Game soundtracks that are forever burned into your DNA

They don't necessarily have to be the best song in the world, or even a song most people have heard of..

But is there game soundtrack songs that have stuck with you so much that you'd probably have a recollection on your death bed?

You'd be fleeting away and then it'll pop in there, out of nowhere.

Here's a few of mine

Test Drive Unlimited 2.
The amount of times I've had to restart this game is biblical, so much so I think this song sent me crazy..

Diablo 2.
I guess this one was purely just for the time spent ingame

Flashback, Amiga.
This one came from being one of my most hyped games to come out in the past, especially after Another World.. and also ripping it from the disk to mess around with in OctaMED 👀

Loaded, PS1
Replaying that demo disc that came with the Playstation 1 really did a number on me, I loved it.

Dune, Amiga.
It will never leave my brain..

So, any songs stuck? Good, bad or downright stinkers?

Happy Friday all 🍻

Castlevania 4, Mass Effect trilogy, Max Payne 3, Contra 3 The Alien Wars, Tempest 2000, Life is Strange Before the Storm, Halo 1, Oxenfree.

That one is the most recurring, but it's Final Fantasy series OST in general for me. Probably because I listen to it often since childhood and have sounds and themes set as alarms/ringtones/notifications.

This one is the most recent though:

I had several:
The best ending song IMO

Feels like a call for all hunters

Dreamy feels, just like 98

Trigger lot of wondering sense of mine, the world of adventures

i have lot of them, so these are some i can recall fast

LED Storm. The Last Ninja. Shadow of the Beast. Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge. Robocod. Xenon 2. Street Fighter 2. Halo. Ori. The Last of Us. Even though modern stuff is arguably better not much really stands out to me anymore for whatever reason

Bee jam blues - Gitaroo man
Area 5 - Rez
Crash man - mega man 2
Anything from jet set radio + future
Fire fire - um jammer lammy
Dreamer - streets of rage
Sonic CD - stardust speedway

There are heaps more but I'll just cut myself off there

Oh boy! I've been waiting for a thread like this, I've got so many it's unreal.

Chrono Trigger's Corridors of Time was a banger that just sticks in your mind long after the game has come and gone

Bomberman 64's Blue Resort Theme is what I imagine any paradise would sound like it

Final Fantasy VI's Terra's Theme was a melodic start to the game after that balls to the wall introduction and set the stage for the overall theme

Donkey Kong Country 2's Bramble Blast/Stickerbrush Symphony was an out of nowhere change and had such a beautiful haunting tone

Doom there are very few songs that get my hyped and keep my interest in a game that typically would lose it's luster after the first few levels but this had such an amazing soundtrack and At Doom's Gate was an amazing take on Metallica's Master of Puppets that it kept my interest throughout the story.

I'm going to leave it at 5 and wanted to drop my most influential but can keep going if anyone wants.

Great list.
So happy to see Bomberman 64 love. Such a great soundtrack. Bomberman Hero was even better in my opinion.
Both of those are forever etched into my brain. I literally still hum them on random occasions.

Off the top of my head, memorable game soundtacks include:

Master of Magic, a £1.99 Commodore 64 Mastertronic game that had a stunning Rob Hubbard soundtrack (which was the only reason I bought the game!)

Turrican II on the Amiga, that Chris Huelsbeck title track is fantastic as is the music on the three stage

Tim Follin's title track to the Amiga version of Ghouls 'n' Ghosts (or maybe it was Ghosts 'n' Goblins?)

Banjo-Kazooie's soundtack was amazing for its time on N64, absolutely loved that.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion's soundtrack is incredible too even though a lot of the tracks feel too short and repeat a lot.

I'm generally less impressed by the technical quality of the music in games these days because what made the scores of old so incredible was the limited hardware and memory, which made the compositions all the more stunning and memorable. That's not to say that the games don't have good music now but I tend not to notice it as much as I did in the glory days of Commodore 64 and Amiga. It is also quite telling how most reviews of modern games rarely mention the music whereas it was definitely something that was covered in the reviews in Zzap! 64 magazine etc "back in the day".

Some absolutely excellent choices.

I actually made an entire thread a few years ago about a game that truly... just has one of my favorite sound tracks ever. Since its live service it's only been built on since then.

Was a traversty it wasent even nominated that year. Had fun with the thread though

The whole damn thing is perfect, and I stand by this sound track as one of the greatest ever created. Its so perfectly crafted with thought of when it appears in the title, Darktide would be half the game without the music.

Too many songs tbh

Super Mario World - Menu Theme

Megaman X4 - Cyber Peacock Stage Theme

Megaman 8 - Astro Man Stage Theme

Crash Bandicoot 2 - Water Levels Theme

Final Fantasy X - Intro Cutscene

Kingdom Hearts 2 - Opening - Sanctuary

Shadow of the Colossus - The Opened Way (One of the best soundtracks in gaming period)

Final Fantasy VII Remake - J-E-N-O-V-A Theme

I'm going old-school with my ear-worms:

Rob Hubbard is the OG.

I was thinking to stick the C64 ones up that have stuck with me but that would have gone on forever, I swear, pretty much every C64 soundtrack has been firmly etched onto my skull at this point..

Too bloody many, and then some :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I still rate it as the best time for gaming music, the effectiveness of some of the tracks sticks with you, nothing really sounds similar. Some excellent tracks came from it.

..There's so many earworms in this thread, I can hear why they stuck with you all! :messenger_sunglasses:

I need to carry on listening 👀
