New Mario Kart game revealed (Switch 2)

The power is there, this game just might be actually crossgen. No DLSS or temporal antialiasing whatsoever, that's Switch 1 signature.
I doubt Switch 1 can run 24 racers. Besides this game is meant to sell Switch 2 hardware. But don't expect DLSS to be used in many 60fps games. And certainly none of the lastest DLSS4 stuff as it's even more expensive to run.

What valid points? Nintendo showed the console and had Mario kart running in the background they didn’t even focus on it just something running in the tv as they focused on the hardware. They havent said shit about anything yet, that’s what the April direct is for to go into detail over what it can actually do and what games are coming and yet here we are people not knowing anything and making shit up or guessing and stating it as facts. It’s going to be copium & misinformation on here till April.
Let's wait for April to see what we already know they will show on top of old ports.

Again, lackluster reveal and yawn worthy showcase of a game we've been playing but now the nose hairs have speed tree tech and bottoms have jiggle physics powers by Havoc. And the exhaust had rust details and springs you won't be paying attention to during gameplay.
Weird take considering the one thing people have been hammering the game for is the lack of visual/next-gem improvements.

The selling point will, as with any Nintendo game, be the gameplay changes. Which I’m sure will be plentiful considering they’ve already teased 24 players.

It will be ok in April, I'm very disappointing reveal and showcase of this game. At least we have the other Superior handhelds. Thank God for that

Their source a tiny zoomed in portion of a compressed YouTube video. Lol it’s going to be a wild time.

Yeah it doesn't make any sense and I laughed at that but the reveal was lame so Nintendo deserves a few eggs thrown, even if they're just eggs. Better to let them air out all the jokes and bide time for April.

IMO they reacted to leaks. I don't think they planned "an update from Nintendo" months in advance. Bizarre reveal. From their point of view of knowing the info was already out, their frame of mind makes sense. But it would have been better to project that they weren't affected by it.

Since we also know it will not be launched very soon, with more info coming in April. It can very easily go to holiday season. It's unlikely they planned for 1/16 in that case. The original reveal date may even have been April, with all the planning for it and preorders prepared before deciding to do this. Just my take.
It seems to me like all the timing seems to point to a May/June launch. With the Direct in early April giving all the launch details and launch software, and pre-orders going up. 6-8 weeks later is the launch. All seems to line up with that. In which case January is perfect to do the initial reveal and build up the buzz heading into the spring. The April Direct is just taking the spot of the big Switch presentation they held in January 2017, so it’s really just a 90 day difference, when you think about it.

There’s simply no way it launches in the fall. I don’t see anything pointing to that. If it did, they surely wouldn’t be holding a Switch 2 focused Direct on April 2nd. It would be in like September.

And they’ve said all along since early May last year that they’d annnounce the thing before end of March. January I’m thinking was always the plan. They just needed to get through the holiday season first. That’s my take.

Except there's not even TAA in use here, nothing about this showing makes sense.

Why did Furukawa say they would reveal Switch 1 by March 31? That is the last day of their fiscal year, and their intent was to let Switch 1 coast as long as possible to pad those financial results before letting the cat out of the bag. (No wonder there is talk that internally, they're PISSED)

I have two trains of thought, one that they have utterly no motivation to launch a system without a holiday unless they're recovering from a disaster. The other is that, now that they've tried it, they don't think the "one, two punch" strategy is that bad, launching with one mega title and then dropping another November to snowball momentum.

Here's the equalizer. We already shot past Q1/2, and summer is regarded as a good time to release a blockbuster movie, but not really drop a game. Gonna drop the whole system in summer? Bold....believe me I hope we get it earlier, but my gut feeling is be ready to wait.

I'm thinking it's coming out on 4.4 like Switch's 3.3. MKX as a launch title then Mario in the holidays, again same as Switch.

I'm fine with the visuals as long as it's targeting 4K docked, and perhaps even 120fps. Nintendo recently updated one of their internally used engines, Bezel Engine, to support up to 240fps.

High framerate Mario is coming.

I doubt we are getting 120, but Nintendo needs its flagship games to look not-dogshit on the 4k TVs in most living rooms now, or they have failed.

So coming out the same day as the hands-on event? When will they tell us? Is this a Sega Saturn? Edit: it seems weird to have hands-on hype up event the same day you can go to the store and buy it. It reads more of a preorder start day.

Sorry mega skeptical on this one. Prove me wrong, because I want a NS2!

I really hope they flesh this one out with more singleplayer content. Even just a missions mode or something like on DS. Mario Kart 8 is so incredibly sparse in that regard.
Yeah what they did on DS was good. Hopefully there's something like that.
Thing is, what we saw in here were not even shinier graphics... Really, let's wait for April, this reveal was super rushed.

They will have this date planned for quite a while. They needed to announce it now so that:

1. They can talk about it in their next investor day on 4 Feb
2. They can open registration for the hands on events
3. Third parties can talk about their games

Mayyyyybe this video got brought forward a week or so, but I think releasing this video was always the plan.

They'll do a reveal video, then 3 months later a showcase, then 2 months of hands on events followed by the launch. Pretty much the same as what they did with the Switch.

Nintendo did and does hands-on events for Switch during its time, I don't think it's that out there. Also, it's not like there's something people haven't seen before with it.

I hope I'm right as well, cause I want one. otherwise it'll be a long wait.

I just had a sudden rise of vigor to play a Switch game when I realized I should start finishing my backlog before 2 comes out.

Then I remembered things could play better on 2 and went back to talking about games on forums...it's been a loooooong wait Hyrule Warriors 💀

The event is on April 2nd. But yeah, I also very much doubt that.

MK9 vs MK8D based on youtube screen capture.

Since second 1that they show the game i knew it was a new Mario Kart game, even with the shitty quality i noticed the improvement.

Yeah thanks, I realized I wasn't thinking and there are actually different date ranges for events all over the US near the same time actually. But didn't really change anything so...

So they had to redesign Donkey Kong, because otherwise people couldn’t tell what has changed? It just looks like 8, sure there will be some kind of twist probably, but considering how old 8 is and that it was released originally on Wii U, this is very disappointing.

Alexios

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Lol @ the usual (internally frothing) haters doubting Nintendo, the spec won't be anywhere near stationary consoles but they make beautiful games. MK8 looks superb (except for some DLC course pack that doesn't have the same attention to detail, remastered from the mobile game or something).

Folks will be eating crow and the only retort will be "well it didn't sell as much as Switch 1 so there, what a fail" or something, which somehow doesn't work for every PS after 2 because high price, because digital, because because they just have to win every time because I love them & lust them ok?

Super Mario Galaxy from the freaking Wii still looks rad. I hope we get a sequel to this little gem.

So we might have 24 playable characters visible in the trailer it seems:

Baby Daisy
Baby Luigi
Baby Mario
Baby Peach
Baby Rosalina
Birdo
Bowser
Bowser Jr.
Daisy
Donkey Kong
Dry Bones
King Boo
Koopa Troopa
Luigi
Mario
Pauline
Peach
Rosalina
Shy Guy
Toad
Toadette
Waluigi
Wario
Yoshi

Comparatively Mario Kart 8, pre DLC, had 30 characters in total. The roster for this will be very meaty I’d imagine.

Also, apparently Rosalina is driving some kind of snow crawler with skis in the footage..

Seems like there might potentially be a lot more kart customization in this one. Not sure how I feel about that.

Yeah that's a snow mobile. Perhaps we'll have courses that demands different vehicles, snowy mountains, sand dunes etc. Off road karting, that's something we haven't had previously.

We simply need to see a whole lot more to truly be able to judge it. But yeah, my first impression of that very brief part isn't super positive. I really wonder what the brand new feature is going to be.

Why can't they just turn MK into DKR? Boats, cars, planes. Would be awesome. Let's hope the full trailer and/or footage does show a significant improvement over 8.

The thing is, if it wasn’t coming before Fall, we’d get the big Direct/ software showcase in August for September, not April 2nd. And all the Switch 2 mall stops or whatever are all timed to end by June as well. Seems pretty clear their intent is May release, maybe early June. But I’m assuming May right before Memorial Day

I'm not going to purposely troll and be completely irrational but some of the drive-by posts actually make sense. Despite me not wanting to necessarily throw purposeful bait, you have to admit this wasn't in the reveal that it could be no matter how many views or anecdotal evidence you have from your inner circle of friends or places that happen to agree with you.

They are going to have more to show but again, if it's just going to be more ports kind of like what we've had in terms of the sloppy seconds come to their pass consoles, then this will be another console that people champion because of the Nintendo exclusives which do have a tendency to be repetitive like any other sequel. What I'm trying to say is that for those that criticize sequels, ports, or remasters, they have to reflect internally and realize Nintendo is the master at that as well.

And that doesn't create added value to me when the gaming landscape changes and despite people wanting their precious company to be what it was during their heyday, we have to admit that Nintendo isn't the company used to be no matter what your children think.

Nintendo's best days are far behind them. And while they are not creatively bankrupt, let's not pretend that they haven't had some of the same things other competitors do reflect on them as well.

That's why it's fair to say that if you're going to criticize direct competition like sony, which is fair, you have to not give a pass because it's the Almighty nintendo.

They have that Disney thing going especially for the kids but that doesn't stop somebody from objectively being able to say that things haven't changed for gaming's Disney as well. I'm thankful that Nintendo isn't woke but that doesn't mean anything when it's just as much of a turn off to have a console which doesn't deliver a complete experience unless you're a fan of children type games like Nintendo make. Nothing wrong with that but that doesn't make it the best system or something the champion automatically just because it says Nintendo on the box.

Things will get better Nintendo fans, maybe when you see the sales and people can hide behind that as if that will erase anything that it said. I'd like to see a little bit more and honestly I'm also looking forward to the competition on the other consoles and the future PC handhelds which will run circles around this hardware

Let us pray

What are you talking about? No one thought Killzone Shadowfall could be done on PS3 and they were right.

what am I talking about? You need to revisit majority of reactions during ps4 and Xbox one reveals. Your memory zeroing on SF - You’re right about shadow fall. I’m sure we will see some switch 2 games when they are actually shown off that will garner similar reactions.

But majority of games at that time were “oh that’s it” type of reaction. For example cod ghosts

sure doesn`t look like a game running on ~ps4 equivalent hardware.

Nintendo nintendoing.

I'm of the opinion that if Nintendo ever did anything for the PS4 or PS5 people would still be pissed at Nintendo for not using all that power.

Nintendo will do what they want at whatever level they want.
