Gaming GAF, do you judge others by their avatar?

I'm biased against those who don't ask the all-important question of When Marvel is. Especially if they don't have it in their avatar!

Judgement is both positive and negative:

Someone with a Kaz avatar defending Sony, clearly biased and I'll just skip their post often enough.

Someone with a Halo avatar talking about the gameplay mechanics of Halo, probably knowledgeable on the subject and can shed some light on it.

I think ultimately if you conduct yourself well and try to write good posts and contribute to discussions, then most people really won't care what you have as your avatar. There are a number of posters here who I would continue to respect and whose posts I would continue to read with interest even if they switched their avatar to something I don't care for.

I made a comment in a post about Wiiu controller's and mentioned the fact that many of the ppl claiming the wiiu controller is the best have Nintendo avatars and are probably biased lol I was welcomed with the commander of the brigade being caustic and telling me not to judge lol It was one of the funniest things because they took it so serious.

tsuntsun.
get outta my face i hate them all

But your last one was quite good.

Or at least I think it was your last one, I have no idea how many you've probably gone through since then.
Which one would that be? I used one for 2 or 3 weeks, this one.

I liked it, but I like change~! Then I had one last night that I loved but it disappeared overnight, mod probably got rid of it. ):

You are forever Kurisu.
I hope that's Kurisu.
that's so kurisu, even if it's not

I hope not, it is silly to judge someone by their avatar. I understand though that with the proliferation of Kaz avatars it is getting harder to resist. Even then I think people see what they want to see. They will remember the fanboyism because it annoys them but forget about other posts.

No, I use them to indentify posters, I don't care what their avatars are.

Well, I guess I kinda don't take the people with ponies and deformed anime characters very seriously.

Eh, people say things and do things for all sorts of reasons. Even in real life, where you can actually see a person, hear a person, pick up on their quirks, you're still only getting a glimpse of what makes them tick.

Thus, to make assumptions about a person based on their avatar, tag or post on an Internet message board is folly -- there's just too much context missing.

I've been very blessed in life, and I'm thankful for it. I try not to judge others, and I usually see some good in everyone. My basic metric for the quality of a person's character is whether they're kind to others. All other details are irrelevant to me.

When it comes to our interactions here at GAF, know that when I respond to your post, I am not judging you yourself -- I am merely responding to an idea articulated in a certain fashion.

As for my avatar and what I try to convey with it -- enthusiasm, really. Passion! <3

I found that most people with anime/girl/loli/whatever you wanna call it are some of the nicest, most tolerant people in GAF. Yes, I just judged a whole segment of this forum. (after reading their posts, of course.)

As for mine? I usually change it to the game that I'm playing or liking at the moment, and whenever I have the chance I try to make it funny or find something funny about it. I like to throw people off so they don't get a chance to dismiss me based on my avatar or quote it. (damn me for being so self-conscious)

Being able to turn avatars off is GAF's second best feature.

GAF's best feature is post history, which is the only time I ever see anyone's avatar (if I'm checking their profile).

I've had more people respond to my posts in less than two months with this avatar, than the previous 6 months on a different avatar.

I'm not convinced my posts have suddenly become more readable, or that I am posting more interesting things.

No, It's because I no longer have a BF avatar.

Fuck the haters.

:)

I don't outright judge people by their avatars, but I'd be lying if I said a particularly fitting or obnoxious avatar didn't get me to look at their posting history.

And I do the usual associating people with their avatars after awhile, as I'm sure everyone now associates me with mine. >_>;

Sometimes I do, specially when they have a pony or anime loli avatar. I'm sorry, I just can't take them too seriously sometimes.

Try not to, but quite often you can see trends in how a poster comes across, and the type of avatar they have. Don't want to lump the Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft avatar bearer's as fanboys, but I find the correlation surprisingly high. Do my best to ignore it

It's funny though because I remember when I sported a Zelda Avatar and a Tifa one in the space of a week. I got called a Nintendo fanboy and a Sony one by the same person!

Well, it's clear you're a Xenosaga fanboy, too....

I think it's unwise to assume anything about a person based on their forum avatar. There are simply too many people for whom the avatar means nothing. It's a trifle, a joke. Or chosen at random.

If you get to know someone in detail, then maybe you could determine that their avatar is significant.

However, if someone's avatar has a good beard, I automatically take them entirely seriously.

I wouldn't date someone who would have a non-anime avatar on GAF.

except Brazil
LOL, sounds like a deep soul-searching question:

"Nice night -- restaurant's not too shabby, either. So... If you were to represent yourself with an avatar, what picture would you use?"

Judging people by their avatar ? rarely happens in my case unless i'm arguing with someone and this person's avatar is representative of what this person is defending.

Like someone who praise Microsoft in every way possible and his avatar is Halo, Gears or Steve Ballsmer.

Judging by your avatar you really like Ghouls n Ghosts, that makes you a good person
