Quotas being met. Atsu might be gay or trans.

Well, she's not white, so at least she won't fuck the dog.

Small wins!

Looks good, glad it's only a year out because the discourse around this is going to be nauseating.

I can already see the "Woke of Tsushima?!" thumbnails...
Ghost of Wokei*

And yeah I think it's dumb. Female protag doesn't mean woke, and I don't think the actress will have any input on the development of the game. Why should her?

Because the odds are they will somehow force messaging into this game due to her own activism.
Since when do actors dictate the direction of an entire game production? If their previous work is any indication, there were no woke elements and they were celebrated in Japan for their authenticity. I can understand being concerned, but people are jumping the gun and have already condemned the game with zero actual indications. This is purple forum level stuff.

'Successful'.

What is a successful franchise without the main character dude... but if you wanna play something like Assassins Creed I not gonna stop you dude.
Who is the main character in Resident Evil, dude?
Metal Gear Solid 2, 3 and V are part of a very successful franchise and sold very well themselves.
BioShock has a different protagonist for each game in the trilogy.
Call of Duty has different protagonists every iteration, Modern Warfare's main protagonist is Price and in the original trilogy you play him in like 2 missions the entire story.
Deus Ex has a different character in the reboot

I can certainly keep going, but I think you're smart enough to see you're wrong.

CD Project made the same stupid mistake, saying they gonna replace Geralt for another character and I complained as well. Geralt is the Witcher mascot.
This is why I’m glad I.P. like Castlevania, Silent Hill, and Final Fantasy never fell into this pit trap. Never being able to switch a protagonist because of fandom pressure sounds awful.

One of the worst examples of this will always be Goku/Gohan.

LOL what?

I'm talking about this franchise. And how many times they go back and back to the classic one?

Are you even crazy to put Metal Gear Solid 2? You know that game was crontroversial because they remove the main character right?

Please re-read my post again before putting list war. I can reply you with a even bigger list than that mediocre list of yours, but I not here to do list war.

The graphics don't bother me that much. I think it's another Elden Ring situation where the environments and art style are more important than graphical fidelity.
I would have loved wukong fidelity tbh, great art design and fidelity are not mutual exclusives, especially in a game with a realistic artstyle like this one.

We knew the game was about to have great art design after tsushi1.

You knew damn well I was talking about game franchises in general. I specifically asked if you were struggling to come up with successful franchises that switch characters. If you're going far with that goalpost on your back, I'm not chasing you.

I like how we all called it would be "Ghost" of something lol

I'm happy its in a period the developers like as one of my few complaints with Ghost 1 was that it seemed they borrowed like waaaaaay too much from Edo period for a game set hundreds of years prior, I get they like the films and things around that time, but I felt it should have not been so much into that game lol

So being in Edo period is a plus.

I do worry on how dated it looks as, this looks a lot like the engine from last gen, does anyone got an answer on if this is a updated engine or?
I don't get the complaints about graphics? GoT has never been a graphical showcase,
wow, nahhh i greatly disagree, when that game was first revealed, it looked so good, we fucking thought it was a PS5 reveal title lol

At its release, it was 100% a thing people talked about as I'd argue The Last Of Us 2 and Ghost Of Tsushima where massive games regarding graphic

https://www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-2018-ghost-of-tsushima-gameplay-debut-tech-analysis

You can read folks impression on that game online

"Looking at its stunning opening vista shot, you'd be forgiven for thinking this is running on future Sony hardware - a prototype PlayStation 5, perhaps. At first glance, the environment animation, particle effects and lighting look a generation ahead"

If you didn't think that, that is ok, but I'm simply pointing out that majority didn't see this as some ugly game or dated looking or anything like that.

GoY seems to be doing the exact same and this what I wanted
Thats fine, but this also seems like they are also using that exact engine too, like....exact. It doesn't look bad, but it also doesn't look new, I almost thought it was DLC or something and was even waiting for it to say PS4/PS5 and felt SlimySnake SlimySnake was going to be all over em lol

Either way, this doesn't look like its pushing those boundaries like the first and that might be why we are even seeing it THIS early, its likely cause they opted to use the exact same engine to speed up dev time.
I also don't get the social commentary about this? MC is a woman and so? This is a video game

Me neither but....prepare yourself for the usual suspects to attack this game to death with measuring her chin.

Doesn't help that its following Concord or made by Sony, they'll just use that as ammo to attack the game regardless. This is a work of fiction, but you'll see many argue against this character acting as if they are doing it in the name of um "accuracy"

Just so we’re all on the same page

I’m still buying it
I’m still playing it
I’m still gonna bitch about it

But in the end I really don’t give a shit 🤷🏻‍♂️

I love the first ghost so regardless I will absolutely be buying this day 1.

But, is it me or did this looks exactly like ghost 1?

The first game, tsushima, was tedious and unimaginative. A cheap ubisoft clone. The praise came from various weeaboo spawns across the west.

lol ...I agree.

I like the first game, got it day 1 and I agree lol

Its doing lessor with less features and less elements and how anyone can argue such a concept was superior was beyond me. I think Ghost can only be helped with a lot of the elements in AC actually added to it.

Here me out folks..

Based building
Build your Samurai clan that fight along side you
Go to different islands in real time by boat with your clan
real time season system.

None of that sounds like it would hurt Ghost IP lol

At least the strong female protagonist is not a black woman this time.

The game looks like a DLC indeed. Considering how Tsushima was technically on the higher end of the PS4 and they probably have a much higher budget this time, it's very disappointing to see it looking like a last gen game.

Also noticed the poetic license of adding temples and pagodas to the scenery of Hokkaido. I know the game is not realistic, but they had better options of regions to explore...

I'd actually agree that much of the gameplay was not particularly unique. It was a lot of Far Cry-style base capture, escort missions, etc.

But the whole vibe was so chill, combat felt natural, and stuff like duels really elevated it for me. But I do think there's a lot of valid criticism for its gameplay.

That said, I think this looks awesome, and I like that they went with the "spiritual successor" route with the story rather than simply continuing with Jin, whose story was wrapped up nicely. I wonder if his legend as the Ghost is what inspires the protag in this one.

You are the one moving goalpost lol.

You put Resident Evil without knowing I skipped RE2 from this particular case.

And don't think you are the first one to put Resident Evil franchise in a conversation about replacing the main characters because people do this a lot when lack argument. Same happens on the old neoGAF, than resetera and now neoGAF again. You are not the first one dude.

But hey, feel free to put more games on that list.

I get your point, but the main reason GoT was unique because unlike AC they got a main character with charisma. Well, now they are just forcing the point of GoT being a AC clone.

Just remembered this game will have some amazing combat. It was so satisfying in GoT, especially with the Dualsense features.

I mean just play fucking AC then. Why do you need another game exactly like AC? That sounds nonsense.

I used to like AC, but after Unity, Odyssey and damn Valhalla, I'm done. The series feels like a homework where you work to collect icons around the map. Ghost of Tsushima doesn't feel like that at all. It's altmost the same as RDR2 imo, which doesn't have all that crap to make it feel like a second job lol

Some uncompressed shots from PS Blog for the naysayers.

It looks fantastic, extra point for skipping the photorealistic trend and goind hard on stylized art-style.

Literally LOLing at the people downplaying the visuals here or claiming it's last gen

It looks like artwork, and I'm pretty sure this is just running on the basic PS5 since they didn't say it was captured from a PS5 Pro.
