GAF-HOP OT6(66) Wu-Tang is for Asians and Weeaboos

Oh,Jesus stop the preaching. The reason we don't about many current female MCs is because there really aren't many worth talking about. You know about Pryde, Eternia and Moss put out a decent record last year. Other than that what's out is garbage and it has precisely zero to do with their wedding tackle. If the game ever births another Lady of Rage, I guarantee you this board will go nuts about it.

But Banks?

Asking us to get all talkative about some reheated pop act with only the faintest of hip hop trappings is like asking Pop GAF why they don't talk more about Nas, because you know, he's done some pop songs before and what, do y'all just not strong black men???

Preaching? eh? Im asking the guy why he cares if its male or female. Jumping down the wrong guys throat.

Real talk some semi good looking chick should try and get in the j. cole early yeezy lane but for chicks. some awkwardblackgirl type shit. I bet she'd move units.[/QUOTE]

i'm almost certain that wouldn't work on a big level in today's music climate.

The latter.

???

What would that accomplish? I'll just list the female rappers who, throughout the years, made enough of an impression on me to have an opinion on them, good or bad.

In no particular order:

Nicki Minaj - Gets a lot of hate. Deserves most of it. Her mixtapes were hot. Itty Bitty Piggy is all you need to listen to if you don't believe there's a legitimate rapper underneath all the Pop pageantry.
Azealia Banks - Squandered potential. Has it in her to be a huge force in Hip Hop but will likely punch herself out the game with her stank-ass-attitude. 1991 is probably the freshest thing I've heard out of Hip-Hop in years, so it's a shame. Liquorice is one of the stringest femine statements since Queen Latifah's UNITY.
Lil Kim - Hardcore is my shit. Notorious KIM is my shit. La Bella Mafia is my shit. The Naked Truth is my shit. One of the first MCs to really embrace pop culture, and was a better MC on her own merit than most people want to admit.
Foxy Brown - Had some dope moments, but was never a threat to Kim. Oh Yeah was my shit.
Trina - The blueprint for career longevity for females in the game. She's never had her time in the "spotlight", but I am in awe that she's still in a position to make albums that sell after all this time.
Khia - Who doesn't love My Neck My Back?
Da Brat - Self explanatory. Funkdafied? Yes. Followed in the MC Lyte school of spittin as hard as a dude. A shame she punched herself out, though. This would become a theme for females in Hip Hop.
Lola Monroe - LOL
Iggy Azalea - Has more potential than I think she gets credit for. I enjoyed her Ignorant Art mixtape. I've got my eye on her.
Rah Digga - Disappointed that we didn't get more out of her.
Sole - 4,5,6 was my middle school shit. She ruined Genuwine, though.
MIA - I get the impression that people don't consider her Hip Hop, but I do. Arular is a staple of mine.
Shawna - More disappointment. Gettin Some was my shit. I thought she had some legitimate skills. The poof.
Charlie Baltimore - Loved "Feel It" when I was kid, but I remember thinking even back then that she was a little bit of a mess.
Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes - RIP
Jacki-O - Not particularly good at all. But trashy as fuck and I loved it. Pussy Real Good? LOL
Brooke Candy - Slowly but surely I'm checking for this one. Stuff like "Everybody Does" is fun but I'm waiting for her to display some genuine skills.
Diamond - More Trashy Fun
Queen Latifah - Goes without saying.
Missy Elliot - One of the best MC/Producers of all time. Fuck gender. Her first album remains my favorite, though. Followed closely by "Miss E...So Addictive"

There, although I'm probably missing some names.

EDIT - Add in Remy Ma. Conceited was my jam. Jump was hot. Another punch-out, though.

Oh cut the crap.

For the life of me I don't understand why people are so quick to dismiss Azealia Banks as more Pop crap. Is it because she caught the attention of Pop audiences? Because surely it can't be because of her music, which is more straight up Hip Hop than anything else.

Hell, she even pissed off her small Pop audience when she released BBD, because she was hyping it like it was going to be a Dance track and ended up being Trap.

And when her EP and Mixtape are filled with songs like Jumanji, Liquorice, 1991, Fuck Up The Fun, Fierce, Nathan, L8R, and Runnin I don't think it's fair to label her as Pop just because she's also got some tracks that are crossover-ish.

Like, seriously, what is it? Because she uses 90s club beats? People who continue to brush off Azealia as though all she is is Pop will get dismissed as never having actually listened to her music. She's no Nicki.

Why not, it wouldn't be too different from what Lauryn Hill was. She'd of course have to be attractive, due to demands/expectations, but I could totally see a female Cole or even Drake. Missy showed that female rappers don't need to be hyper sexualized

That's not trap.

Jeezy, TI, shawty redd, Toomp, three 6 is trap.

That flow is annoying it's like she isn't saying anything except repeating sounds.

i don't have that much faith in the current musical climate.

even missy wasn't hypersexed, her music was.

People continue to brush off Banks because she sucks. Not sure what crap you want me to cut out, but the fact remains that if you're upset that an interest you have isn't being discussed in the venue that you want it discussed it, that's on you. Start the conversation. Don't hop in a thread and start throwing not-so-subtle shots at the entire thread on how we need to expand our horizons because we're not talking about what you want to talk about. Fucking period.

Now, we have talked about Banks here and there, she even has a couple fans around here, so not even sure what the issue is. We also talked heavily about Eternia and Moss when that came out (go check my posts, LOVED that record and I still play her in the Plug DJ room). People talk about Pryde almost every other day here. If you know somebody new that we should be checking into, drop some knowledge. We're pretty open minded here and different people like all kinds of stuff.

Nice dodge there.

Think Azealia sucks all you want. She's not really my favorite, either. But that wasn't what I addressed when I responded to your post. I asked why you and several others brush Azealia Banks off as Pop. A question you didn't even attempt to answer. She's not Pop. It's a statement that betrays a lack of awareness of her music.

The question was answered, you're just not able to really out two and two together, apparently. The question of whether or not she's pop or rap is for stupid people to argue over. Why? Because both have loose enough definitions and arguing over what is "true" hip-hop is supremely stupid. If it is to you, so be it. If I disagree, so what? We can bash out heads until we pass out and it still wouldn't change the relevant discussion. Is the artist, whether rap, trap, country, Muzak, pop, whatever, any good? And with regards to Banks the answer is a resounding no.

Oh? Ok.

So then you admit that this:

Asking us to get all talkative about some reheated pop act with only the faintest of hip hop trappings is like asking Pop GAF why they don't talk more about Nas, because you know, he's done some pop songs before and what, do y'all just not strong black men???

Was an incredibly pointless and off-base comparison to make? One that could only lead to a discussion that you're now admitting is pointless? Alright. We're on the same page.

By the way, and I only feel it's fair to point this out due to all the lurking I do...but you guys spend a noticeable amount of time discussing artists that apparently nobody likes. lol

We always talk about artists nobody likes. That's part of the fun. Half of GAF-Hop talk is shit talking on Cole and Gambino.

I get that. PopGAF spends most of our time shitting on acts we hate. lol

Just thought it was worth pointing out amongst all the responses that artists like Azealia Banks don't get discussed because nobody likes her.

Nah, you're just not following along. I still think she's far, far more pop. But it doesn't matter and has no bearing on why we don't talk about her, as you posited. We talk about pop/rap all the time. Last page I talked about Macklemore at length.

I don't like Banks but she can rap, there's no doubt about that. Licorice is a great song, and she has some others I like. Can't say I'm a fan of hers though. I am straight, after all.

speaking of which, she pretty much ended her career before it started over the F word

She needs to do more stupid stuff. The guys that regularly get bashed on in this thread are usually being talked about because they did something worthy of bashing.

come to think of it the only time she's been mentioned in this thread at any length was during the vicious ethering she copped from Angel Haze, shit was too funny lmao

That, and dicking her fanbase around too much. The music industry ain't gaming, and she's not Square-Enix. The hype you create has an expiration date. Back when she was releasing videos for 1991 pretty much everyone
in Pop
was waiting with baited breath for her to drop an official single. Now hardly anybody is really checking for her.

Knowing Banks, she'll be beefing with someone soon enough.

The sad thing about that is she fucked around and let herself get ETHERED by a LESSER artist. Don't get me wrong, I'm checking for Angel Haze too. But just going by body of work presented Azealia Banks>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The fact that so many people see Angel as having destroyed Azealia Banks in that beef just goes to show how much people are getting tired of AB not putting her money where her hairline is.

She didnt just cop an ethering, she lost in every way.

1) she lost the rap battle.
2) she lost the twitter shit talk.
3) she looks salty because angel didnt let her stroke the cat

thats a pretty comprehensive L. in fact i'm paying attention to Angel Haze more ever since the beef lol

This make so me so fucking happy I can't even put it into words. Listening to these guys since their come ups (Rocky's less because he blew up when he came out, other than 4loko and Get High), but... jeez. Seeing French being the King of NY... but still giving Max his shine... brings a tear to my eye.

ASAP wears normal things 99% of the time but he gets shit for the once a month he dresses like an idiot.

I like Azalea Banks, but I think her album will disappoint.
