Game Developers celebrating assassination of Charlie Kirk [Update] Sucker Punch Dev Fired, and SP issue statement

I think we're aligned as a studio that celebrating or making light of someone's murder is a deal-breaker for us, and we condemn that, kind of in no uncertain terms. That's sort of our studio, and that's kind of where we are."

I said I was curious how you weigh a person's 10-year run at a studio against a social media post, but a rep for Sony who was present for the interview (that's normal) said they wouldn't be commenting further.

We moved on.

"No uncertain terms," he says.

What a disappointment.

I'll just say it. I don't believe him.

Curb Your Enthusiasm Bingo GIF by Jason Clarke

Yes.

They said terrorists and I think that means "terrorist's" meaning some of the workers / actors?

Pretty sure it is due to Antifa being designated a terrorist organization and the voice actress who said she was antifa five years ago. I don't agree with retroactively applying a "terrorist" label if that's what is being said.

But I could have misunderstood.

I think "terrorist studio" is too far

(1) voice actress is a member of a terrorist organization

(2) encouragement of murder of political opponents

(3) comes out with a BS non apology apology only firing one of the terrorists not all

If it looks like one talks like one acts like one….

She said she was antifa five years ago, five years before Trump designated them as such. That does not carry over to every single company or studio that she has ever worked with.

If you want to think it does then that's up to you, obviously. I'm just not going to engage with it further.

Many here are not calculating the data. Sony/PlayStation Studios has a huge margin of liberals. Including those who have already made money for Sony like Neil Cuckman..... Sony/PlayStation games studios are pretty much California based....ooof.... thats BIF FUCKING RIP imo Especially today, information on the internet flows at the speed of light

Don't care what SP or Sony mouthpieces say. I've heard enough already to know what the culture is like. Management usually has no idea what ground-level people are thinking or saying anyway. Any "apologies" are just political, businesses moves, motivated by a desire to maintain an image. i.e., bullshit.

Too bad. I enjoyed Sly Cooper when I was younger. But that was a different time.

hes more reliable than jizz or is not ? he just talk what ppl has said on tweets or that bluethingy

I wouldn't necessarily call the guy who was busted by a fake email from someone pretending to be a Ubisoft employee "reliable". He's just a guy with an opinion like everyone else. Having a youtube channel doesn't make anyone an authority.

terrorism - the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims

ANTIFA has been using violence/intimidation for political gain LONG before last week long before 5 years ago

You can be a terrorist organization without Trump declaring you so

People already forgetting that alot of Game Developers at Sucker Punch liked the Tweet from Drew!

Drew is not the only Problem who is still working for Sucker Punch on Ghost of Yotei!!!

Well, someone can fact check me on this.

Antifa has been designated a terrorist organization. Sucker punch employs a known terrorist. Sony owns sucker punch.

To me, if what I stated above is accurate, Sucker Punch, and as Sony is the parent company, both openly support terrorism, so to say they are a terrorist studio, would be factually correct.

I dont think they employ her so much as contracted her to make voice acting? Or face scan ? .. i dont think she is a permanent hire.

Could be wrong though

Anyway antifa was designated a terror group five days ago... I think a lot of posers will jump out now.

Voice Actors are not employees, they're not permanent workers.

Contract workers.

If someone "openly supports" terrorism then they would flat out say "we support terrorism" so there is nothing factual about it.

And she is not employed by Sucker Punch. But if you want to say anyone who ever gave her work is now a terrorist organization then that's up to you.

By your logic, all these companies are terrorists...

Square Enix
Activision
Bethesda
Microsoft
EA
Bungie
Guerrilla Games
Halo Studios

Terrorists? Come on. Pieces of shit? Definitely. They fucking picked that activist cunt. That was a deliberate choice. They could have picked so many other women, but they had to pick "her". Some of you must be very desperate to play the latest game or are such huge fans of the first game, you just gotta have the sequel. Go ahead, consume. I won't stop you. But damn, they also hate you for being a consumer. Personally, I am tired of buying and supporting people who hate everything about me. They are such hypocrites. They hate capitalism, yet they demand so much from it. They demand we pay a high price for their game so they can get paid way more than they are worth. They think they can do make whatever slop they want, and they expect you to buy it. Stop giving these activists what they want. Let's call it No Yotei October. Don't buy it. Watch them sweat. Make them beg.

It wasn't Kotaku. Game File

I figured Fleming wouldn't talk about the firing, that I'd get a no comment. But on September 12, the political and corporate reaction to people's reactions to Kirk's killing was becoming a major story—even more the case this week, as it'd turn out. I couldn't not ask about it.

"The facts are accurate," Fleming told me.

"Drew's no longer an employee here. I think we're aligned as a studio that celebrating or making light of someone's murder is a deal-breaker for us, and we condemn that, kind of in no uncertain terms. That's sort of our studio, and that's kind of where we are."

"A spokesperson for the company declined to comment when asked if anyone had been fired from Microsoft following these investigations."
