GameSpot: Kojima to leave Konami after MGSV, power struggle, communications embargo

Well after MGSV, Konami is dead to me. Out of all the major publishers I honestly hope Sony picks him up since we know they are at least willing to put money forward for "different" type of games as has been proven from the PS1 til now.

Whoever gets him though will be extremely lucky since it seems he wants his team with him.

i really doubt Konami is going to look at a bunch of tweets and suddenly undo whatever undoubtedly complex web of corporate decisions, numbers, and actions from both parties lead to this

Could someone in the know tell me what Konami's primary revenue source is? Are they making enough money out of mobile or something to survive a post-Kojima era or are they signing their own death warrant?

Can somebody meme my avatar?

Also, lmao at Del Toro having a curse. If he tries again and that company closes down, that man has to stay away from videogames.

Konami does gambling machines, sports clubs, and a bunch of other stuff.

I know the "Konami is causing their own doom" narrative is so sweet, but it's not true.

Could Kojima and Toro make a horror game with the same concept, but under a different name, or does Konami own rights for everything they've done so far with it?

I don't get the sadness. It's long, long, looooong overdue that Kojima works on something other than MGS. I'm legitimately surprised he agreed to work on 5.

Konami has done about fuckall without Kojima, so him parting ways isn't much of a bad thing.

Sucks bad for the studio though, hope things shake out well for them.

Maybe from a Video Game perspective. But as a company Video Games is damn near bottom of the totem pole for them

Do not underestimate the power of NeoGAF.

We can make Konami, we can BREAK THEM. NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR FEAR

I do not get the hate against Konami , we don't know what happened , what if Kojima wanted more than konami could offer , what if Kojima wanted to become the Big Boss.

Now he is leaving to built his Outer Heaven, what people do not realice is that since MGS on PlayStation 1 Kojima has been telling us his own story inside Konami.

Seriously though, I hope Sony are scrambling to sign him on.

Oh please yes. Hire the whole damn Kojima Productions team.
Integrate them into Sony Japan as Kojima FuckKonamiProductions alongside the bigger studios like Poly.
One team works on new games, one team develops new tech for Sony WWS with their Foxengine know-how and a third team collaborates with Team Siren for a fucking SirenS game!

You are hell bent on revenge EmCeeGramr. Don't scatter your sorrow to the heartless sea!

Believe! #AHideoKojimaGame

Figures, we finally get a good PC version of a modern Metal Gear game, and it ends up being the last goddamn one. Hope Kojima ends up at a multiplatform company, need to play his stuff on PC.

As I recall, console games account for less than 20 percent of Konami's business.

This is totally something on a similar level right?

Why not? all we ask for is to show the respect Kojima and his team deserve and put the "A Hideo Kojima Game" tag and the Kojima Productions logo back on the boxarts and marketing stuff.

Ahh, that makes a lot more sense. I had a feeling Konami had basically moved away from console gaming giving how anemic their output has been for the past few years (RIP Suikoden...).

My comrades.

Here's to you Nicola and Bart, rest forever here in our hearts
the last and final moment is yours, that agony is your triumph.

I've had my MGSV music playlist on repeat since this began. I can't peel myself from my seat, I won't stop until we get more MGS fans to join us with their avatars!

fake edit:

Yeah, I guess this means the save data import to bring Kojima into TPP will probably not pan out now...

GAF Diamond :)

I'll jump aboard with this. :)

Prepare for a remake of MG1 and 2, helmed by the visionaries behind the Silent Hill HD Collection.

5b3.jpg

Didn't they get people who programmed DVD menus to work on that, or some shit? Like they got a team of people entirely incapable of doing the HD Collection, I guess to keep it all cheap.

This is really a major end of an era for me since I really grew up with this series and always admired Kojima more than any other game developer.

I know he'll continue to make great things though. Too bad Konami on the other hand will just give us mediocre sequels from this point on. :(

sad if he it means no more mgs made by kojima. who ever takes it up is gone screw up the lore thats been built up. was hoping hed do another zone of enders games after mgs V

but on the other hand, if he does leave. takes his crew with him he could create another equaly stunning game series with and exxleant story arc.

but personaly i want something like snatcher or policenuaghts

What does this mean to future patches/updates/DLC for MGSV? I'm worried the game might be left in a less than ideal state post launch because the original programming team is no longer there.

Konami'll get one of their mobile development teams to handle it.

No biggie.
