5090 is not the model number, its the price.
So much drama over the price.
It'll probably be about 100-200 dollars more than the 4090.
Expensive? Yes, indeed. But hardly shocking. And definitly not suprising in this day and age.

The "shock horror" 2500 dollars rumours will probably turn out to be bullshit, just like the "minimum 600w" rumours.

It’s 2000 for the FE . If you think otherwise you are dead wrong

$2000 for a graphics card is absolutely shocking. It's fucking insane.

Yeah, it's very expensive indeed. But is it really shocking now? After the launch of the 3090Ti and the 4090? You should not be shocked by this. It's to be expected (sadly)
It’s no less shocking than it was before. It’s an absolutely insane price.

I agree 100%.

Yes it is. But that's what we get when there's no competitor. Also Nvidia are more interested in the AI market so they can basically treat the gaming market like a pimp treat its whores.

I had the strangest conversation with some people in the industry yesterday concerning 50 series.

I was convinced they wouldn't go with 2,500 for the 5090 but I heard some comments that it may actually end up costing that and one of the reasons could be that nvidia have seen a lot of online commentary that people expect it to cost that much, so that may be contributing to where they decide to price it.

Absolutely bonkers. I didn't think it would be more than 1999.

Of course, take with a pinch.

Nvidia can do anything. I expect higher prices than ada because, why not? They have no competition.

But maybe they will like to gain some good will again and use the same or even lower prices.

What use is goodwill for Nvidia ?
You can't put a sail on it.

They do that sometimes, with 970 price/performance, 1070 with 8GB of ram. 3080 price (virtual price thanks to shortages but still). But yeah, there is no good reason for them to drop prices or even match them with ada, with weak ass AMD competition.

But even when AMD was competitive Nvidia still sold majority of GPUs so...

With AMD admitting that they won't compete at the high end anymore, the 5090 might as well be the modern day Titan and it looks like they're going to have a huge gulf between the 5090 and 5080 in terms of both performance and likely pricing.

well.. its kinda what they want. people to assume its going to be super expensive and when they release at 2k for example, people will say oh thats a fair price i was expecting much more.

however. I am 100% sure its not above 2k. I am almost positive its even less than that. I am going to assume its 1800$ for 5090, 1300$ for the 5080 or 1200 at lowest.

both cards are about that range.

Too small of a price gap because there almost has to be a product inbetween.

If 5090 is $1800 then the much weaker 5080 should be around $1K or $1100. It wouldn’t make sense to price 5080 at $1300 the.

This would repeat the 4080 scenario at release where sales weren’t that hot.

Too small of a price gap because there almost has to be a product inbetween.

5080 “Tie” 😉

maybe 600$ difference and then a 5080s with 300$ msrp difference and specs is half in between. All I know is that there is no way in hell the 5090 is above 2k unless its a titan card and not meant to be for gaming. which I dont think its the case.

I can share that Nvidia were not planning to launch the 5070 at CES, just the 5080 and 5090.

AMD will be announcing their new card/s at CES around 8 hours ahead of NVIDIA and as discussed, they are not going after the high end segment this time, leaving it to NVIDIA. Nvidia has changed release plans and will go with 5070 to combat AMDs mid range.

I was completely with you thinking it would look like this £899 for 5070, £1,99 - £1,399 for 5080 - £1,799 - £1,999 for 5090.

£2.5K will price me out of upgrading to 5090 now but I would stretch to £1,899 - £1,999 at a push.

Fuck! Everyone must give Nvidia the silent treatment from here on.
Sounds kinda goofy, but who knows in this day'n age.

I probably will update my card to the 50 series. It's hard to believe that the 3080 is now 4 years old...

Buying a $2000-$2500 graphics card when 99% of games are currently being developed with PS5 as the target console is ridiculous. And people call the Pro a ridiculous value proposition. These things won't even be able to stretch their legs until actual an next gen console drops.

ps5 pro cant do native 4k. 4090 can above 100 in most games native. Not sure why are you comparing.

the 4090 will struggle if path tracing is on without dlss frame generation.

the 5090 is designed for 4k 240hz monitors or 4k 100+ path tracing without frame generation.

PS5 is not the target console. PS5 is considered the minimum specs along with the Series S. but the sky is the limit.

Just because Sony doesnt do focus on their PC ports to utilize much better texture and stuff on the PC doesnt mean these graphics cards are not needed.

Wukong look like a PS3 game compared to PC ultra settings with path tracing.

get some facts right my man before you post weird stuff.

I keep delaying replacing my 1080ti. There is no game I'm really into at the moment so have been putting off a new pc build for years.

I will see how POE2 Runs then maybe i will do full new build.

I've been PC gaming since the Voodoo 1 era, I get all of this. It doesn't change my opinion that spending up to $2500 on a gpu alone is absolutely retarded.

no one forced you to. There is always a better card every year or two. you do not have to upgrade and spend that much as if it's by force. doesn't make you less of a PC elite gamer or whatever you wanna call it if you decided to ride the 4090 for another generation or whatever card you are running

I sure as fuck won't be buying a 5090 if it's 2.5k. I'll wait for the generation after that and then ill grab a 5090 used for cheap. that is the beauty of the PC but you already know this.

I do agree with you that 2.5 is an insane price. That's 3500 Canadian plus tax. we are in a 4000$ card range if that is the price. they can shove that card up their ass if they expect me to pay that much for a card.

I paid 2300 Cad for my FE 4090 and I sitll think it's extremely expensive.

I know I don't have to buy it and I'm definitely not gonna buy it, I've always been a bang for the buck middle of the roader anyway. In the end all buying into this is going to do is make PC gaming unsustainable. People talk on this forum all the time about monopolies and arrogant companies, and NVidia is the absolute worst of the bunch. They may even rival 90s Microsoft. The real problem is AMD can't get their heads out of their asses long enough to make any gains on the GPU side of their business to counter it, Intel is still mehhh with their product lineup compatibility wise, and NVidia is basically the only game in town at this point. The community would be better off if everyone took a pass on a GPU generation at this point, but ePeening being what it is it's never gonna happen.

AMD lacks proper engineering team for their gpu. from the bad chiplet design to horrible FSR.. they cant get things right where Nvidia is doing circles around them its not even funny anymore to compare the 2 companies.

it sucks but its what its. just like what was said, vote with ur wallet. i sure as hell not spending 2.5K US or anything close to anything related to video games or PC even I can afford it. there is a line and 2.5k card for gaming purposes only is crossing that line.

my 3090 at ~$800 was a tough pill to swallow--most ive ever paid for a gpu
if the 5090 is over $2k, ill probably wait to get one

want a marantz av10 too... maybe cinema30

I disagree that they lack a proper engineering team. Look at how badly intel did with chiplets on CPU, yet AMD were able to get within 20% of the 4090 on their first chiplet GPU. (Yes their raytracing sucks, but imo that's a problem with their philosophy and not engineering). They just simply made bad bets on what they needed to be competitive. If they had dedicated hardware to do RT instead of putting it all on their shaders, they could have proper RT now, they simply chose not to. What screws them up is their marketing department time after time, pricing things too expensive at launch and then having to cut prices within a few months because nothing sells. If the 7900XTX launched at $800 instead of $1000, which they could easily do, they would have sold gangbusters.

I paid $1800, taxes in, for my 4090. $2500 is around the price I paid for the entire rig. $2500 for a single card is lunacy.

What are you talking about ? they used most of the size to get close to the 4090 leaving barely any space for ray tracing cores and ended up not close to the 4090 and sucking at ray tracing. They failed at both.

Rdna3 is fabbed on tsmc n5 and n6, lovelace is on n4 and the XTX is 80mm^2 smaller than the 4090. Just how big do you think RT cores are?

Has anyone used the Microcenter GPU trade in?
I would not mind spending the money to have them install the GPU for me, basically so I know the GPU is actually the real deal and not a box of metal or a shroud missing the processor.
I assume they unbox the new GPU plug it in and test it there in the store.
