Bonds is the best player ever and isn't in the Hall of Fame. What a joke of an institution. I also think it's funny (and stupid) that after everything that's happened in the past 10-15 years people and these dumbfuck writers still think they can tell who wasn't and was juicing based on how they look. Frank Thomas in! Mike piazza out...because bacne or something!

The whole thing is a joke and has completely ruined the idea of being a hall of famer. It doesn't mean shit anymore.

The new MLB Standard. MAXIM's Sexiest Legends.

Baseball writers are the worst. The absolute worst. A dozen players should have been inducted.

Glad to see Tommy and the Mad Dog going in together. It was a joy to grow up watching them.

Smoltz next year!

you know what is funny? last night I saw MLBN special about the HoF and they were argument about Bagwell and Piazza Numbers in the minor league and how they just jumped the in the major league. Like that never happen before? they sound like that is rare or bizarre. What kind of bs excuses is that?

Using the HoF voting blueprint.

Suspicious of him using steroids, doctoring the ball, wearing glasses, etc.

We need to find out when he started using the glasses

I'm a bit sarcastic about the glasses. My other points are valid though.

The voters who put in a blank ballot to prove a point about Pete Rose being left out is utter negligence and complete horseshit.

Get off your soapbox and fulfill your responsibility without trying to make a statement that no one is going to appreciate or heed.

I don't really have an opinion about Pete Rose. However leaving a ballot blank tells me that you think reinstating Rose is more important than giving deserving candidates the chance to enter Cooperstown. With so many quality players on the list this year and more in the coming years, its evident that each vote counts. Fortunately Biggio will make it in during the next round, but that can't feel good getting hosed like that.

I agree with the voting this year, but I would have added Schilling and Biggio as well. Only 2votes kept him out of the hall this year and I bet he is a little pissed, but he will get in next year no doubt.

2 HOF voters think JT Snow should be in the Hall of Fame?

Everything I know about baseball has just been discredited.

Juiced batter hitting off juiced pitchers. Stick em in the hall with an asterisk. Bonds was the greatest player to ever play the game.

There have been voters who have stated that they will flat-out never, ever vote for any player who played during the so-called steroid era. So you're right, that will never happen.

Yeah, it's not like it used to be. Back when everybody was on 18 kinds of speed and there were no coloreds allowed. Ah, the good ol days.

what does that even mean? juiced? juiced what? it doesn't matter how strong you are if you can't hit the ball and Bonds knew how to hit the damn always!

The moment in 2017 when Morris gets handed over to the Veterans Committee he'll be in on the first ballot. Sorry--the ERA argument isn't going to cut it.

Please.

He isn't getting in.

Only reason he has so many wins is because he was on good fucking teams.

3 times in his career he played for a team with a losing record ... out of 18 seasons.

If you don't want to go off his mediocre ERA ... you can go off his basically the same FIP.

This would be as bad as Jim Rice getting into the HoF ... oh wait.

Okay you can make the same argument against Glavine. Only reason he's in is because he amassed 300 wins. Career 3.50+ ERA and 1.30+ WHIP isn't all that great.

I am thinking about going to this ceremony in July. 3 1/2 hour ride is not bad. Yet to visit Cooperstown in my life so.

10 time Allstar. 2 time Cy Young winner. 4 time silver slugger!

Pitched during the height of roid-age.

This article sums up Glavine nicely.

Someone in the comments of this article summed it up nicely ...

"The moral of the story is: you can be a HOF pitcher if you have below-average K rates as long as you are above average at EVERYTHING else."

Morris's all time best ERA+ was 133. Glavine had 8 better seasons that that - some astronomically better. At their respective peaks, not even close

Same here, and next year will be worse.

I watched Pedro Martinez pitch twice at Fenway. And his 1999 season? The single most dominating season I have seen by any pitcher in my lifetime.

I still don't understand how he didn't win the MVP in 1999.
He was straight up robbed. I'm sad that he didn't win the MVP that year, whereas Justin Verlander got it a couple years back for a much, MUCH less dominating season. (Also, Pedro got robbed again in 2002: he deserved the Cy Young much more than Barry Zito...)

As for Ivan Rodriguez (who got the MVP in '99), I'll paraphrase his quote from a couple years in response to a reporter question asking if he ever took PEDs: "Only God knows."

So, to the poster in the thread who said Pudge is a shoo in for the HOF I say: Pete Rose, Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds will get in before he does. Dude is a straight up fraud.

In the end, he had a 118 ERA+. Like his other statistics, good but not HOF worthy.

He got in because of 300 wins.

Who submitted blank ballots?

Some writers submitted blank ballots in 1992 in response to Pete Rose. Misread this in the article. However, last year Howard Bryant submitted a blank ballot in response to the continuing steroid scandal. Still don't understand why voters feel the need to punish all athletes.

Not sure about this year so I guess my anger might be a little unnecessary at the moment.

No freaking way he is the best ever without roids. He was excellent no doubt and a (probable) first ballot HOF through 1998 before he started juicing, but he needed the drugs to become the superhero we saw from '99 through '04 (or something).

Admittedly, he was a guilty pleasure of mine in those years: he barely ever wasted a single pitch. Everything was hit on the nose and every called strike was arguably a ball, lol.

Still means way more than the NBA, NFL or (lol) NHL HOF.

I don't care what the guy was taking, he hit 73 HRs in the same season he was walked 177 times. The guy was a monster. In the land of cheaters, he was undoubtedly the king.

Are you a baseball fan and how old are you?

As Ninja Scooter said, Morris and Glavine are in 2 different leagues.

Which is why one got in on first ballot and the other didn't in how many years?

I'm pretty sure he's the Ryan Howard fan who thinks RBI totals are important and indicative of how good a player is.

I'm pretty sure you have no idea what you're talking about... But that's your shtick. I get it.

I can also speak for myself, thanks.

I'll say again- Career 3.50 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 118 ERA+... No way that's even close to HOF worthy. Oh wait, he has 300 wins. Now that player is automatic. He was never the best in the game, and he was never dominant. Just very solid over a long period of time.

They ripped Le Batard apart on PTI today, and deservedly so. You want to make some larger point about voting? That's fine. Do it on your TV or radio show. Giving away your vote makes the process even more of a joke. His vote should certainly be revoked next year.

Glad for Maddux, Glavine, and The Big Hurt. I watched Maddux and Glavine growing up and I hope Smoltz will join them next year. With Avery, one of the best rotations, bar none.
