Game Developer Analyzes Mario Kart 9 and Nintendo Switch 2 Joycons

Yay, a bunch of stuff that has been standard since late xbox 360 and ps3, pbr, volumetric lighting and shadow maps, he's talking like it's some crazy achievement.
Could you point me to a PS360 game that had all of them and ran at 60fps at good LOD? He's not saying the tech is new. He's saying that it's taxing, but I wanna know what's on your mind when you say that.

hes being fececious.

in reality the T239 in this device is going one of three ways.

1280 cude cores, 1536 cuda cores or 2048 cores depending on whos leak you go with and whos GCP count you trust.

if it is based on the RTX 30 series and uses DLSS 2, 1080p in handheld will be just fine.

He’s being silly. It’s based on Nvidia’s Ampere architecture that only got announced in mid 2020.

Not going to lie. With his hair that long and with that outfit on i thought he was cosplaying as a persona girl jk. But in terms of the switch 2, power will be equivalent to seeing mario running on a ps4 which is all nintendo fans will care about.

I think it's neat that they might be used as optical mice.
I think it would really add something to a new Mario Maker game. Or make a new Mario Paint possible, which I would love to see.

I can already hear the cries of "how am I supposed to use a mouse when I'm lying on my back playing in bed?" and I'm telling you now I'm going to use the laughing emoji on those comments.

It's a cool idea and i like the concept but it looks extremely uncomfortable from what little we've seen of it. I hope it isn't a cheap piece of plastic that's small in ur hands because if so then i don't see alot of people using it. Nintendo has a habit of making devices built for kid hands which sucks. If they build it correctly then it could be a cool concept.

PBR want even close to be standard on 7th gen even do it was capable of, just limited by memory imo. It is standard on current Switch from day 1 tho.

MK8 had all of that at 60 fps, I really don't see Switch 2 not being capable since even BOTW use them extensively and that is a very complex and extensive open world game.

Kids who are playing this kind of games dont care about that shit, they just play and have fun....

Yeah, I mean, kids can have extremely fun with three pieces of Lego. I don't think I ever reflected on the graphics of games until I was around 12 and thought some levels in THPS3 were insanely gorgeous. I'd grown up with anything from NES to Amiga to PS to GameWatch to DOS and had a blast with everything no matter what it looked like. I think it's great that Nintendo is taking this graphically less demanding route and actually produces games. The resolution and fps hunting is fun for grown ups, but nearly meaningless to kids.

It'll be a win even if all it does it get everyone to not-turn-off mouse feature in games that had it already, at least for me.

He's a game developer, he knows better, but...

I don't share his obsession with the new proximity sensor. It looks gimmick as hell, needless to say nobody seats at the table to play,
except extincting pc-minorities !

Damn, this guy is speaking so slowly that's stressing me, had to watch this fill video of 12+ minutes at almost 2x speed. This video is so "empty".

On the topic, I would have been much more amazed if Switch 2 featured back a glorious glasses free 3D screen with a backward compatibility of all 3DS catalog.

Switch 1 has to fake a lot of shit to look as good as it does. Switch 2 doesn't have to fake it and can potentially do a great deal more.

Same story for virtually every next-gen console.

And of course that means shit will also be faked on Switch 2 to push its envelope.

I'm curious why Nintendo didn't make something like this:

I was all about this when Johnny whatsit did it using a Wii remote back in the day.

I guess the downside will always be that it's limited to one person at a time. Would work great in handheld mode, but for local multiplayer (unless you have it in split screen with each part tracking and reacting to one set of eyes) it's always going to look great for one person and completely off for everyone else.

Maybe Nintendo's focus on local multiplayer experiences is what's keeping them from making this standard.

EDIT: Same goes for glasses-free 3D screens.

Yeah, and now they ll finally be able to load some decent texture into their games and high res in order to make all these effects visible, it just took them almost 2 decades.

For their open world games? Sure, most of their most limited scope games have great textures like SM3DW, Luigi's Mansion 3, etc.

Did you know Switch first party games have textures beyond anything on PS360 right? Hell, even Wii U, it's not even funny... Except for some games due to scope priorities.

You are correct, look at this, i cant imagine ps360 both consoles of mid 00' loading this high quality textures and assets from a 2017 console.

This game below for example is shit compared to what switch and Wii U had to offer in scope

You're right, they wouldn't load more than double the size of textures their memories allow, even if they were at the low res shown in the TLOU screenshot, let alone around the 2 GB TOTK might use
