New Mario Kart game revealed (Switch 2)

Don't care at all. The last Mario Kart I liked was MK64, which I still play occasionally.
What I'm really looking forward to is a brand new, innovative Super Mario game.
You don't like paying for the same game over and over and over again until you're 6ft underground?! The horror!!

This game better have a unique hook or the Nintendo fanboys willl tear Nintendo a new one.

I thought it might be the "BOTW style" cross gen title at first glance, as a Switch 1 game they finished and sat on forever, but the more it settles, I don't really believe it. 24 players?
Yeah, breath of the wild is sort of a special case, though. I mean because nobody owned the Wii U, and there were certainly no risk of sales by selling something on the Wii U instead. Switch and BotW sold nearly 1:1 at launch. Anyone like me with a Wii U was all in on BotW and Switch. At least it seemed that way to me.

Nah, Mario kart is a very casual-friendly game. Kids eat it up. It’s not hard-core Nintendo fans that are carrying Mario kart as a series. Not to mention, there certainly aren’t ~72 million “hard-core Nintendo fans”. The success that series has had on Wii, DS and Switch is mostly attributable to full-on mainstream success, with anybody/everybody that plays video games.

How dare you call Nintendo fans "casual". They're about to rip you a new one.

Mom just catching up with everything but I'm not exactly excited to play the same Nintendo games with shiny your graphics. It better handle this correctly or else they will not be the same position they were with all this other competition out. I love Mario kart but in slightly better graphics and 4k, there better be more to it than just the same old same old and that goes for a lot of their IP
Thing is, what we saw in here were not even shinier graphics... Really, let's wait for April, this reveal was super rushed.

It was? Says who? They’ve been planning it for months. I don’t think anything Nintendo does is rushed. The company’s whole culture is centered around managing expectations.

Pretty boring reveal, just like the console itself.
I'm sure there will be more to it just like there was way more to Mario Odyssey than what we say in the brief glimpse we got with the Switch 1 reveal.

But there is nothing to go on here other than "there is a new Mario Kart". It's not showing any new gimmicks that will set this entry apart, and it doesn't even look graphically impressive compared to the 11 years old MK8

This has happened twice, also Twilight Princess. Of course the situation was different then too. Also Nintendo had committed to release the game on the old platforms and would be reneging on the promise. They take that seriously. This is an unannounced game and can do whatever they want.

Those who call it "basic business sense" to do cross-gen. Nintendo has until now considered basic business the opposite, always has been. When they do crossgen, it feels like a circumstantial arm twist because they cornered themselves. So any change here would be a direct 180 from a classic Yamauchi quote of how they operate. I don't believe it's changing.

It will most likely continue to be an effective strategy. Those who say techniques like cross-gen and going multi-plat are getting more necessary than ever, will be exasperated when Nintendo has smashing success without those strategies, while suggesting it's "basic business sense" to take on those of their competitors despite having superior margins already. Copying Sony is something I would do to make my margins more like theirs (smaller).

I would propose that Sony take a look at what Nintendo is doing (what they themselves did to build the Playstation brand).

Exactly right. I think the situation with twilight princess, and again with breath of the wild was that they were late-gen games that were promised to come to the system and they couldn’t possibly go back on that. Whereas people that are thinking this new Mario kart game is somehow going to work on the old system too, that’s just beyond Hopium. 😂. It just ain’t gonna happen. 95% of Nintendo‘s business is the integrated hardware software platform business. There’s no way they make the big new flagship Mario kart game work on the old one. Like I said to someone else in a previous post, it would be like making Mario kart 64 also work on Super Nintendo with the logic being “Well, a lot of people already own this one, so it just makes sense”. It’s just not how it works.

ns regardless of the enormous install base of the switch, people will buy the switch 2 because they want experiences like the new Mario kart. For that reason alone, there was never any question it wouldn’t be a next-gen exclusive. Same with the next 3D Mario, next Smash, and on down the line. It’s just weird to see people thinking it might be cross-gen. I’m just sure that isn’t going to happen.

It was mostly knee-jerk cope from how lame it looked: MK again. As the dust settles, reality sets in.

I was teetering on whether this would be another "special case" crossgen game with other very strong exclusive software, but with 24 players...

looks like Mario kart and I’m sure it will be fun. Graphically it looks a little underwhelming compared to what I expected. We’ll see how the official trailers look in 4K.

With 24 drivers per race I hope the character selection is extensive. I want the Donkey Kong characters get as much love as Tour did. All I really want is Dixie alongside Diddy and DK but happy to have Funky and Cranky as well.

It definitely will be an exclusive. It is also very PlayStation/Xbox style thinking to consider Mario Kart 9 as a launch game and needing the sales on Switch 1 for profit. It's not intended to get people to buy a Switch 2 just at launch -- it's intended to get people to buy a Switch 2 every year for the next 7 or 8 years just like its predecessor did.

Posting the Americanized artwork for the overseas release of the game isn't exactly helping your point.
You're cooked man, if quotes from the fucking character's creator and pictures of it doesn't do it for you either you're retarded or just trolling.

It's just a shitty design (the MK rendition, not the movie one in general), what else? Telling me "b-but it's just like the original one" does nothing when I can easily look for this.

Looks like a Wi U game
They are running this on the WiiU emulator included with the switch 2.

You can put in “I’m a salty child” mode and it makes all the games look like they did on the WiiU.

They also have classic NES, SNES, N64, GAMECUBE modes, and of course they will have the Switch mode, which apparently (according to some folks) is the worst gaming machine to have ever released (lul).

You know, to be fair, i don't know how the visuals of Mario Kart 8 can be improved other than making it higher resolution, perfecting IQ, or adding more objects to the tracks for even denser detail (which isn't something you can see in this particular barren showcase track).

They would have to make it look like a legit CGI movie in order to make a noticeable difference and i don't know what it takes to reach that.

Am I the only one that would prefer a Diddy Kong Racing 2 with an expended adventure mode?
You don't need Diddy Kong Racing for that. They could make a similar adventure mode in Mario Kart.

Personally, i'm not a huge fan. It was an OK idea and fun for awhile but an exploration adventure with the same vehicle physics was always meh for me.

I feel the same for all those open world racing games such as Forza Horizon. I don't like driving all the way to the race track in order to start a race. Just give me a bunch of different looking tracks in a menu, that's all i need from a racing game.

This looks like a cross-gen game, very minor visual improvements. This + waiting all the way until April to unveil? Not getting a good feeling. Maybe they really are gonna cross-gen and coast for a 2-3 years.

There is 0% chance Mario Kart will be cross gen. You do understand that they want to sell a new system right?

I'd agree with you if the game didn't look so similar to MK8. There is no excuse for this, unless it's cross-gen. This isn't a GameCube to Wii scenario, or Wii U to Switch. The Switch 2 (unless all the leaks are wrong) is a generational leap from Switch 1. On top of this, they have had over 10 years to make this game.

Smash Ultimate was a solid visual improvement over Wii U, despite the power similarities of the consoles. This... Is not even at that level.

So it's either the Switch 2 is way, way weaker than thought, or MK9 is cross-gen, or a combination of both.

How about you just wait and see how the game turns out? They have barely even shown it seriously. We all know that when it comes to Mario Kart, Nintendo is always pulling their weight.

Surely there's much more to this game then what you just saw. Nintendo always delivers.

We've entered the sub PS4 era for Nintendo folks. This thing will get destroyed by any new handheld PC.

Again, lackluster reveal and yawn worthy showcase of a game we've been playing but now the nose hairs have speed tree tech and bottoms have jiggle physics powers by Havoc. And the exhaust had rust details and springs you won't be paying attention to during gameplay.

Can you tell it's not that impressive? Maybe if they show more games but as I said, people who want s portable fix have superior options out now and the newer ones will walk circles around this already outdated Switch 2 tech. But I guess if it's new to Nintendo fans it's innovation akin to Apple loyalists.

Handheld pcs are ultra niche novelties at best. None of them will ever reach the sales of even a switch lite let alone the newest one.

Lol points for trying to hype pc handhelds though.

It doesn't stop this reveal and rehash from being valid points

At least a proper SW showcase would do better but people who are loyalists till the end are already drinking the coolaid before any sugar has even been added and loving it like McDonalds.

IMO they reacted to leaks. I don't think they planned "an update from Nintendo" months in advance. Bizarre reveal. From their point of view of knowing the info was already out, their frame of mind makes sense. But it would have been better to project that they weren't affected by it.

Since we also know it will not be launched very soon, with more info coming in April. It can very easily go to holiday season. It's unlikely they planned for 1/16 in that case. The original reveal date may even have been April, with all the planning for it and preorders prepared before deciding to do this. Just my take.

What valid points? Nintendo showed the console and had Mario kart running in the background they didn’t even focus on it just something running in the tv as they focused on the hardware. They havent said shit about anything yet, that’s what the April direct is for to go into detail over what it can actually do and what games are coming and yet here we are people not knowing anything and making shit up or guessing and stating it as facts. It’s going to be copium & misinformation on here till April.
