAIV from Steam
Launch it once, set up the Rockstar App, adjust the resolution correctly, then close it again
Switch to Desktop Mode
Download Fusion Fix, extract it and copy the contents into the folder where the GTAIV.exe is located
(best way: right click the game in your library -> Manage -> Browse local files -> go to the GTAIV folder)
In Steam right click the game -> Properties -> General and add the following line under Launch Options: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%
[Optional - install IV-RR-23-05-2025]
(restores the original radio stations / songs to the game)
Add IVCERadioRestoration.exe to your Steam library through Games -> Add a Non-Steam Game to my Library
In Steam right click IVCERadioRestoration.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility -> select Proton 9.0-4
Create a new folder in Downloads
Copy the entire contents of the GTAIV folder (where you added FusionFix) into this new folder
Launch IVCERadioRestoration.exe via Steam
In the installer select the new folder in Downloads where the copy of the game is located
Run the installation in this folder
Once installation is complete, copy all files from the new folder back into the "real" GTAIV folder and replace all old files there
Done - have fun!
If you're wondering about all the copying back and forth: I couldn't find a way in the Radio Restoration Mod installer to select the real installation folder of the game, since the Windows installer apparently doesn't have access to the folder structure.
However, I can access the Downloads folder both via Dolphin and the installer.
With the 40fps limit (set in-game, not in the Deck menu) and a TDP limit of 13 watts, the game holds the framerate and consumes about 19 watts.
I'm sure there's still room for tweaking depending on your preference.

With all these settings the game almost feels like it was made for the Deck.
I use this as well for the classic Xbox 360 version look. Probably crushed blacks, etc. but it just looks good with this game. Maybe consider turning on SMAA, the performance impact should be minimal.

I did activate SMAA and the game looks phenomenal, even on the Deck if you ask me.
I also changed extra night shadows in 'game' to lampposts and headlights. It seems to work fine for my 40fps settings and gives the world a little more depths.
I have to say that this mod is fucking sweet and just another reason why I love PC gaming. Turning the "GTA IV filter" off actually reintroduces color back into the game world. One of my biggest complaints about IV was how damn and dreary and dull it looked. Playing this at 3440x1440 with super clean, colorful visuals and 160 FPS is just a dream.
I am keeping it on I think. Usually not a fan of filters but this modded version of the filter looks just right to me, staying true to the original release while improving it.
Otherwise I think I will keep DOF at low, it is just too much at higher values.
Also doing 100/100 on the distance sliders and locking the fps to 100 in the in-game menu seems to be the best config for my machine.
What stands out to me is the great motion blur now. Remember, it was completely broken in vanilla.
View distance still hammers the CPU because the game will pretty much render the whole map I think.
With 9800x3d it can "drop" to 120 (so far) but I just want a locked 144 so I am also going to reduce view distance. (Detail distance seems to be ok at 100 for me). I am not GPU limited with a 5090 at 4k.
Lol I doubt anyone would be gpu limited on this thing, but yeah, view distance stuff are definitely gonna be resource hungry and problematic comparing to many other visual settings. And tbh I really don't think this setting in iv are really that awfully unstable as they made it out to be? The geometry detail difference between default value vs maxed out are kinda hard to ignore generally speaking. I get it during xbox 360era you have to compromise the shit for acceptable performance , but for now as long as we are not rockin with totally dated hardware like cpu from more than ten years ago, get a somewhat decent fps with the fixpack workaround ain't gonna be a hard thing for most ppl at this point you know
And nowadays devs deliberately capped the lod limit to avoid potential performance issues in these huge open world maps, but once you find ways to bypass the gate, the situation is still gonna be same old story as gta iv here most of the time or , even performing way worse are not totally impossible, at least this is the case for r* games xd. Like gta v's max lod limit (maxlodscale) can reach up to 3 instead of default 1 before game gonna crash on startup (there are still random crashes on 3.0 too), the lodscale value of rdr2 with modding engine configs can reach up to 3 as well with massive stuttering and other weird crashing&glitching issues on couple of spots, ( grasslod can be bumped up to 6 or 9 while default max value are 3), making the draw distance stand toe to toe against many current gen games most of the time, although the performance penalty ain't gonna be kind to current gpus for a raster rendering game as expected
Unfortunately, Nico's shadows have been removed from recent versions of the mod. You can't see this anymore:
They added added some other stuff, like how the other cars cast shadows now when they get in front of your headlights. But i really liked the above result. So i might stick to an older version since they said they won't add this again.
I also don't like the new volumetric fog. It's very intense and makes the game look too foggy and washed out. I prefer the clean look without it, the game already has some sort of distance fog anyway.

GTA4 Liberty City is still the best looking open world city IMO. Its not as detalied or as fancy as, say, Cyberpunk, but its the right amount of detail and the art direction is the best. It just looks more real to me. Even more so than GTA5.
GTA4 is one the best games in the series. I like the goofy and openness of 5, but 4 just hits different. It's more raw and harsh which is what GTA stands for imo ever since 1 and 2.
Was planning on replaying this but a lot of bangers came out lately. Will do whenever the next drought hits again.
Yesterday I had some free time and downloaded the game and tried the mod. It looks incredible, the previous version of the mod had some sort of weird popping that made buildings appear and dissapear when turning the camera but with the new version everything worked flawlessly. What a great work.
The only thing that I really hope they can add at some point is checkpoints during missions. Its a pain in the ass to die or make a mistake in a mission and having to start from the beginning

I finished the game recently and I didn't find it that difficult. I only died 3 times and only once during a mission due to a cosmic-level coincidence in the mission where you clear the construction site.
But it looks so damn good now that it makes me want to start another save.

I really like it. I am playing it alongside enhanced Xbox Series version and it holds up well. I especially appreciate being able to use the image filter from The Ballad of Gay Tony on the other GTA IV releases. No more piss filter or gray filter for me. My only complaint is the damn Rockstar Launcher, but at least it can run in offline mode past setup.
Fixed some issues that caused the "Graphics API" option to not work correctly.
Fixed an issue that would cause taxi pathing to break when the "Turn Indicators" option was enabled.
Fixed a black screen issue on some Linux setups when anti aliasing is enabled.
Fixed the flickering windows in Tony's apartment in TBOGT.
Added a crosshair to the first person view on the Annihilator when using gamepads. Previously it was only visible when playing with keyboard and mouse.
Increased more limits for the "ExtendedLimits" feature.
Adjusted LUT encoding/decoding. The LUT library was also updated for this change. Thanks to Pumbo for the heads up.
Placed the halloween event cheat in a hidden spot in the game world.
Added a cheat code for TLAD to restore Johnny's unused black pants (not in the game world yet).
Latest version of DXVK was replaced with v2.6.2 for broader compatibility with older hardware (e.g. AMD Polaris and Vega GPUs)

Independence fm is self audio, been in the pc version from the very start along with Classic 104.1. Self Actualization and vice city fm are originally introduced in Ballad of Gay Tony dlc, back in 2020 after the official complete edition upgrade r* merged the dlc content with base game together , since then these dlc exclusive radio stations coexist with all existing gta iv stations

Yeah id mostly played the 360 version, on that console and BC. Even though id had the pc version since years ago, id never really got stuck into it, till now.
As a side note, was just doing the Brucie mission to steal Lyles car, and it locked up
