Ghost of Yōtei gameplay deep dive 10th July (2pm PT // 5pm ET // 10pm UK)

I wonder if devs ever come into threads like this and just get really discouraged. I'm not sure what some of you want. It's a video game and a sequel at that.

That said ...

Visually I think it looks great. Not into the story or the gameplay after doing the first one though. So will either pass or wait to see what the reception is.

It's all subjective. There is some really positive opinions in this thread too.

Devs should keep it in mind not everyone will like or dislike what you offer

Good to hear Nate Fox is still kicking around.

The rest of it ...

Just finished catching up on it and I don't think I'll be buying it day one. To be fair, I didn't buy GoT day one, either. I did love GoT once I got around to it.

The problem for me is it doesn't differentiate itself that much from playing as Naoe in AC Shadows. There's so much overlap between the two that I probably still won't be in the mood for another Japanese samurai vengeance open world game, even in October. Maybe next year.

I'm definitely adding it to the wishlist and might snag a controller but from this video it's a wait-for-sale for me.

Don't remember Tsushima that well... Couldn't finish it despite trying it on three different occasions over the years, but... Is it possible to play it without hud or does the game rely on you seeing button prompts and outlines of enemies etc?
Might sound dumb, but these games look too gamey for me. Without all that hud, button prompt and enemy outline bullshit it would be far more interesting and relaxing.

Honestly…. Nah. I liked the first one well enough, but it overstayed its welcome. And I dropped the DLC after an hour. This is more of the same, with a less likable character (coming from someone who generally prefers female leads) I was bored halfway through the trailer. Also, I'm finding these types of videos more and more pretentious and up their own asses. Hard to sit through.

Just finished.

+It's beautiful just like the first game.
+Wolfpack (the game coming to you at your camp) is a smart idea.
+The director collaborations seem great.
+Character customization seems to have a ton of vareity
=Not sure I like the idea of a rock-paper-scissors weapon system
-They showed very little of your wolf companion which makes me think this will be pretty limited and this was something I was most excited about. I am curious what the other companions will end up being.

I had my fill of the original after doing everything on the first island segment (maybe 1/3rd of the total game) and I wasn't planning on getting Yōtei, but I'm moved to fence sitting now.

Day 1. But I do agree that the graphic is barely better than GoT. Some scenes look amazing though.
And Atsu looks ugly AF, when was the last time Sucker Punch make a good looking female character...

Not sure on this one. I really enjoyed the first game, along with GoW 2018 and HZD. The sequels to the latter two felt too rehashed. And they were super bloated and felt like they over stayed their welcome way too much. I am kind of getting the same vibe from this game. The first game already had too much on the map that I skipped through the last two areas and just did the story. I am not sure if I need another game.

Game looks absolutely gorgeous, so huzzah! I wonder if they'll have any improvements to the photo mode. Camera distance seems to be expanded at the very least.

Nice to see Atsu will be soothing her soul the hot springs like our boy Jin 😶‍🌫️

All in all the combat looks like it'll follow in the same vein as the OG in the best of ways. The new weapon system looks neat, though I think it would be more interesting to have to pick a weapon rather than having them all on the fly. That'd be a lot to design around though so I get it.

The card system for discovering quests and special locations is very neat. I always enjoy when you can spare an enemy. Especially when the game offers a trade off.

As for Atsu's story, I'm down for a classic revenge quest. I hope that there are ties to Jin's legend as the Ghost. Not in the sense that she's related, but maybe in learning techniques. She's not a samurai, so she won't have the same moral qualms he did most likely. I hope they explore something like that though. It was a really compelling part of Tsushima.

FINGERS CROSSED!

And god DAMN does that kintsugi PS5 look fine! I am too broke for this dammit!

Or they don't wanna spoil too much. Honestly, I think a lot of really new things are locked behind some important plot points and devs try to not reveal the too early.

One thing I don't like is the stupid enemy highlight, not sure why its there. Again attack indicators feel a bit much but I thought the same about GoT and eventually it didn't bother me. Also combat looks like GoT on lethal, no health sponging except bosses but that was expected

It looked slightly better than I expected. Seems like they are doing more to encourage exploration than in the original, which is nice. Now the question is if exploring will lead to interesting content and activities or if it's all just a bunch of repetitive stuff that gets boring after 10 hours like in the original. Are 90% of sidequests going to be more than following footsteps and killing the same 5 enemies?

Visually it looks nice, just like the first one it's not about the close up detail but more about the beautiful vistas and art direction. I'd much rather have this running at good resolutions and framerate on base Ps5 instead of better graphics with framedrops at upscaled 800p.

The graphical fidelity between this and the years old Rift Apart is extreme. The lighting and textures are complete dog in Yotei.

To be fair, not many games have the graphical fidelity of Ratchet, not even Insomniacs own Spider Man 2

But, Ratchet isn't really an open world game in the vein of Ghost or Spider Man, and its cartoon style also helps with that, even the PS4 Ratchet still looks mazing today and thats a generation old. Basically, different games, different targets/focus. the Ghost games are more about the spectacle, the scenery, colours, locations. A lot of emphasis is put on the grass and wind systems for example.

I hope you are correct. They also mentioned multiple companions. I could see this going two ways:

A.) Specific companions are limited to certain story missions.
B.) You have a stable of companions and can pick who comes along with you if anyone at all.

We know there is a wolf, but also looks like there is a bear (you can see it in the photo mode section)

There was quite a lot of titbits that were not eleborated much, especially the Wolf Pack.

I agree, Ratchet certainly is nice looking. But i am also used to seeing big jumps of visuals in all Sony exclusives, and we ain't seeing any of it here. I just can't get over the fact that GoT was made for a 2013 system with Jaguar cpu's, and it looks almost identical to the sequel that isn't even out yet. Not my expectations from Sony 1st party studios.

This honestly looks no different to the last game.

I don't know what I expected but it was more than they just showed for sure.

Just looks like a more refined better Ghost of Tsuhima and Assassin's Creed Shadows.

And whilst that's not a bad thing, it's also not a great thing either, it's just too generic and overdone at this point.

Can't help you with your eyesight, the texture resolution is literally 4x higher, objective reality disagrees with you ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I mean you've got to be pretty dense to actually take my facetious comment to heart, but the textures are a joke, I expected a large improvement over the first game, not this half step

-Looks fantastic, Not dramatically different from the first game, but an improvement.
-Gameplay is also similar. That's not a bad thing. More weapons is a plus.
-Like how upgrades are all done at rest stops. No more hunting down vendors and such
-Photo mode looks amazing

All looks good to me. A good preview

Good showing. My hype coming into this was pretty low, especially just after finishing AC Shadows, but I like all the new QoL improvements and new features in the game that they showed. The exploration is what I loved most about GoT, and it looks like they've expanded on that in GoY. So I'm back on the train and don't need to see anymore. I'll be there day 1.
