i didnt feel like commenting but after a few days id like to throw my hat in.

ive been following GT since around 2008. the quality of the writing and the wealth of user created content made the site a head above its peers in my eyes, although over the last few years i had lost interest. kyle's show brought me back to GT when i caught it sometime last year.

its not as painful as when we lost ryan davis, but im still more sad about this than i anticipated.

If all they do is something on the side like a weekly GT-Time like podcast, I would be happy. Regardless, I will support whatever they do.

A podcast and some streams per week would be brilliant and quite easy to achieve.
Anything more than that would be dreamland.

Uneasy Alliance is a GREAT name for a new channel/site x)

I'm spending my night watching streams I missed or binge watching old shows while playing games... I'm happy to see we are quite a few people showing support.

Do not get it , if there are lots of people streaming for donations making money ,why they just not swich to this model , pretty sure they will get the money to have an affordable life.

asking for donations is a good way to never actually get any money

see also: all the modders that revealed they basically only ever got like five dollars total off donations when people told them to ask for donations instead of charging money directly for their work

That would be awesome and they would have my $$.

Hour twitch stream a day and GT Time. Plus live reactions to press conferences.

I dunno, Cool Ghosts (Matt Lees and co.) seem to manage okay and they're pretty much the GT format (original features plus commentary). I mean, afaik, they're a two man outfit, but I'd expect GameTrailers had a larger audience. The ex-GT members could start off with only a couple of people and expand as Patreon funds increase, maybe do some Twitch streaming as well to bring in subscription money, it's not unworkable.

There was also the GT Time somewhere where he called Shane Satterfield the SS :lol

Lol, I remember that.
sigh
There was a funny/sad comment thread on Siftd when someone replied to UltimateBrent saying something like "I remember you demodded me and permabanned me a long time ago," then UB apologized and said he was a "ruthless bastard" back then. Then another person said he permad him too. UltimateBrent replied with "Well, we're all permabanned now."

I laughed, but then I got sad...

No thanks. Satterfield is a moron IMO. Bot even close to the dynamic these folks have together.

Completely agree, if you go back and watch some of Invisible Walls almost every episode is about Shane either getting into an argument with Marcus or him doing everything in his power to tell someone their opinion is wrong and he is right. Some episodes are outright painful to watch, there was an episode where Marcus and Shane were getting into an argument over how much retails like Gamestop made off of new games and despite Marcus background being a PR person (IE someone who would fucking know what hes talking about) Shane would not stop telling him that he was wrong/crazy/ect it goes on for like 20 minutes out of the whole episode and guess what Shane was way fucking off.

He's just an ass and I think what annoys me about it is that he doesn't seem to be aware of it, in his mind he thinks everything he does/says is right even if hes proven wrong and I can't stand that at all.

Patreon is closer to a subscription format, with paywalled content. The type I was referring to was "throw up a donation button and hope for the best", and the best rarely happens. You literally make more money off ads if 98% of your users are adblocking you.

For real, I went back and watched the invisible walls episode where they talked about RE6 and it was so painful to watch, Shane kept saying "someones opinion is never wrong" but then went on to say that ppl that gave RE6 a low score are crazy....lmao

I see yeah, I've never used a donation button. Though weirdly, I have given to a Patreon with no exclusive benefits.

Not to turn this into a "bash Shane" thread, but my most memorable Invisible Walls moment was the classic "Shane argues against Fallout: New Vegas" episode, where he says it's a genuine flaw that the game doesn't drop you into New Vegas really early in the game. Despite the fact that you can make it to the titular town in just a couple of hours, Shane felt REALLY strongly that too many people would buy the game super hyped about the city and then would become super disappointed that the city wasn't seen until a while into the game. It started off as such a minor talking point and Shane kept repeating how big a deal this was and everyone else on the panel was like "wtf are you on...?"

I'd like to see old GT staffers joining SIFTD with Shane. I'd gladly drop more scratch to get some GT shows to Siftd.

As much as I enjoyed GT Time, I still miss the 4-way conversations that Shane had with Invisible Walls

He had Marcus - his counterweight on all things - and Ryan - basically his right-hand man. And the revolving fourth chair of GT staff to discuss their new game review, conference they attended, etc.

The 2-way conversations Shane podcasts now allow him to run a tighter ship, but I miss the wild turns that the 4-way would venture off into on occasion....

No way. Shane needs to retire. That guy is so out of touch with video games it's not even funny. Either that or he's so stuck in his ways that he is unable to accept anything that is new or different.

I bet he regrets shooting his mouth off about The Walking Dead Season 1.

Not sure if anyone posted this or not, but Elyse and Funhaus discuss GT's demise.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbfCZSuwwgc

I didn't care for the screwattack guy pretty much just saying that the only thing gt was good for was hosting his old content and their old monopoly on game trailers. I never cared for screwattack and he doesn't get why people are upset. Also Elyse barely talks, is funhaus always like this?

Shane sucked the fun out of everything he was in, Bonus Round included. Guy took himself and his opinions way too seriously, and was such a fanboy about the things he liked. Bored me to tears. Was glad to see him go.

If you look at Gametrailers since it existed, he's kinda right as a full picture. Screwattack was the most popular thing on the site for a lonnnng time even after they stopped putting new stuff up. No idea why they didn't realise that they needed new personality content based on that fact and it took them years to do their other stuff which was hit and miss.

Since Bosman came on the scene though? That's a totally different GT, but it's not the majority of their existence. I doubt he was saying anything out of turn though. Hell, he was buying the GT crew beers after that.

I never went to GameTrailers that much but when I wanted to see a Review for a game I would ALWAYS go to GT first. They will be missed.

Agreed, plus I felt like gt did an excellent job making a personality driven editorial show. Nothing notable in gaming news this week? No problem, our news show will be joke driven (man ups). No new games to review? No problem, let's pick an old one off the shelf that flew under everyone's radar and put it the the test (first 15). Tired of editorial pessimism and commercial motivated shilling? Have a shot of pure Huber hype. No big news before a big conference? No problem, let's raise the stakes with a betting special. Plus everything rewarded you for watching consistently, from Bosman lore, to steam memes, to gt time bets. They had excellent community relations, reading comments, responding to them, and even tailoring thier jokes and production around them at times. And when things like e3 and reviews came around that needed a strong editorial edge, they freaking brought it!

Anyone who says gt was not evolving with the times doesn't really appreciate the scope of what they where doing. The only thing dated about the 2015 gt was thier name, and I hope that is the only thing they lose in this fiasco!

Edit: forgot to credit other editorial minded shows like countdown, backtrack, and trailer score and of course those behemoth lalabors of love in pop fiction and retrospectives. There was no competition, and thus no replacement for half the stuff they were doing.

Point of fact, Shane's website is doing pretty well financially; his new form of business model works.

I'll always remember that he helped build the GameTrailers we know and love.

You would probably be correct in stating, though, that major changes needed to happen (him to leave in early 2013, as one) before Kyle, Huber, and even (to some extent) Brandon could evolve their roles.

Yes, can't stand Funhaus. I hope Elyse is getting paid well and is happy, because what a waste of talent that place is.

The greatest thing about Invisible Walls was that it wasn't restricted to news, it would do news, expand upon reviews and the latest games, talk about trailers, everything. The reviews were great, but I enjoyed hearing more about a game, talking about issues that came up in playing

I have no idea. This was the first Funhaus video I've ever watched. I missed Elyse from GT, but never enough to actually follow her to this place until now (needed something to listen to at work since there's no Final Bosman today). And I agree that the name GameTrailers was maybe holding them back. But for the record, here are the things GT had going for it:

• Personality
• Best reviews (in my opinion)
• Production quality
• Personality
• Personality
• Personality

You said it. I really hope that the crew can somehow stay together and burn through their own path. I don't want to see them apart. :(

Just found out about this and man does this suck. I really hope everyone finds new work quickly. Loved their reviews and appreciated the different shows they produced. =(

.........

Why does this video have over 70k views in on day when a typical episode of GT Time had only around 35k?

No offense to Funhaus but their podcasts don't hold a candle to the production value and quality of GT Time. It's just a mess of irrelevant anecdotes, random shit happening without context, meandering conversations, barely any actual gaming discussion, and the same goes for most of the other offerings from other outlets.

I. just. don't. understand. it. Why does this survive while GameTrailers gets shut down? WHAT THE FUCK.

So I downloaded the 77 eps of Mandatory Update that were on Youtube. Are the first 3 episodes missing? "This is based on "The 100th Episode" being episode 10.

[edit] mmm the opening five mins of that Funhaus podcast were... uhh... pleasant.
