Yeah, some of it is part of his 'I'm so crazy' persona but I'm not gonna lie a lot of that shit sounds like overcooked mommy issues (and then later wifey issues).

Anyway I don't see anything wrong with what she said. Yeah its hip hop, but also yeah if you imply you're gonna rape someone they'll be upset. That's just how life is.

I get your point. I just think your playing into that game by being offended by it or think it'll change anything. Guy is a megastar and can say pretty much anything within the confines of bars and people will eat it up.

He's gonna sell regardless. The fact you brought it up is exactly what he intended to happen. It's how he became relevant, lame shock value. It's 2014 and he's still doing the same thing. No one will look down on him, most will just roll their eyes and think "oh eminem, what will you say next".

It's what he does.

I mean, "it's Em" shouldn't really fly though, right? It's not 1999 anymore, he's got an adult daughter and he's in his 40s. Ricky got raked over the coals for one line that only implied rape. There is no secret why that happened but people are still trying to give Slim a pass.

I'm an Em fan and fucking hate the fake outrage epidemic, but you have to know that rapping about rape today is going to cause a lot of people to tune out. He's old and out of touch, so he's proabbaly getting that confused with how the same stuff pissed people off back when he came out. It's not edgy or clever at his stage of his career, to say the least The world moves on and eventually, he's going to say some shit that will end his career and it will likely have to do with rape.

He's proven it time and time again. Like dom said, Ricky got brought to task over the rape line simply because he's not a megastar and can't get away with it like Em can. Also he doesn't rap about silly shit like that all the time like eminem does.

I'm not condoning it, but it really is just what eminem does. People stopped getting offended because I believe they copped on to the fact he's doing it for that reaction outta people.

I can't even fathom the circumstances that would make people take down Em. He's much more embedded in pop culture than the above, made loljk part of his schtick, made millions off of his soft side (but he's a really good guy!), made millions off of being counter-culture and has a legion of zombie fans that have carried him through many other trials (using the n-word, raping in the past, etc.).

This dude wins this shit before he goes in. I think he's untouchable. This industry will treat him much better than Polanski.

He made The Passion of the Christ, and starred in Braveheart and Lethal Weapon. I'm not sure you can grasp the gravity of these things being a soulja girl from Canada(mostly wrt The Passion), but they were a very big fucking deal.

Please explain how he has gotten a pass all this time then? If he was "touchable" he woulda had his card pulled on any of the many occasions he's rapped about silly shit like this before. I don't think you understand the gravity of how big eminem really is.

Don't ever use this thread as an indication, eminem is shit on constantly in here but he's still a megastar. Like it or not.

Like, the main thing separating Em suffering that magnitude of consequences then vs. now to me is social media. And I think that might even work in his favour. Em also doesn't thrive on being in people's feeds every day of the week, so it's really not like people will get sick of him like the it-female-model of the week. They'll forget about it by the time he's back in the news. I mean, he's been doing this for like over a decade.

Lol dude, i dont understand the gravity of Eminem? Im from Missouri, man. Fall back. He hasn't gotten a pass. People have been criticizing him for the shit he says his whole career. That's actually a very valid point. It just seems like he's been doing it so long hes almost exempt at this stage. I mean he should get called on his shit. But he's been around so long and been doing it so long people tend not to care when he does it over and over again. It's like people have been trained not to take the guy seriously.

And if they do he benefits anyways.

The guy is 42 and has a teenage daughter. Imagine that comes up in conversation. Even the daughter has to know it's all shock tactics to keep her in the mansions he can afford.

Eminem may be a cornball, but so are the majority of rappers. It's just a ridiculous fucking song and dance industry filled with absurd characters saying absurd shit that swings from teenage wet dreams to scarface delusions. Eminem is playing his character as is everyone from the Jay Z to the Bobby Smegma to the Kanye to the Freddie Gibbs to the Rick Ross. And it's so transparent and over the top that every single one of them comes across corny. But it's still fun and entertaining regardless.

The problem is when these dudes start believing their own characters.
