Games you remember, names you don't

I remember this game on NES that was a 2 player game. It seemed like a mario game (actually not at all, just I remember the main guy was red suited and the other was either green or blue).

It was a shooting game but it wasn't contra. It was like a birds eye view game with tanks and shit.

That game was awesome.

Ikari Warriors?

A fairly old side scrolling arcade brawler.

One of the early levels consisted of a train station. You would basically go in and out of trains beating the snot out of guys. One of the bad dudes in those black leather caps/chaps (think village people dude) would basically come behind your character and dry hump them while making a cringe worthy sound effect. It scared me as a kid. Would love to know the name of the game.

Two games i remember playing on my ZX Spectrum..

One had an isometric perspective, there were some buildings like a labyrinth maybe.. and some giant ants. Unfortunately that's abut all i remember :(

The other game had you control a dragon and you were flying around; it was a side scrolling game. Again, i don't remember much details either :(

First: Ant Attack

Second: Thanatos or Saint Dragon; both fit that description (Thanatos was a more traditional dragon shape, Saint Dragon was a more sort of futuristic mecha-serpent style)

I played a pc game when I was a kid that I believe was a puzzle type game. I remember dinosaurs and a volcano and picking up trash or recycling, something along those lines. I also played a game back then that I really loved that was about saving the environment. You cleaned a bird that was covered in oil, you removed soda can plastic from an animals neck, balloon remnants from a turtles mouth. Since it was about the sea and a main character in it was a dolphin I thought for the longest time it was Ecco, but it was actually called Ecoquest. If anyone knows the name of the dinosaur game I would greatly appreciate it.

And yes it seems my parents really wanted me to be environment friendly with the games they had me playing haha.

I remember reading a guide of a game on an old magazine that I don't have anymore. I'm almost sure it was a Genesis/Mega Drive game: from the screens it looked like a top-down fantasy adventure game like Zelda, but it also had objects on the ground which seemed to have special functions, much like in a puzzle game.

I really have no idea where to look.

It's a bit of a stab in the dark - it's been a very very long time since I played it - but Soleil/Crusader of Centy?

Ant Attack and Thanatos are the ones. Thank you.

I'm not 100% sure it's the one I remember, but thanks a lot!

There's an old PC game I've been trying to remember for a while. I just did a quick sweep of this thread and didn't see it mentioned. I was doing a page search on the word "Star" as I'm fairly sure that was the first word in the title, but I could be wrong. The aesthetic is a lot like Star Control, but judging from the numerous Youtube videos I just watched of that series that can't be the right game.

The game I'm thinking of is also a top-view space shooter with a large display on the right side of the screen, much like Star Control, but I remember it having a minimap and your current x-y coordinates. You could move freely in both planes. There was a large focus on exploration as opposed to combat, and you were given missions where you needed to go to specific coordinates to protect, escort, destroy, etc.

That's all I've got. Oh yea, it was awesome. Thanks in advance for any help guys.

EDIT: Shit. Now after looking up some FAQs I probably am thinking of a Star Control game. All the Youtube links I saw just focused on the melee I guess instead of featuring the parts that really stuck with me all these years.

C64 game, set in space (on the moon or some other planet). A lot of light blue colouring and space bar was used to jump. I'm killing myself trying to remember!

PS1 game set on an Island (I think) and occasionally a little ghost of a girl would pop up and say stuff...

sorry thats all I can remember, but I remember the game being creepy!

I'm looking for a an anime-inspired aerial-combat game on the PS2. Aside from the protagonist's plane being orange, that's pretty much all I remember about it : / It *may* have been cell-shaded.

I remember this Arcade game I played when I was young (like16-17 years ago), it was a war game with top-down visuals. You had a jeep and went around the playing field on it with 2 possible attacks, rifle and missiles. You could also just run over normal soldiers to kill them. You had to literally destroy all the buildings you came around because there were prisoners inside. At set points in the levels there were places where you could release the prisoners and definitely save them. If your jeep took too much dmg you had to jump off to avoid being involved in its explosion, and continue on your feet and just with the rifle as your weapon. If you were good enough to survive and go on at set points there were a new jeep awaiting for you.
This game was fucking awesome :lol But I don't remember its name so I never found it on MAME ç_ç

Some other possibilities:

Starflight
Solar Winds

Sounds like you amalgamated Crime Fighters and it's sequel, Vendetta (Gay bikers that hump you are in this one).

Edit: My turn. Late 80's/Early 90's arcade title. Vertical scrolling action like Ikari Warriors but with melee weapons instead of guns. You had multiple characters to choose from(I think 4). One is blatantly Indiana Jones, complete with whip. Another is a guy in a white suit with a spear. You fought a bunch of monster pygmy men and and stuff like that. Arcade marquee has the game characters portrayed by real life people. That's all I can remember.

Penguin Land, perhaps?

To add to everyone else's suggestions: Pengo is another possibility.

I bet nobody can help me on this one, i had a side scrolling beat em up for my amiga 600. You started off as a guy called billy on the first level, then on each level if you died you would turn into the character for that level, if you didn't die on that level the character would roll over to the next level, other characters included a bigger guy called sonny, a karate type guy and a sumo (i think) I always thought it was a 'double dragon' game but i've never been able to find any info on it.

"Billy" and "Sonny" suggests you're talking about Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone; there's playable characters with both those names in it. It may be a coincidence, though.

At a guess - since I don't recall the "die and you get a different character" mechanic being mentioned in any of the reviews way back when - I wonder if you had a version with a trainer built in which gave you a character after death, or something?

A game on PS1.
It had a boy and his dog on the cover.
The boy was like weird inventor genius or something. (I think)
I'm also fairly certain it was a sidescroller.

It seemed really fucking cool. But I have no idea what it was.

I also think the boy may have had some weird goggles or something on the cover.
The dog was sorta like gromit, I think.

Heart of Darkness maybe ?

The game I'm thinking of is an arcade game from the late 80s/early 90s - kind of a spy / secret agent theme, and looked a little like Rolling Thunder, perhaps (side scroller). The first stage you're skydiving and shooting guys with a pistol as you fall.

Sly Spy Secret Agent :) Loved playing this on the C64 back in the day.

I have a game I can't quite remember... it was for the NES, a guy was in a Castle and he shot Bubbles, I remember a secret was that you went around the back of the Castle and dropped into the well. It was a really difficult game from what I remember...

Sounds like Milon's Secret Castle.

Trying to remember a game I played all the time on the SNES. It was a strategy game where you fired missiles from your base, over water at the enemies base (much like battleship). It has a futuristic tone.

Wooo! That's it! Been driving me nuts for a while now. There used to be a cabinet in the local mall arcade. I only played it a couple of times, and always thought it was hilarious in that first stage how bullet holes made people fall faster. Thanks!

Its not the port of Moon Patrol is it?

I was also trying to remember Solar Winds, but I couldn't remember anything about it, except that it was pretty fun and it played like asteroids. Thanks :)

That's the problem with my lost games. The memories of these games are so vague that they are almost nonexistent.

I'm still looking for an old 3D shooter game in DOS, where you could find secret passages like in DOOM and Wolfenstein 3D. It's not any of the well known games like Heretic or Rise of the Triad. I think you came across some old prisoners in chains along the way, but I'm not sure that's the same 3D game I'm thinking of.

Anything to narrow it down with? Sci-fi? Fantasy? Modern day? What kind of engine was it similar to? (Wolf3d/Doom/Build)

Fantasy or Sci-fi, definitely not modern day. I think it was more like Wolf 3D than DOOM, with flat ground.

Edit: Fantasy or Middle age sounds more right.

That soundsl like Dark Adventure by Konami actually.. if not, and I really dont think this is it, but Gain Ground, but I dont remember an Indiana Jones type of guy.

Theres a lot of games it could be.. thers like 50 or more shooters in DOS that might fit that description. If i had to take an absolute stab at it.. given you are not sure if it was fantasy or sci-fi.. and that you mention chains on the prisoners.. id say Depth Dwellers.

I asked this once before (it was some other thread I think), but didn't get an answer, so I try again.

It was a VIC20 game, so we're talking about an old game here. It was kinda like a puzzle game, but not in a traditional way. Each stage is a one-screen maze where you (the character looks like a stick figure with two frames for movement kinda like the letter x as the other frame and the other frame had the hands in different position if I remember right) simply need to get to the exit. The catch is that there's an enemy which can go through walls unlike you, so you need to distract the enemy to get to the exit. Each level makes it harder as the maze gets more difficult to navigate through, and I'm not 100% sure, but I think at one point there's even 2 of the enemies in the later stages. I also remember that each stage had different colored walls. I've been trying to find info about the game everywhere but no luck so far. It could be that it was not a "professional" made game, but it sure felt like such back in the day.

Naw, DD3 worked like that. You only had one life, but if you beat the bosses they'd join you and replaced you when/if you died. Don't remember if you could change characters manually or not though.

Hey, I think that might be it. It has slaves in chains that you can either rescue or save, and I kind of remember that blue effect when you shoot enemies with the first weapon. Very vague memories of this game, only played it one time for over ten years ago, but this must be it. Thanks a lot!

Was it called Escape?

I found this link and it lists a game that matches your description:
