I don't need to tell you what problem they had with SB, lol.

I listened to their SB review and basically it's: Story had potential but I kept being reminded that NieR Automata did this exact same plot but better.

He enjoyed the game but it didn't feel unique enough for him.

Which is also my opinion, game is fun but it's not exceptional.

Wukong ? Haven't played it, not that I don't want to. Free time is just not as plentiful as it used to.

Ok so I’m not alone here I’m really struggling to get motivated to play this past the first few hours that I already have. It just seems a bit repetitive and uninspired. I kind of don’t understand where all the praise is from. If this wasn’t a Sony published game and was just some normal looking dude, would this even be on anyone’s radar.

I have not played Black Myth Wukong, but I did play Stellar Blade. Its a good game, solid 7.5/10, but it's not GOTY material in my opinion. Being able to play dress up with an attractive game character that has a nice ass and big boobs, doesn't necessarily make something GOTY.

Agreed. Would love to know what action games people played in 2024 that are better than Stellar Blade. Hell we can extend this question to the entire PS5 gen. Stellar Blade is probably the best "character action game" since DMC5 or Sekiro.

I am happy you played it and have your own opinion!
I purposefully kinda limited myself to more normal outfits when palying. the green default outfit outfit, orca engineer and few others. Makes it easier to immerse yourself.
But Dressup game is a great reward for some exploration I found.

My thoughts exactly. 2024 was pretty slim for me and these were amongst few games that shined for me.
But I noticed exactly the same comments about final fantasy 16 last year which is an extremely fun game that is so stupid and so spectacular.
Maybe it's hard times and people are just more demanding or negative? I have a feeling internet and social media make people way more negative and critical in general.
Perhaps I am still happy about games like this because I play games my whole life and seeing these games make my eyes pop out in comparison to what we had as kids lol.

It deserves merit just on being a new IP with great designs and aesthetic, in a entertainment medium filled with predictable sequels and remakes.

Yeah FF7 Remake was fucking amazing. Had the same wow factor by 2020 standards that peak japanese 00s games had both visually and gameplay wise. Except for that one low resolution door lmao.

haha I never experienced the door texture since I played the remaster when it came out on ps5.
But yes, I agree. I would say "yuck anime game" before that. But I somehow got to play it when my wife had a few day work trip and I was looking for something to do and I couldn't have surprised myself more than I did.

You seem to think these games are owed a spot on someone's personal GOTY list because they were popular or because someone else picked them. There are plenty of other popular Youtubers who didn't include Black Myth on their GOTY lists. It's not a universally liked game. Stellar Blade even less so.

Why is the games industry in trouble if Souls-like rip-off #164 with a Chinese mythology twist isn't on GOTY lists? It doesn't move a genre forward, and it doesn't innovate in any way. It's not Baldur's Gate 3 or Elden Ring.
