New episode tonight.
The Ghost of Harrenhal

The end of the Baratheon rivalry drives Catelyn to flee and Littlefinger to act. At King’s Landing, Tyrion’s source alerts him to Joffrey’s flawed defense plan and a mysterious secret weapon. Theon sails to the Stony Shore to prove he’s worthy to be called Ironborn. In Harrenhal, Arya receives a promise from Jaqen H’ghar, one of three prisoners she saved from the Gold Cloaks. The Night’s Watch arrive at the Fist of the First Men, an ancient fortress where they hope to stem the advance of the wildling army.

I hopw they put the fist of the first men in the opening :3

Yeah, it's annoying see the Wall every episode when they're nowhere near it. Nearly as annoying as Vaes Dothrak, but that ship sailed last week. What I didn't get was why they showed Winterfell and Pyke in the last episode... seems rather inconsistent.

Then don't watch it with mother dearest, that or its time to have a more honest relationship with her - one where a tit on TV won't make things awkward. Is this an American thing? Are there "international" GoT viewers who are scandalized by the show's nudity and sexual situations?

The thing is that for a lot of us, the show would be perfect for watching with Dear Old Dad if not for the unnecessary sex scenes.

There is a lot to like about this series (or we wouldn't be here, right?). But its appeal could be broader if the showrunners didn't go out of their way to include gratuitous sexual content that serves no purpose.

My dad loves Lord of the Rings, King Arthur, etc. Yet he doesn't watch this series with me. There's a reason for that, and it's kind of a damn shame.

Are you guys seriously going to circle back this this same conversation every other page?

Are we still going to be discussing the merits of the sex in the show almost exclusively based on the finger bang episode in season 1 even when we hit season 5, or will we have moved on by then?

I'll raise you one. Who invented the term sexposition? I say it was BenjaminBirdie, and any blogger who tries to claim credit for it should be exposed for the hack he is.

I think we really just need to get to a point where we "agree to disagree" about the sex in this show. It feels like I've had to skim past walls of text containing the same arguments over and over for weeks now. :/

Watch that will be [ASOS]
the one scene where they are like "alright lets keep it classy and short, no sexposition." I will then throw my remote at the television.

It's because u people raised the bar for Dany. She gets everything so easy.
Joking about the first part, LOL

No shame there. Your dad just seems to prefer conventional fantasy. From an interview with the author himself...
How do you make decisions about the depictions of sexual violence that you include in your writing?

Well, I'm not writing about contemporary sex—it's medieval.

There's a more general question here that doesn't just affect sex or rape, and that's this whole issue of what is gratuitous? What should be depicted? I have gotten letters over the years from readers who don't like the sex, they say it's "gratuitous." I think that word gets thrown around and what it seems to mean is "I didn't like it." This person didn't want to read it, so it's gratuitous to that person. And if I'm guilty of having gratuitous sex, then I'm also guilty of having gratuitous violence, and gratuitous feasting, and gratuitous description of clothes, and gratuitous heraldry, because very little of this is necessary to advance the plot. But my philosophy is that plot advancement is not what the experience of reading fiction is about. If all we care about is advancing the plot, why read novels? We can just read Cliffs Notes.

A novel for me is an immersive experience where I feel as if I have lived it and that I've tasted the food and experienced the sex and experienced the terror of battle. So I want all of the detail, all of the sensory things—whether it's a good experience, or a bad experience, I want to put the reader through it. To that mind, detail is necessary, showing not telling is necessary, and nothing is gratuitous.

Yeah, I've brought this up before, but the locations showing up in the opening sequence is inconsistent. Kind of annoying.

It has appeared until now that King's Landing, Winterfell, and The Wall show up in every episode, regardless of if there are scenes at those locations.

The Wall might (hopefully) change tonight though.

LEGO recreation of the opening title sequence.

I love these haha. The King in the North one was awesome. RENLY IS NOT RIGHT

I would bang a hot farmer!
I'm going to my brother's house and he doesn't have HBO so I'll probably miss the first airing tonight. :(

Counting tonight I've only watched 2/5 episodes live. :(

Looking forward to see how will they shoehorn a sex scene into this episode.

This coming from the guy who thinks GoT has more gratuitous nudity than Spartacus, a show where they had a woman get her throat graphically slit as blood gushes out and pours down all over her bare tits.

The one thing I'll say on the sexposition issue is this; if an explicitly sexual scene in a good show causes discomfort for us when we view it in the presence of family members while gruesome depictions of violent swordfights and babies being killed fails to elicit reactions on anywhere near the level of the sexual content, then dare I say the problem is not with the show?

Personally, I love the way GoT challenges typical current television convention.

I don't really mind nudity anywhere you know, I was just kidding. For some reason however in GoT the nudity does feel more gratuitous to me than in Spartacus, seems more out of place. Sometimes it feels like they have to hit some sort of titty-quota every episode in GoT too, no matter what. :lol A lot of the sex scenes shown this season have been made up for the show and have rarely been of importance.

So yeah, I look forward to seeing how they shove some ass and tittes in my face tonight!

The reason they do that is to show which locations are important to the story at the time. Even if Theon isnt in that specific episode, we know Pyke is important to the story right now and we know shit is happening there. Same thing with Bran and Winterfell. Just because Pyke and Winterfell wasnt onscreen, doesnt mean they were not important to the story at this time, hence they are kept in the credits.

When it's not important to the story anymore or for an extended period of time, it gets removed. In Season 1 we had the Eyrie for episodes 5 and 6, but when Tyrion left and the "story" moved on, that location was removed.

As far as why some things get added and others not, I'm pretty sure they only want to include cities and castles.

I guess that makes sense.

You know who hasn't shown up lately? That Barristan guy from season one. He was in the gold cloaks I believe and he quit after Joffrey became king. You'd think he'd pop up in the middle of this soon to be massive war.

Ser Barristan Selmy was the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. He was dismissed by Joffrey and Queen Cersei.

Dude is probably being hunted all over Westeros for treason. He knows where he could be by now!

So I watched the first two episodes of Season 2, before I got the books, and wanted to finish the first two before I watched the rest of the season. Before I read the books I didn't understand just how hard it must have been to adapt this from a book to an 8 episode T.V. season. The only thing I feel they could have done better so far is
Bran's dreams
. Although I haven't seen past episode 2 so they could have popped up lol.
