This week has really been a rollercoaster..
I believe Kojima will survive and keep doing things he loves, interesting times ahead. Hopefully we'll hear about his plans sooner than later.

But who's going to actually make it? Del Toro isn't a game developer. KojiPro has apparently been hit with layoffs and Kojima is leaving. Is Konami going to get the bright idea to outsource it to inferior developers like they did with Silent Hill after killing Team Silent?

Knowing Konami, probably. :(

Don't worry, Konami still have Goemon, Gradius, Bomberman, Contra, Castlevania, DDR, Beatmania, Suikoden, Adventure Islands!

But that was after a major flop. What's so weird about this is the timing...like it would make sense if it happened after MGSV was released and turned out to be a failure. But now, after so many years of development with only a few months left before fans/the market decide the success of MGSV? I don't understand at all.

Maybe they went over the budget with MGSV? The game is completed and it makes no sense to cut the thing now, but stil...

What about you,
Hideo ?
What's it going to be? Loyalty to your company, or loyalty to me?
Your
country, or your shareholders?
yOZ6hIo.png

Your job, or your beliefs?

Your duty to your
development team?
Or your personal feelings?

You don't know the truth yet. But sooner or
later, you'll have to choose.

I don't expect you to forgive me. But you can't
defeat me, either. You know me too well.

Just look at that Kojima Productions logo. If you
can't put the past behind you, you won't survive long.

If we meet again, I'll
kill you.

Go home!!

I remember, predictions turned out to be true for the worse

Not really a game company anymore.

Yeah, did they release anything besides GZ and PES last year? And do they have anything announced beyond TPP, Silent Hills, and an assumed PES? Konami hasn't been the company we knew for years.

Its seems like that ridiculous 2010 E3 was just yesterday... now they don't even have anything to show at a conference

Looks like MGS V is the last Konami game I ever purchase.

RIP Konami. Hope Kojima moves on to bigger and better things.

Can't believe this is really happening.... so MGSV will really be the last MGS then...
And I'm absolutely shattered that this means he isn't going to work on Silent Hills anymore. It was too good to be true I guess.

Ugh.

Here's hoping Hideo doesn't leave the industry.
Also, Konami is not doomed guys, c'mon. Games are just a part of the company.

Well, Konami is fucked if they intend to be relevant to video gaming outside of Japan... if they even intend to stay in video games. Kojima and Metal Gear were pretty much the only thing keeping them in the minds of gamers in most of the world.

That's the thing. I don't think they want to be relevant to console gaming anymore. As people have pointed out, they've expanded way beyond console games. This feels like they're winding down a business they want to get out of.

R.I.P Konami's game division. I wonder if Kojima and the rest will form a new studio or all just go their separate ways.

With multiple producer departures from Konami this week, I don't think this is solely about Kojima and Konami having a spat.

I think Konami is making a major structural change that takes them away from video games outside of one or two series. Kojima, whose position as an executive had him overseeing all video game development, clearly wasn't happy about this.

Though I also wouldn't be too quick to completely blame either party. There have always been rumors about Kojima being infamously difficult to work with as an employee. Things about him promising milestones to higher ups with no realistic way to hit them. The most repeated rumor I've heard is that he assumed MGS4 would be done long before the time they were actually trending toward and Konami had to basically shut down all other aspects of video game development to get all hands on deck to finish MGS4.

Who knows, I'd probably blame Konami way, way more than anyone else here. But I think it's clear they just want out of the video game rat race. I don't immediately want to blame them, either, because the video game rat race must suck for a Japanese third party right now. They probably pushed extra hard on Metal Gear to the exclusion of all else and that wasn't making anyone involved happy.

So...I guess Konami is done with the games industry?

Maybe they'll sell off their IPs.

Sell Castlevania to someone, and then bring back Iga to work on it. Now it's possible!

Company has been a shitshow since the infamous E3 presentation a few years ago. Yet another company in complete disarray.

Relax, Konami and Del Toro can still make a horror game. The IP's there just waiting for them.

Forbidden Siren.

If Konami owns the IP, I don't think MGS is going anywhere. Just like there was Ninja Gaiden 3, there will be more MGS.
