Recently. Alice Madness Returns. Played that for it's art direction, got bored with the combat quickly, but kept going for the visuals

a lot of those are among my favorite games too :)

Eternal Sonata and Fragile Dreams needs mention.

Dark Souls, specifically for Ash Lake, a truly haunting place thanks to the use of color, sound and empty space.

Nice to see I was beaten to Alice. :)

Another game that instantly comes to mind is Portal 2, but I'd rather not post the images I'm tempted to as they'll spoil a significant portion of the game, so have this instead:

Additionally, I love the sleek, almost institutional look of the triple lasers test chamber:

Both images link to their respective original sizes.

I'm also going to cheat and say, "pretty much every Valve game".

Edit: For those wondering - and don't unmask this if you've yet to play the game - I wanted to post
a bunch of images from the various sections of yesteryear Aperture Science
.

Apparently I need to get Dark Souls, looks about my speed for visuals I like.

I like Darksiders, even though it is ridiculous and over the top (which is totally the kind of art I enjoy).

Zelda: The Wind Waker - It has already been mentioned, but it was my first thought:

GTA IV - I know GAF doesn't always love the game, but the art direction was amazing.

Mirror's Edge, where realism meets color.

*snipped images*

I find myself wondering if there was an artistic vision for Mirror's Edge that made it superb, or if they stumbled into brilliance after realizing how profound their "use color to point the way" scheme ended up being.

Not trying to knock them at all; Mirror's Edge was absolutely breathtaking in a surreal kind of way.

I love all of these in this thread, but is it really bad to say Uncharted 2 and 3? Yes they're realistic but the art design is beautiful!

I know the series has it's haters but it's art design is difficult to fault.

Besides the ones that have already been mentioned...

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask
Metroid Prime
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Rayman (all of them)
Mischief Makers
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon/Goemon's Great Adventure
Earthbound
Valkyrie Profile
Katamari Damacy
Little King's Story
Almost anything from Rare

I love this thread already. Total eyegasm.

What's with all the "list" threads today?

Anyways, I'd say Metroid Prime, Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Bayonetta are ones that pop up in my head.

Too bad the game sucked ass. I want my PoP reboot.[/QUOTE]

A sequel with better combat, better characters and harder difficulty and would be my dream game. I want to go back to that world so badly.

Muramasa: the demon blade was the first game to come to mind.

Also:

-Uncharted 2
-Demons/Dark Souls
-Panzer Dragoon series
-Tales of Vesperia
-Dragons Crown
-ICO/SotC
-Halo 3

Final Fantasy VIII's art direction is my overall favorite for the whole series

although a remake of FFVI using an Amano designed steampunk/NeoVictorian style would likely top it. :D
