It's early morning in Japan now. If they decide to shed some light on the situation, we might get a statement in the next few hours, I think...

What does this mean to future patches/updates/DLC for MGSV? I'm worried the game might be left in a less than ideal state post launch because the original programming team is no longer there.

Kojima's team are probably pushing themselves really hard to make sure no patches of that sort will be necessary.

Well they're under contract until December, so that gives time for at least 1 final major patch to fix bugs. And I don't think DLC was ever planned for MGSV, so I wouldn't worry about it.

but MGO is basically dead on arrival unless they plan on keeping the LA team around

i get the argument that konami is moving away from gaming, but it's obviously some really really poor planing on their part if that's the case. they spend who knows how many millions of dollars to develop an engine capable of delivering cross-gen, multiplatform games. they open an studio in LA, etc etc....only to just give it up? really?

Somebody tag my avatar, please.

me too please

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Right because changing the cover art for a variant issue of a single comicbook is in the same league as the restructuring plan for an entire corporation.

Why not? all we ask for is to show the respect Kojima and his team deserve and put the "A Hideo Kojima Game" tag and the Kojima Productions logo back on the boxarts and marketing stuff.

They worked on the game for over 5 years, created a brand new engine for them and now they don't even get mentioned? Konami acts like Kojima and his team don't exist. It's fucking disrespectful.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
that feel when mgsv is the last kojima metal gear you will ever play?

They changed the name of the LA studio, they didn't shut it down, relax.

Going in with my head held high.

Well we don't really know the fate of Kojima Productions LA yet. They might be around long enough to put out some DLC before the inevitable closure.

Uh, you know when GAF members post things like "I hope TLG comes out this week", its completely different to "an insider told me TLG comes out next week", right?

I would be shocked if there weren't calls already being made by Sony. Saying that I'm sure A LOT of publishers are lining up to talk with him.

I have no doubt that if Kojima leaves Shinkawa will be with him.

Wow.

As far as I'm concerned: RIP Konami

Without Kojima's crew I can't think of anything new they have in the works that I'm interested in.

This can't be real. Restricting Internet, email and appearance privileges seems beyond petty and this is all according to a single anonymous source right? Surely a massive grain of salt required. Did we learn nothing from IGN's "Last Guardian is cancelled" article last year. Single random anonymous sources are not to be trusted. Not to mention Konami would be totally ducked without Kojima. That's not how you would treat your leading talent.

Kojima will build a new studio, outside of Konami's grasp. Finally they'll stop being the pawns of the industry. Making only the games they want to make for their own cause. They will be Diamond Dogs

It's only a matter of time.

That studio has got to be expensive. I doubt Konami will be paying them a year after MGSV comes out.

exactly. they are going to keep a studio open in LA to support MGO? doubtful, unless they shove a bunch of microtransactions into the game or some shit

This is depressing...
It truly may be the end of an era

I've been playing Metal Gear games since the original was released on the NES back in 1988 when when I was 8-years-old. I'll be 36 when MGSV releases. I've basically grown up all the way into adulthood with the franchise.

Have we even established that, even if it's the result of ~srs drama~ and not at attempt at a clean break, that it's not Kojima not wanting his name used to shill for the company he bailed out of?

I don't think it's that hard for Konami to add a couple of names/logos to the box. A giant corporate shift is not needed.

Except that Sony execs debunked that on twitter almost immediately. Kojima hasn't been around at all and not a single Konami rep has said anything. Couple this with the KNOWN FACT that his name has been taken off of The Phantom Pain, and they have restructured the company and you have a good foundation for this source.

IGN had none of that.

You think they don't want to keep the game alive and viable post launch? Expansions, maps, costumes, etc?

I'm sorry but that's insane.

This is first I heard of Konami moving away from gaming. What direction are they taking?

What did you come back from the dead? :O
