GameSpot: Kojima to leave Konami after MGSV, power struggle, communications embargo

So Konami has just committed suicide.

Hidden inside MGSV:TPP game code:
Gamers will be able run a secret operation at Konami HQ to take down Konami Management in a stealth mission. You have the option of lethal or non-lethal attacks although lethal methods are strongly encouraged. However, if the player goes gungho and blast people down using non-stealthy methods, the song Bobby Bitch from Bobby Shmurda will be blasted through the speakers. Upon successful completion of the mission, "It's Kojima Bitches!" will be displayed.

Thoughts on Konami bowing out of the mainstream console games? They're going mobile?

Or do they plan to stay strong in the AAA scene with MGS/Silent Hill, just without Kojima now?

Sorry to break it to some of you buy konami will be just fine without Kojima. My suck but games is a very small part of what they do now.

Be excited for indie Kojima. Finally he can move on without being brought back in by high sales. Shame about Silent Hills, but the new IPs he can create now will likely be as good.

It will be really weird if there will be no TPP related tweets from Kojima twitter :/

This just shows how confident Konami feel about current videogame business, particularly the console section. They will just stick with mobile cash in from now on.

So when do y'all think we'll read about the new studio, accompanied on its website by a countdown that will lead to a Kickstarter page for a not-Metal Gear or a not-Snatcher, that'll eventually get picked up and published by idk Ubisoft or Microsoft or somebody

Wouldn't wonder me if Sony or MS throw enough money at kojima to make whatever he wants exclusive.

Assuming this is true, that's pretty crazy. But also kinda exciting as a consumer.

I mean, it's awful for the team and I feel bad for them, but I'm very interested in seeing what an independent Kojima can do.

So Konami removes anything that attaches MGS to Kojima, basically spitting in his face for his contributions, and insists that he will stick around til MGS V ships?

Kojima mentally checks out in 5...4...3...

Is he taking Shinkawa with him?
I don´t think he will have a problem finding a new job at all,so wherever he goes i´ll follow him.
The OT must be something really special this time since it´s the last metal gear game.

Still getting made, apparently.

But who's going to actually make it? Del Toro isn't a game developer. KojiPro has apparently been hit with layoffs and Kojima is leaving. Is Konami going to get the bright idea to outsource it to inferior developers like they did with Silent Hill after killing Team Silent?

From the other thread
Should someone start a clock counting how long until we end up seeing some kind of Kojima fronted Kickstarter? With some spiritual Policenauts or Snatcher shit attached to it for maximum Kickstarter'ey

Well.... MGS was/is pretty much the only Konami franchise I play. I guess Konami will be pretty much dead to me then. Hopefully Kojima creates his own company like respawn entertainment did after the whole COD Fiasco.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
There are other key developers that left Konami right?

Maybe Kojima will start his own company.

This is Sakaguchi all over again, holy shit

But that was after a major flop. What's so weird about this is the timing...like it would make sense if it happened after MGSV was released and turned out to be a failure. But now, after so many years of development with only a few months left before fans/the market decide the success of MGSV? I don't understand at all.

I'm genuinely afraid that Kojima will simply retire after this. :-/

I sure hope not. He really seems like a guy that has a lot more that he wants to do. Ideal scenario is him starting up a new studio with most of the talent from Kojipro and finding a big publisher to fund a new endeavor.

What about you,
Hideo ?
What's it going to be? Loyalty to your company, or loyalty to me?
Your
country, or your shareholders?

Your job, or your beliefs?

Your duty to your
development team?
Or your personal feelings?

You don't know the truth yet. But sooner or
later, you'll have to choose.

I don't expect you to forgive me. But you can't
defeat me, either. You know me too well.

Just look at that Kojima Productions logo. If you
can't put the past behind you, you won't survive long.

If we meet again, I'll
kill you.

Go home!!

so that basically means that MGSV is the last metal gear solid with kojima at the helm? that's strange and exciting. i hope he lands somewhere good and finally gets to start making new games.

Yeah, I'm excited to see what he does next. Glad MGS is ending on an odd-numbered entry though. I've basically loved the odds and hated the evens.

Maybe we'll wind up an awesome new Kojima IP instead of him being forced to retcon MGS repeatedly for another dozen years.

Kojima will be better off starting his own studio. It's not like he not have a hard time finding people to publish his games, either.

If I were Nintendo, I would aggressively pursue him with briefcases full of untraceable cash to make a game for the launch of NX.

I feel fucking sorry for Del Toro. The guy wants to make a good scary videogame. He goes to Voilition and THQ goes bankrupt. He goes to Kojima/Konami and the division is dissolved.

I hope Del Toro keeps it up though.

Holy Fuck.

I wonder what caused the fallout. Was it the delay from June to September? More?

Who knows. Anyway I dont see Konami sticking with consoles after this. Without Kojima they have no one with AAA directorial experience.

I bet publishers are getting their checkbooks ready to sign Kojima after he bails though.

Well, Konami is fucked if they intend to be relevant to video gaming outside of Japan... if they even intend to stay in video games. Kojima and Metal Gear were pretty much the only thing keeping them in the minds of gamers in most of the world.
