GameSpot: Kojima to leave Konami after MGSV, power struggle, communications embargo

I just really, really hope this isn't over about content or DLC, and the splitting thereof.

MGSV shouldn't have to suffer that shitty practice, not when this is Kojima's (and now hugely poignant) magnum opus.

As someone already pointed out, it could also be because KojiPro is not a consistent profit driver; one triple-A title every 5 years or so don't reflect well on the balance books, and definitely not with the kind of budget I'd assume they'll have.

I'm more surprised by the tone and nature of the departure than the event itself. Kojima wasn't going to make metal gear until the end of time, he was going to find his way to indie games eventually if there was any MGS2 Kojima still inside him.

And Metal Gear Rising 2

Oh christ, I didn't even think about this. Poor platinum. :(

Wow, I guess I've been really out of the loop to discover that Konami have been transitioning out of video games.

So what's the end game here, that Konami eventually move out of video games completely? Otherwise I don't get this move; certainly not with a key franchise and studio. Or maybe it's just because of crazy overheads at KP.

Fuck, man. I was really looking forward to Silent Hills.
This really will be Kojima's last MGS. Damn :(

Welp Konami is dead to me after MGSV. Shame about Silent Hills though as PT was excellent. At least Kojima is finally free. It's like the Big Boss graveyard scene at the end of MGSIV.

If Konami is getting out of games why don't they just sell off all their IP? Is there any value in actually keeping that stuff if you aren't going to do anything with it?

Fucking hell! RIP Konami!

Kojima will still find his feet elsewhere surely this only hurts Konami??

Guess we can say goodbye to ZOE3, Silent HIlls and good Metal Gear games.

Wow... Is this shit-hitting-the-fan week in the videogames industry?

It feels like the sky is falling lately.

this should have been the last Metal Gear anyways but good lord this is awful news for Silent Hills :(

damn shame what they're doing to Kojima, I have grown less fond of him post-MGS4. but they owe him so much.

Time for Kojima to find a publisher for Phone of the Benders: The Third Drummer. Despite the title it's somehow an anime mech game.

When Hideo leaves I hope we see a mass exodus of the development staff like what happened with Infinity Ward.

Also I hope whichever publisher he ends up under essentially gives him a blank cheque and complete creative control for his new projects.

Isn't there a picture of kojima sitting on a chair (with a name of it), which is used by directors to protest against the project ? I fucking forget the name and details, anybody knows ?

Kojima is the new Ueda :O
Honestly the timing of this is really bad with the promotion of the game ramping up...
I wonder what happened, what kind of power or bonus Kojima and his stuff wanted and was denied by Konami.

Of course Konami is totally fucked, they will try to survive going mobile but it will be an easy acquisition target for its IPs.

Wow. I guess after MGSV Konami is pretty much done right? I mean, not as a company obviously but what else do they have in video games? PES?

Looks like MGSV really will be Kojima's last Metal Gear and at this point Konami could stop all marketing for the game up to release and it'll still be a big hit. At this point they can't do much to fuck up MGSV.

Wonder what will happen to Silent Hills now.

Well, this is it.
The final Metal Gear Solid by Kojima. We all laugh when he said that this is his last metal gear. I guess this time its for real.

Maybe they weren't lying about making more Love Plus games?

In all seriousness Konami is bleeding talent and I'm curious to see what their future in games is like.

This sucks bad but let's be honest: The writing was on the wall way back during the E3 2010 conference, possibly even earlier. I'd bet Konami hasn't been fully invested in publishing games for a long time, now.

Worried about Kojima's future as a AAA game director. Very few publishers would give him the money and creative freedom he needs. Probably close to zero in Japan.

This isn't that sad or bad if you think about it. Kojima has been sorta put into a position to continually make MGS games over and over again, him finally being free under any circumstances will mean he'll do what he wants to do in the future. I said I'd play MGS games without Kojima, but after this I'll probably stick with the Rising series and nothing else.

He made my favorite gaming series of all time, he has balls the size of sedans. MGS4 sucked a lot of ass, but everything else is fantastic. MGSV being the last mainline title will be a good thing, finally some closure to this long series.

Thank you Kojima, fuck you Konami.
