Games you remember, names you don't

Sorry, should have made that clear. It was graphical. It played a bit like a point and click game I suppose

It wasn't any game I knew, but with a bit of poking around and following a few likely leads I stumbled on The Detective Game - is that it, by any chance?

YES! That's the one!! Thanks. Excellent game, with an apparently iffy title! Might have to fire up a C64 emulator to give this one a run through again.

ok, here's one. If it's answered correctly, I might not even know it because it's so muddy in my mind. All I remember is this:

- played it circa 1990-91
- was, I think, an import. I think it was played on a Famicom system, but I'm not entirely sure. Could have been anything (most certainly not a Genesis/MegaDrive though, or Super Famicom).
- was a top down shmup
- was co-op, in that two players could go at the same time
- definitely wasn't character based, so it wasn't Ikari Warriors and its ilk
- I remember some powerups and a boss, but, really, what shmup didn't.
???

You know, it's not the same, but probably I was influenced more than a bit -- after all TDG came out when I was 16.

The game I'm going to publish next week on the appstore has something in common with that -- finding evidence, questioning people stuff like that. Although Mystery Files is strictly 2D and the cases, people, etc are procedurally generated each time you start a new game.

Here's an image, meant to be a contrast to the above image and an homage to The Detective Game. Thanks for bringing back the memories. :D

2nd game should be way easier. It was a PS1 game based on Greek mythology. It had a top down view. I believe you played as hercules. The art style was definitely not something befitting the great pantheon of Greek gods. I believe there was one big overworld map and
you went around completing objectives, possibly to open up more of the world.

Herc's Adventures.

There was a game I used to play on PC when I was little, no idea of the name and my memory of it is sketchy.

I know that you had to use command prompt to start the game (well, thats how I was taught to anyway...) and that it came on a floppy disk in a big box.

The game itself was about some guy (i don't think it was a robot guy just a gun wielding dude) that had to kill things in a 2D high tech looking place.

You would have the room/area thing and then when you get to the other side it would change to another room area (not smoothly scroll but make a whole new background).

I think there were power ups and stuff but thats all I remember. (I know its not much info.. sorry!)

Also IIRC a taxi driver that we knew gave it to me...:lol but we don't know him or anything about him anymore

Anyway if anyone has any suggestions on what this game could be/is then that would be so damn awesome! I did try looking before but I quickly gave up hope so I hope this thread will reunite me :D

Since my wild guesses have been doing quite well lately, I'll have another go:

Well, this isn't helpful, but I'm sure I've played a Rome game that was just like that, quite possibly a sequel. I think I played it on an Archimedes, which heavily narrows down the number of titles to look through; I'll have a search.

Edit: Arcventure! Okay, it was helpful after all; just had a flash of recollection. I remember at the time that I originally thought the start of it meant "Archimedes", it wasn't 'til later I picked up that it was "Archaeology"

Legendary! Well done, sir.

Ok someone plzzzz help me with this one!! i was like 9 or 10 and was watching games master it was a games show in the uk about... a video games :) anyway.

I remember them showing this clip of a game think it was on the snes but I may be wrong!!

Is the Retronauts podcast opening theme inspired by a certain game? I've always thought the song sounded extremely familiar, but still have not been able to tie it to one specific game.

I keep remembering this game that I think was on the n64 but don't remember the name. Though as far as I remember you wake up (probably with amnesia like a lot of games) in a bunker or something and for the length that I played it I don't remember ever having the character go outside. I think you also get a lot of your information from tv broadcasts, I think it was a 3rd person shooter and the enemies were either robots (because I seem to remember floating oval lazer shooting things) or zombies. You went up and down ladders and across these lab like walkways, it all had the feeling that the character was somewhere hidden and secret. I really don't remember much of it as it's been a long time but thought I would try and see if anyone can remember (even with the little info).
Half of that sounds like Winback, but wikipedia doesn't say anything about amnesia or zombies.

Last week I was in Micro Center watching a guy play a game on a 360. It looked like a typical beat-em-up with one character taking on a couple bad guys on the streets. Definitely made by a Japanese developer.
Anyone?

Please, help me to find the name of this game.

That's all I remember: a fat guy that spins his ponytail around and throw it at you. I think it's a game for an old computer.

Anyone knows?

EDIT: Sorry. Already found it. It's Yie Ar Kung-Fu 2.

I just remembered a PC game I forgot about that my sister would play. It was a point and click adventure where you are a detective in a futuristic world and there was a murder at a pet shop.

...sounds a hell of a lot like Bladerunner to me. The murder at Runciters Animal Emporium or whatever.

EDIT: Might throw this one out there, but it's vague as hell...a mere distant memory dredged up, circa 1990.

It was an arcade machine game, either a side-scrolling beat 'em up or a fighter...and the only thing I can really remember about it was some sort of Medusa character, or an echidna woman...half woman, half snake. The graphics...gawd...if memory serves correctly, sort of like the horrific Sword of Sodan on Genesis. The medusa/Echidna woman was most likely an adversary; while I didn't play the game, I think the main character on screen was a fellow, either Grecian or quasi-Norse.

Very vague, and most like the memory is distorted, but it's been on my mind since then.

Rastan Saga II?

Alright, I've got one for you guys. I can't remember the name of this game & it's been driving me kinda crazy lately.

So, around 1992/1993/1994, there was this game that I used to play in the computer lab in my elementary school. It was on a floppy. Might've been a DOS or an Apple II game (can't remember). What I do remember is that it was on a black (maybe dark green) background & the game's objects were just outlined in color.

It was a monster-mix up type game. You would take various monster parts from the left hand side of the screen, drag it into the "mixing tank?" on the right of the screen, press a few buttons on the control panel (within the game) & your monster would be created. I think that you also got a score of how creative your monster was. There might have also been an educational component to the game but, I don't remember if there was.

If anyone could actually figure out what game this is, that'd would be awesome. :D

I'll be amazed if anything ever comes of this. I used to play this on my school computers in about grade 5 or 6 (so it would be about 1998 or so). The game looked extremely early PC. You were a knight, or it was a medieval setting or something similar, and you moved around in a dungeon. I can't remember much else about it, but I know one of the weapons was a broad sword. I think you gathered jewels but that part could be horribly wrong.

okay, this one has been bugging me for some time now :

Sit down arcade game, i'd guess circa very early 80s.

All i remember was that it was something like Space Invaders (at least, there was some sort of alien shooting), and you had four "bases" at the bottom of the screen (not barriers!) that were armed with bombs.

The panel infront of you had four red buttons which you used to set off each of the bombs.

I think every now and then a mother ship would float across the screen.

Can anyone help ?

Hi, I wonder if anyone would help me on this one:D

I'm looking for a game development sim where you run your own game company and develop games and consoles. Its freeware by the way.

Sounds like Lazarian. Check this site to confirm.

PSone game where you start on a board and land on squares and use a monster to fight other monsters. I know its not a lot to go by but its all i have :lol

thanks for the Lazarian suggestion - unfortunately that's not it.

also - for sit down i mean more like the Star Wars sit down cab rather than a cocktail.

thanks though - it's driving me insane :D

This is on behalf of a friend. :P

- Late 80s arcade game
- Side scroller
- Dragon boss at the end of every level
- May have had the word ´´Black´´ in the title but maybe not.

Any ideas? It´s not Dragon Buster. :P

I think I've got some more info about the game I'm trying to find. Thanks to Draco, I did a search for "Monster Lab" + DOS & came up with these results:

http://www.dosgames.com/forum/about12712.html
http://www.dosgames.com/forum/about10882.html
http://www.dosgames.com/forum/about6990.html

& here's my topic over there: http://www.dosgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=100284

It looks like it's the same game that other people are trying to find as well. Hopefully those links will help identifying the game :D

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of Hybrid Heaven. No zombies, but there are a lot of weird, half-human, half-animal creatures you have to fight (hand to hand). There are also a ton of bots you have to "shoot" (with a gun-like device called a defuser) and destroy in real time. The entire game takes place in an alien complex. It's a great (and weird) game. I would love to see a VC release.

Before that I wanted to say Galerians (PSX) for some reason, but I'm pretty sure it's HH.

My money would be on Black Tiger.

- Played it on Win95 so maybe circa '90-'96
- Point & click adventure / edutainment game
- The main character visits a dinosaur archeological park (where many fossils are found)
- He has a pokedex-like PDA with info of dinosaurs
- Somehow he travelled to the past but still at the same location (time-shifted)
- He met the live dinosaurs at the archeological park (past) and has to find ways to get back to present time

First person PC adventure game.. you play as a detective or something in a futuristic environment with aliens and lots of intrigue, I believe there are dialogue trees, and I think the protagonist has some kind of psychic abilities. I believe a key environment was a bar.
