GAF Maddenites: PS2 or Xbox?

Matrix

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.
Konex is buying madden?

PS- I still might get the collectors edition also...I might just go football crazy this year.

Xbox = hard drive = franchise mode saves ALL my stats from every year

Sorry but nothing can take me away from that!

Xbox Madden...

Better graphics (albeit only slightly)
480p
Better sound (5.1 DD)
Hard Drive = unlimited and easy saves (especially for my replays and franchises)
Faster loading times.
Custom user soundtrack support. I love this feature for when I'm editing rosters etc.
Way better analog sticks on Xbox (I hate the domed PS2 analog sticks, in Madden my thumb always slips with the dualshock analogs)
Way way better online. Xbox Live kills PS2 online IMO. Friends list, voice chat etc.
No Gameshark cheaters with hacked unstoppable running backs.
DM and FMT will be on Xbox version. ;)

Maybe one, some or all of these reasons are why they are moving to the Xbox version?

14-10 Xbox, early in the third page. It's a one score game, folks. And now a word from our sponser.

like i said, if sony wants to fix my ps2 for free then theres a good chance i'll pick up the game for both systems. but im in the same boat as you, i'm not going to spend an extra $150 + price of the game to play it on ps2....

wasabi is right though, lots of great talent on the ps2 side too, i was just razzin you guys about the mj comment :p

and though madden is the superior game, we had fun with the PS2 espn league last year. the main problem wasn't that the gameplay was terrible or anything, it was that the servers were a fucking joke.

ramirez, even if you only play online the possibilities are better w/ the harddrive. lets say a bug slips through QA @ tiburon. if its on ps2, you're fucked. if it's on xbl, they can upload a patch to you to fix the problem. infact, EA could upload a patch to fine-tune gameplay as well (they did this with NFL 2k3). i'm not turning my back on ps2, but what can i do when my ps2 continues to die on me at random times? seems like whenever i want it to work i have to take it apart and adjust the laser. hopefully sony will fix it for free

How long does a game take to load on Xbox Madden 2004?

You are a jaded gamer. ;)

And there will be tens of thousands of Xbox Madden players online. There will be more than enough talent for anyone.

I'm not jaded at all, it's the truth, as you will discover within the first 2 weeks of playing. In fact, it happened with Madden last year. And it's the usualy case of the GAF game lifespan. You see it all the threads people start here, and then games just fade into oblivion. Madden's probably had the greatest GAF lifespan ever.

There won't be "tens of thousands" madden players either, such as there weren't many instances where there tens of thousands of Madden PS2 players online. All I will hear is that the defense is too hard to play against (since a lot of those two week gamers bitched about that in 2004) and people will return their games, yet again.

lol, who could forget konex's two-week madden 2004 run??

"why is the ball getting picked when i throw into triple coverage? how do you know i'm going to pass when i run 5 wide?"

it's pretty pointless to argue which system is "better" for madden, cause they are at their core very even. EAOnline is awesome on ps2, even against 56k. XBL is awesome online. both systems will have plenty of players (part of the reason madden hadn't sold well in years prior is lack of online play, you'll see a spike in the XB madden userbase), both systems will have legit players (from GA and otherwise), and both games will be a lot of fun online

I love defense. I'm sure you're right and all, but some of us will be digging the shit out of it. I would love to have amazing defensive games. I hope it holds true actually and people don't find to many exploits. But I've always been that way. There are plenty of people just like me on XBL too. :)

But I hear ya though, I'm sure the kiddies who like to throw bombs all day will be upset. But the thing is, with XBL, you can build up a friends list of good quality gamers and getting a game with them is really easy once they are in your buddy list.

i have a feeling the game will be a defensive game this year because ray lewis is on the cover. if you look at the trend, it seems to follow the cover guy setting the tone for the game. vick last year, faulk the year before, culpepper... i seriously think the D is going to be stout this year.

i still have to adjust to the lack of "play the run, play the pass" feature @ the snap of the ball :( i liked that feature a lot...

Xbox.

I want to lose to you suckers in the fall. Or, maybe I just might be good. Imagine, Madden, Xbox, XBL, McNabb throwing behind TO. It'll be glorious. I was suprised at how well Madden 2003 replicated that tendency. And now (i'm playing thru a season) I'm getting control of his running ability and not take any sacks, boy, it'll be a good year.

But sadly, I fear hearing the voice of FMT will be like hearing the voice of AndyDouche...or seeing MAFs face. It justs takes the kick out of the personality.

No it wont. FMT is the same as he is on the mic, talking trash and giving audio reviews on JGar's latest gay porn movie, Pillow Talk ReLOADED!

no such luck my friend i will trash talk you even after the game is decided... and usually my victory is sealed after the 1st quarter when i go up 42-0!

p.s. plus i WANT to take the eagles on and give T.O. what he deserves

Oh please, the only person that I heaven't beat is LittleTokyo. And I've used Rick Mirer and the old men WRs to kick a certain champion's behind in a defense-laden stunner. You can't tell me that all the talent is on the XBox side.

This is exactly what will happen by September 30th, and I'm padding myself a good month here:

1. Former EA/Madden haters who showered EA with love with the XBL support will quit because they can't understand why they can't throw passes 50 yards off their backfoot after a 15 step drop, or when the discover that they can't break 10 tackles... per running play.

2. Everyone will laugh at Konex/Cloudy's expense cause we will still continue to throw into 3 or 4 man coverage. Even more laughter when he doesn't understand why sending in the house doesn't stop QBs immediately.

I don't understand the shot on ESPN 2004. Sure ESPN is not perfect but neither is Madden. Don't judge ESPN based on Konex suck at Madden, he couldn't play ESPN either. I am one those guys that supported ESPN but in the end it wasn't the running game that killed it for me, it was the worst servers in the history of online gaming. You could stop the run in ESPN but you had to actually had to play the run to stop it. Unlike Madden which I could stop alot of the times even though I was playing a Pass Defense.

Here some the flaws in both games I hope is fixed this year:

Madden:

Motion Glitch
Drop Back 15 yards and Pass
Toss Plays and Screen Passes to RB (almost never worked)
Turbo Boost to get to the ball
Poor Defensive Lineman pursuit

ESPN:

Poor Servers
Broken Tackles
Cutting on a dime
CB and Safety Blitzs too slow
Zones Defenses very weak

In the end the best time and the worst time I had with a football game last year was ESPN, the servers were unplayable. Madden on the other was great but was missing one key feature, online leagues. I had fun playing both though.

I havent heard much on the ESPN problems, but from what I've read of Madden from impressions and interiews, all of these were fixed. The Madden producer even said they spent a lot of time trying to fix the drop back 15 yard stuff, especially while running with the ball and throwing it.

I'm getting the Xbox version, but that's because I don't have a PS2.

I would also like to clarify the Action Replay discussion from earlier in the thread.

I have seen AR cheating in two Live games. In PGR2, people who just bought the game could download all the cars and have the fastest ones in the game. Not really cheating per say, but when they sucked at the game to begin with it was really annoying.

In RS3, there was an action replay cheat that allowed players to throw molotov cocktails instead of grenades. It was instant death for anyone near the landing area. It could hit the ceiling 15 feet away and you would still die.

Also, could someone explain the XBL authentication and then a seperate EA Sports online name?

From my understanding, you login with your XBL gamertag like you would with any other XBL game, but then after that you are on EA's server where you login with your EA nick (you either already have one from PS2, or you make a new one). Once you login with your EA nick you are now on EA's server where you use their EA Messenger and their server features.

rat, looking like jim carey from in living color, and about to obliterate the rams D... just like he will do in madden 2005. save some for dorsey, rat!

In other words, its not going to be seemless like in other XBL games. I'm beginning to wonder if you will be able to receive invites from other games or give invites to your Madden game in this kind of set up.

Does anyone know if while you are playing a game offline whether or not you will still be logged onto Live like like PGR2 or RSC2, etc.?

Im sure you will be able to receive invites from other XBL games, has any game not allowed you to send and receive invites?

yeah, i already have a NA, headset and now (thanks to my bro buying FFXI) a HDD, so no i get all the Xbox perks, no need to spend an extra $50 on XBL.

OK, it's clear, shpankey, that you haven't touched Madden 2004 online, but you never claimed to do so, therefore, no crap from me in an arrogant tone, for now. EA Sports Online, including EA Big franchises, had a universal buddy list that would carry over all the games. If I login to Madden and check my buddy list, I could see that would be MiG playing NFL Street, DM playing Tiger Woods PGA Golf, and Matlock playing SSX 3. So, in essence, the ONLY advantage XBL has over PS2 is voice, and that's optional via headset. to be honest, the only people I really chat it up with folks from GAF and offline friends.

Gunstar: Now granted this was the E3 build, but Tyrone Wheatley does NOT run 65+ yards on the first play from scrimmage, breaking 3 tackles along the way. Tyrone Wheatley doesn't get 65 yards per game. LittleTokyo taught me that screen passes and toss plays DID work, and how Trung Canidate was someone not to overlook. I'll take your word on the defensive glitches in Madden, cause after our match, it's pretty clear that we play very differently, cause I don't count on the front line as much as my linebackers. That or maybe because I don't use the Eagles, hehe.

the ONLY advantage XBL has over PS2 is voice, and that's optional via headset.

nah, thats not an advantage. both systems have really good headsets. unless you meant an advantage in that more people on xbl have headsets than ps2 by default.

but the only real advantage of XBL over ps2 online is the possible inclusions of patches, network performance is a bit better (although madden ps2 online is smooth as can be), and the fact that there are no cheaters. no cheaters may not seem like a big deal, you could say "just play people you know" and i do play mostly people i know, but at the same time i want to personally be able to be top 50 in scoring or defense or something. but when these fuckers use gameshark (like i said check the online stats ranking for 2004) its just pointless to even TRY to be a "top ranked" player

FMT, well, if you're going to play on XBL, you have the headset, and therefore, the advantage is can use voice, vs. the uncertainty with some PS2 users. And even so, it's really not a big deal. I think in all of my matches, I've had discussions of real-life NFL with FMT and DM, why LoveLine rocks with Rors, and setting up some things for my visit to NYC with CK. With people I didn't know, it would just be "nice play."

I don't know if looking forward to patches is exactly a positive thing in online gaming in general, but that's a different discussion altogether. But to put things in prospective, EverQuest Online Adventures were able to run patches on PS2 games as well... Then again, most of the game was server-side, which is not the case with Madden.

it's not that i'm looking forward to it, infact i should've prefaced that with "god forbid you'd ever need a patch". but take last year for instance. if EA was on XBL, they could have simply let you download a patch to fix the NCAA import draft problem in madden (the first run of maddens on xbox wouldn't let you import your ncaa draft classes, replacement disks had to be issued).

and about the voice thing, that's not always true. not everyone on XBL has the headset or mic for whatever reason. you can actually buy a 12 month subscription to XBL without the headset and its cheaper, so a lot of people did that.

let me ask you this tho wasabi, lets say you had an xbox, you had xbl already, had a headset the works, which version would you go with?

I would have to get both cause I can't leave my other offline buddies hanging. I'd like to play with you guys as well, and kick some crap out of the people who cracked on Madden last year (PhatSaqs you bandwagoning bitch), but I can't leave my other buddies hanging out to dry. I know a lot more people offline who play Madden than online acquaintences.

You should get a PS2 mic, so you can hear my screams.

But really...Since I only play with people I know (on or offline) the mic adds that much more to it. I really don't like playing with it off, but I'll do it if I have to.

I'm with you, really. I just shoot the shit with people, but I can actually concentrate on my play calling at the same time. It's like walking and chewing gum, I can do both without a problem. ;)

PS2 collector's version all the way....

Plus I'll be playing the same people as last season since none of my friend's are willing to miss out on the collector's version being true Madden fans from way back...

I really dont think I could deal with that :p

See I cant do that :( It also doesnt help that I'm pretty bad at Madden and if someones talking to me I know 100% I will lose.
