I have favorite albums, rather than favorite rappers...

I'd go with:
. Nas (he made Illmatic)
. Jay-Z (his best top 10 songs are better than any other rapper's)
. Eminem (technically the best rapper ever)
. Slug (consistent as hell, great conceptual songwriter)
. Kanye (not an amazing rapper, but I love his honesty/inner conflict/humor)

Honorable mentions:
-Biggie (would be top 5 if he had more time...)
-Lupe (I have high hopes for him, still)
-Talib Kweli (the most intelligent rapper ever)
-Tupac (pure raw emotion).

Blackace

if you see me in a fight with a bear, don't help me fool, help the bear!
That should cover me for the next two days(been doing 10 hour days all week).

Now where's that Ruthless Records mix at? MC Ren, Eazy, DOC, NWA, Bone, Above the Law

I would actually really fuck with an Ace Ruthless mix.

This will happen, but you don't want to force something like a Ruthless mix... Been playing around with it in my head a bit! :)

Do have a new mix coming... Hopefully it can help someone get laid...

Smooth.

The young looks like a chill dude who is nerdy. The older looks too stylistic and pretty douchey.
The crazy... whoopi.
That's why Lupe was my favorite lyricist for quite a while back during the highschool years. I could relate to a lot of what he spoke of. Shit, he name dropped Lupin III in Touch the Sky, god damn it.

But now he's on The View with all those old white ladies.

-Eminem (best overall rapper, ever)
-Nas (best lyricist)
-Lupe (He has sooo much potential, F&L is such a classic)
-Kanye(still changes the game, most consistent rapper)
-Tupac

Save Me Dear, from all this Big Sean AIDS killing GAF HOP. Oh ghost lord, please provide us with a vaccine or an influx of dope music to stop this rampant tumblr infection. Save us milordeini, for we are wanting.

It should be requisite to list your age when making those top 5 top 10 lists. It could really blunt some of the pain for us older GAF hoppers.

Ok it's got to the point where I have to ask, does anyone really give a fuck about the MTV's hottest MCs in the game list, or are all these postings just for the humour of it or something? MTV has other specialist channels but the MTV channel itself has ceased to even really bother with music videos and stuff, the good old days of Yo MTV Raps are a distant memory and I just can't fathom why their 'hottest' MCs list deserves any kind of discussion whatsoever. Say what you want about XXL, and their hottest freshmen lists, but at least they're a dedicated hip hop publication that has a number of staff with some knowledge of hip hop while MTV is just... gah, I think it's all the Big Sean gifs that are making me stabby.

What are you, some kinda shill for the Greenova camp and its affiliates? Nah i'm just playing, that Silky interview was cool and if I was some kinda DJ or vinyl collector that 808s and Dark Grapes II vinyl would be great. One of the best album covers of last year and 808s and Dark Grapes II was one of my favourite albums of last year also.

Nobody gives a fuck except maybe dominokid. Of course that shit is embarassing.

XXL's freshman lists are stupid too. They give props to some off the wall awful shit. And not just popular. Just some worthless ass dudes.

I am huge mopster for sure. I prefer cloudy and wavy shit over more traditional stuff.

Every hip hop related list is stupid unless it comes from someone here. Team Gaf-Hop!

Fair enough man.

Nope, most peoples lists suck here too. It is what it is. Dont list things. Listing and ranking subjective shit like music is stupid and exists only for the sake of pissing people off.

Perhaps, but because of the community based nature of it, between everyone here you can cover an enormous amount of ground and expose yourself to a lot of things that you will feel. It would be foolish to entirely trust a place that has kanye cycles and big sean gifs flying around frequently lol.

Nice to see gaffers finally down with Main Attrakionz/Green Ova... I remember a time when no one gave a damn about these dudes. Most still don't, but whatevs.

And since lists have been going through this thread: Chandelier was my top record last year, any genre. Followed by a bunch of other Green Ova releases, Danny Brown, AraabMuzik's LP, Spaceghostpurrp, Clams instrumentals, Asap Rocky... and a fuckton of juke/footwork music as well.

Anyway, to close off the GO gushing:

http://crashsymbols.bandcamp.com/track/hard-in-the-paint-ryan-hemsworth-remix

This remix is the most bizarrely genius thing I've heard in a while. It's basically Waka's/Lex Luger's ridiculously over the top trap sound being morphed into this melancholic, epic battle hymn. Love it.

1. Me...bitches
2. Slug
3. Ice Cube (people forget just how amazing he was as a rapper in the late 80's early 90's, best in the game at the time)
4. Eminem (as much as he's made me dislike him the last few years I can't forget how much I loved his first three albums)
5. Method man/Redman (both influenced my early writing and style immensely)
6. Spice 1 (first rapper to make me actually believe he would shoot me in the fucking face)
7. Big Boi (Didn't like the god stuff on the last album, but he's so good it was still in my top 5 of the year)
8. Big Pun (I listened to capital punishment till the CD melted)
9. Common (again, it's easy to disregard him for his latest work, but resurrection through LWFC got an incredible amount of play from me)
10. Scarface (so many great albums, so under-appreciated)

Game is up there too, when he's good he's really really good. It's too bad those moments are fewer and farther between recently.
Aesop Rock was my favorite rapper for a long time, he'd make top ten on the right day.
Treach (from Naughty By Nature) needs a mention, another underrated rapper that never got the attention he deserved for being a great rapper with a great voice, delivery, and flow.
Obviously 2pac would be in the top 20 for me, as overplayed as he became with all those posthumous releases watering down his legacy, me against the world and all eyez on me were my albums of the summer in 95 and 96.
Also have to mention Biggie of course, who had that kind of style I love, where he could rap about anything and make it sound good.
Snoop Dogg is the best bad rapper in the world. There are times I literally shake my head at how bad his lyrics are, but it doesn't matter, he's just likable.

The first half was unexpected and did not expect Ross' voice AT ALL, haha. But halfway through the slow jams kicked in and all was well. Good shit, man.

had to have some build up to the slow jams.. lol

So I was looking up DJ Premier's discography and noticed Group Home - Livin' Proof on there. I have never listened to it, how fast do I need to rectify this?

Quick Question.
What are Jay Z's must have albums?

Reasonable Doubt, Roc Dynasty, Blueprint 1, Black Album, American Gangster. anyone who leaves AG or Roc Dynasty off the list probably shouldnt talk about Jigga.

top 5 favourite rappers?
Pac, Big, Hova/Nas, Pharoahe Monche, Canibus

was this posted?
http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2012/02/09/obama_s_spotify_playlist_lots_of_country_zero_rap.html
Obama's campaign playlist deliberately leaves out any rap, even though the guy fucking listens to it and did that amazing "Dirt Off Ya Shoulder" reference back in 08.
It's interesting that whoever made that list is too cowardly to even put a cuss free, positive themed rap song on there. as if the type of folk offended by rap music would be persuaded by Obama's campaign playlist.

Em the best rapper ever...
Early Nas destroys Em's best shit, especially in terms of lyrics. Em comes hard with the rhyming schemes, but early Nas shit has a level of intricacy and creativity that's off the charts. (The only close competitor is GZA, but that man's flow isnt anywhere near Nas' level.) Em's demonstrated more versatility on the mic, I'll give him that, but jesus fuck, his newest shit I can barely listen to it. New Nas, as of late, has been spitting fire.

It will bother Em one day that he is trash.. just like it bothered Nas
