New Mario Kart game revealed (Switch 2)

Mario kart? If Nintendo wants to sell switch 2s, that game will not be cross-gen, not if it’s a launch window title. Which I assume it is.
That is the assumption, but seeing this game not using even TAA makes me doubt it will be exclusive. If it is, they are just phoning in everything because this will run on the TX1 just fine.

If there is indeed 24 players all simultaneously spewing items at each other I could see the framerate come to a halt on Switch 1.

But then again I’m pretty clueless about the technical stuff.

Wasn't the previous design safe and global enough to not alienate anyone? Why are they changing it to the Americanized as fuck one from the movie?

you can easily see the difference even with the shitty quality.
The problem is that MK8D looks absurdly good, there were people that didn't believe the game was running on the Wii U, even less that it was 60 fps... And let's be honest, MK8 is one of the best looking games on Switch and one of the most visually pleasing game ever

Everybody is assuming 24 players but only reporting that 12 total were seen. There are actually 14 racers in this video. I paused on frames 1-3 when Mario Kart is first shown, and there are two additional racers no one seems to be talking about.

So we’re definitely getting more than 12. 24 seems very likely now.

Now it’s just a video of a video but the game doesn’t look sharp or crisp to me, looks blurry like the background is compensating for lack of power. Also thought I saw some jaggies. Hope it’s not representative of final version.

Also looks like there is no HDR support?

Don't care at all. The last Mario Kart I liked was MK64, which I still play occasionally.
What I'm really looking forward to is a brand new, innovative Super Mario game.

100% cross play you think they leaving 100 million plus install base behind?? lol
Ain’t norway the OG Switch could handle 24 racers at once. That’s double the amount in MK8. And since the Switch 2 is basically two Switches duct taped together, mathematically it must be an exclusive. 🧠

The Switch 2 is gonna sell regardless. You will find that out the hard way when you attempt to get one when preorders go live.
Software drives hardware. They need as much people on S2 as possible. Nintendo wants to move the audience to S2. They have done this before. So no, this game won't be multiplatform. That would be extremely stupid.

Why was the DK look changed to look like the movie and the Mario characters aren’t changed at all? 🤔

That’s so odd

The "new" DK design is based on Miyamoto's original design for the arcade game. The "old" design was made by Steve Mayles at Rare for Donkey Kong Country.

Here is what Miyamoto said during the movie press tour:
"It's been over 40 years since the release of the original Donkey Kong game, which was also my debut title," explained Miyamoto. "We've also changed his design for the first time since he became a 3D Model in the original Donkey Kong Country game. For this movie, we seized the opportunity to give him a comical personality and design reminiscent of the original character."

Meaningless remarks when these just look nothing alike.

I get that. But everyone is used to the design it’s been since the mid 1990s. I’m simply pointing out that they haven’t altered the design of any other characters because of the movie, as to how they appear in new games. It’s just DK. That character out of all the others was singled out and changed.

I can’t imagine the flagship game they used to announce the new console isn’t an exclusive. that would be counterproductive to selling the new system. That would be pretty wild to be like “oh never mind you don’t need to switch 2 for this game”. It’s exclusive for sure

From the offscreen they showed I can tell it's running at 34FPS, with no RT, or DLSS, and looks to me like they turned of FUDD.

Mom just catching up with everything but I'm not exactly excited to play the same Nintendo games with shiny your graphics. It better handle this correctly or else they will not be the same position they were with all this other competition out. I love Mario kart but in slightly better graphics and 4k, there better be more to it than just the same old same old and that goes for a lot of their IP

So the first game they announce alongside the launch of a new console, isn’t even an exclusive? The game they used to showcase the new system can be bought on the old one? Yikes. That would be a pretty wild thing to happen. That would be like making Mario kart 64 available on Super Nintendo, “because well, people already had one.” Like, I get your logic, but it doesn’t apply when the goal is to sell people the new system and have people upgrade from the previous one.

If the goal is to give people reasons to buy Switch 2, and upgrade from the original, then this game by definition cannot be cross platform. I assume that’s the goal, call me crazy 🤷‍♂️

I can tell you I'm gonna need to see some dungeons in my Zelda this time or we gonna have a problem.

I thought it might be the "BOTW style" cross gen title at first glance, as a Switch 1 game they finished and sat on forever, but the more it settles, I don't really believe it. 24 players?

You make a good point man and I love Nintendo in their hay day but damn, they just can't get a free pass from me and I fell into the we height but it's fantastic that they've made some advancements but this is a big nothing burger. You know what's going to sell and people are going to defend this to blue in the face but just like the Joe Biden administration, let's not ignore the elephants in the room and pretend that this is perfect.
