Just found out a club I've been to a few times here does hip hop nights on fridays. I might have to go check it out. It's always kind of lame going to a club alone but I'm curious.

Yup, I was impressed by 1999 big time. He has plenty of room to grow, so we'll see where he goes. Hopefully he does show some more versatility next time, but I'm okay with the trapped in the 90's raps.

Kind of bored of seeing Rihanna nude now tbh.

Kinda tired of Rihanna period. Chris brown is a dumb dude. Karrauche > Rihanna.

But dumb dudes will do dumb things.

I phrased that wrong- I like some RnB. Frank O, the weeknd, I love. For some reason that Trey Songz Neyo lane doesn't do it for me, just is too cheesy. Tguys RnB thread is educating me tho.
I think if you like them(frank, weeknd) too then you definitely like RnB. I don't think Trey and Neyo should be used to represent if you like the genre. But yea post if you dig anything in that thread

I can't believe TI sold 180k. Garbage album, had zero promotion. Wow.

TI still is a name that sells I guess.

The album was okay. Nothing special, it was okay. I am happy to see it sell though. Rap fans need there to be money made from the music or there will be less and less money put into it.

There were a couple of jams on there, but too much pandering to radio for me.

I agree with you.

Debating whether or not to give GKMC the number 10 spot on my list. Album didn't click w me at all.
wait

wait WHAT

EDIT: ^ Wow, 2Chainz did those numbers? Man of the year for sure is either 2Chainz or Pusha, I don't see anyone else in contention. Also, Jesus Piece is on that list Domino.

So where in this list does GAF-Hop draw the line between success and failure in record sales? Or are they all winners?

Looking at the order alone is interesting and depressing. 75k for Curren$y is amazing, but stuff like 321k for Tyga is surprising to me, I didn't know people liked dude like that, and at the same time I'm wondering how much he's making back outta that vs. what Spitta is getting.

The failures just aren't on the list at all. I think Dj khaled number is surprisingly low though

Even that stuff (spitta vs tyga) is kinda hard to judge. If Tyga was dropped from YMCB tomorrow, he would not be eating six months into 2013. WB could drop Curren$y tomorrow and he'd still find ways to make the cash plus im sure he's a lot smarter about his money in the long run.

But that stems from the kinda artists they are. Tyga needs singles, club plays, radio plays etc to eat. Curren$y can drop an album, guaranteed stan support and then go tour (even small club/venue) off it. Tyga cannot do this. He doesn't have the base for this. Dudes like Tyga need either a strong local scene or label backing to thrive and we all know nothing about Tyga is not local (he is not from compton).

Khaled is just less relevant than he used to be. Honestly his beats sound kinda dated, like im listening to some club shit from like 2005.

Which I guess was when he was on top sales wise

individual basis. i could go in detail but im about to go out for a bit.

Tyga has his own porn company, I'm sure he'd eat we'll without YM

That list shows how weak MMG is. Meek flopped when you consider what many thought he could do; I thought Amen would be huge and he'd get close to gold. Ross will barely go gold after basically redoing his album twice. Self Made 2 flopped too. They spend money like YM but aren't making a third as much

Shyne says his Game diss "Bury Judas" is up there with Ether, Takeover and Hit 'Em Up.

Yeah. Maybe we could split it independents vs. majors? At what sales threshold would a major drop someone because it isn't sustainable and they're better off funding the next hit? I still recognize there's variability within the dudes on majors though.

If your an independent, and on that list, your cakin'.

Uh.. what are you talking about? Who expected Meek to do a milli in a week? MMG dominated the top 10. Numbers don't lie. They have 3 of the top 10 selling records in rap all year.

Who you know buying porn, let alone buying Tyga branded porn in 2012 my dude? Did you buy it PD? Be Honest.

What's the thought process behind wanting to start doing porn when you already have money?

speaking of Spitta, what happened to that mixtape with Wiz? Not that I'm checking for anything Wiz does of course, but still.

I would think his literally 19 quality mixtapes would give you something to do in the meantime, furthermore I'd rather check for Wiz than Tyga porn. ;)

so here's how i look at it

TOP 10

NICKI MINAJ - Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded : 758,678 <- ultimately successful despite flopping out of the gate
KENDRICK LAMAR - Good Kid, m.A.A.d City : 505,910 <- successful
RICK ROSS - God Forgives, I Don't : 482,000 <- push. Rich Forever wouldve sold more.

G.O.O.D. MUSIC - Cruel Summer : 389,000 <- push. label comp
NAS - Life Is Good: 341,000 <- successful
TYGA - Careless World : Rise of the Last King : 321,000 <- i don't buy it. i dont think he could get 150K to buy his album let alone 300K. probably YMCMB inflated. but successful i guess.
MEEK MILL - Dreams And Nightmares : 273,605 <- push. a little lower than what i wouldve expected
MAYBACH MUSIC GROUP - Self Made Vol. 2 : 255,018 <- successful
B.O.B. - Strange Clouds : 248,150 <- idk what to make of him. seems like he has a loyal audience though.

LECRAE - Gravity : 157,045 <- successful. very successful.
LUPE FIASCO - Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1 : 154,482 <- this is why they made him make Lasers

Yo we need an AOTY thread.

Also, 2 Chainz is prooob my man of the year, but an argument can be made for Gucci (3 FUCKING QUALITY MIXTAPES), Pusha like you said, or Kendrick despite my not loving GKMC.

Feature master of the year aka green ranger award (shamelessly ripped from KTT)? Schoolboy Q hands down no?

No but I watched a couple vids. Not gonna lie, I wanted to see Tyga fucking. He talks so much shit I wanted to see if he backed it up, pause.

You know dude just directs/owns the brand? He doesn't do any fuckin.
