How is this a good business decision? You just end up pissing people off.

Is this an anti-lottery?

CONGRATS! You won the chance to pay us $300 plus sales tax (Oregon bros are exempt) and extra should you want games and accessories!

LOL

wtf haha, thats just silly. You know if you have someone pay all $300 + tax that same day you would weed out a lot of people looking to flip it

flippers love paying $50 or using amazon/best buy because you can cancel with no penalty

'Congratulations! You've won!'
'Oh man, what'd I win?!'
'The opportunity to pay us 300$ plus tax!'
'....'

Yeah, this is weird. If they want to randomly let customers get the preorder they should make it a lottery online for their cardholders since they're forever pushing that damn thing.

This sucks. I hope people don't fall for it and Gamestop is left with egg on their face. Just let those pre-orders loose so people can get them without this kinda crap.

It seems like the only difference between this and when you could do it normally is that with this you don't have to put any money down to reserve, while usually it's $50 down.

So...

Yay?

I wonder how which stores and when will get the go-ahead to give out a pre-order. What's the selection process like? Does the store manager just give it out to the only person in the store who's looking at the Funko Pop figures? What if the store is full? How "random" will it be?

I'd rather just have a raffle put in for people with interest in perhaps snagging a pre-order just write their name and number on a ticket. Then when a store gets a green light for a selection they can draw from the pool.

Seems kinda silly but the outrage here seems sillier. "First come first serve" is a breeding ground for scalpers and scalpers should be shot. Although, I guess this could result in randos putting in tickets even if they don't want the Switch and then scalping their preorders. So, whatever. It's just 1,000. They'd disappear quick as hell anyways.

I'm guessing the realistic number of preorders they will take is way more than 1000. My brain can't process them only taking 1000 nationwide

So considering there are 4,000 gamestops in the U.S. I can kind of see why they didn't just release them to all stores to re-open preorders.

Seems like it would have been a better idea just to put them up online though.

"Sorry, you're not eligible to preorder a Switch. How would you like to preorder for a used Switch?"

Idk if this deserves its own thread or has already been said, or where to even say this. Today a gamestop employee, who seemed extremely excited for the switch, told me a nintendo rep told her they were adding a Switch Kiosk in 2 weeks but wouldn't tell her what game(s) they would have on the demo station.

A Shining Example
I'd like to think that they probably secured enough to cover anyone who shows up and this whole "1,000 people" thing is just blowing smoke... but it is Gamestop. They probably would actual do something like this and piss people off. And how much do you want to bet that half the employees are going to show up on Saturday with people wanting to pre-order and not know wtf these people are talking about?

This is definitely dumb but I was planning on going in anyway to trade my OG XB1 in for $150 credit since I'm not using it. Was actually thinking about putting the credit towards a Switch this fall, but I guess we'll see.

This is fucking hilarious.

*walks into gamestop*

Clerk: CONGRATULATIONS YOU'VE JUST WON!

Customer: Won what?

Clerk: THE CHANCE TO PRE-ORDER THE NEW NINTENDO SWITCH

Customer: Wait what's---

Clerk: THAT'LL BE 299.99!

As someone who worked for the company for nearly a decade... This is by far the single dumbest thing I have ever seen them do. It only have 2 outcomes and neither of them are good. Either no one will know about it or pay attention to it (making it meaningless) or a lot of people will pay attention to it (like on here) and employees will get endless questions/harassment about it. There might be a few people who actively go for it and get lucky but its not like you actually have good odds of doing so.

I've said for awhile now that I don't think that despite what a lot of people think that Gamestop is actually getting desperate but... This actively reeks of desperation. Like holy shit who thought this would be a good idea?
