I hope they go full cartoon mode and turn Slimer into a sidekick.

Looks better than the Star Wars reboot, but then again, it has better source material to work with.

I'm not saying that to troll for rage, it's how I actually feel. Ghostbusters 1984 >>> Star Wars 1977

This is a really strange post.

Looks better than expected. I'll rent it when it comes home, which is a huge step up from my initial "I'll never see that shit" attitude. They've won me over a bit.

This is a really strange post.

Troll post or not, trying to take the conversation down a "Ghostbusters vs Star Wars" path is pretty dumb. Best everyone just ignores that bait.

Wait, why am I sexist? I think this looks great. I've been skeptical of the reboot since it was first announced. Ghostbusters is my number 1 most nostalgic thing ever, and I feel protective of it, yet I'm totally down for this.

Lol, not you. That's a shot from revenge of the nerds.

why is everyone trying to be funny? the whole schtick with the original gang is you had intentionally funny Venkman, sincere but unintentionally funny Stantz, straight-laced but unintentionally funny Spengler, and everyman Zeddemore.

everyone in this trailer is cracking jokes.

I think that's been standard procedure for a few years now. Everyone is "the funny one" in comedy casts now.

This looks pretty good. Cast is alright except for the black chick from SNL. She just isn't funny. Who's doing the theme?

The black lady being the uneducated urban flavor that will more than undoubtedly be the sass and token ethnic character is starting to get me upset.

Ernie Hudson was NOT that guy.

Looks really good. A couple of parts didn't land for me but I love the tone and aesthetic.

Most of all it looks full of energy and everyone seems really into it, especially McKinnon.

Cant wait

My fear is the reliance on gross-out/slapstick. Ghostbusters rarely relied on that stuff, and that's part of why I still love the shit out of it. It barely even relied on the ghostbusting parts. They'd only fire their proton packs like twice per movie. The charm was in all the snark and witticisms. They're pretty dry movies compared to most of what comes out today, but the actors come off as clever as shit.

I just fear that they're going to sacrifice that nuance for easy sight-gags.

I feel the exact same way. From what I remember GB was never about slapstick comedy, more situational comedy and a dry comedy for the most part. (Murray shocking the guy at the beginning of the first movie as an example), and more of a darker theme and serious tone. This looks much more lighthearted and, as you said, gross-out/slapstick.

Too safe, too clean, too generic. It's a shame the bravest they dared to be was with the casting, and even raiding the past and present SNL cast isn't much of a maverick move anyway.

So storywise;
- We have a startup of scientists, whose main goal is to find and capture ghosts
- Right after they start, their services are needed, as something is triggering and increasing paranormal activity around the city
- They receive the help of a black person, who has no knowledge of hunting ghosts
- They get a run-down car as a means of transportation
- There's two really smart scientists who figure it all out, the third is just a so-so scientist

This all sounds strangely familiar, guys....

Just following Ghostbusters 2's lead.

I like it. Some jokes didn't exactly hit, but it was enjoyable and I liked the synthetic way of the theme song being played. Slimer looked pretty good at a glimpse too. The cast seems okay enough, and Kate McKinnon is one hell of a gorgeous woman with her hair like that.

But holy hell at the like and dislike bar. Practically even.

This soooo much.

It so helped with the tone of the original films as they were serious at certain times and you could take them that way due to certain characters being more serious.

This just seemed like let's get 4 people together and do ghost gags.

True. I just meant she plays the same role as Winston, but has the added problem of being handed sassy black lady on top of it.

So... she's not playing the same role as Winston?

Hearing people talk/complain about this movie is tiring. If they were perfect replications of the original cast, that wouldn't be good, bring their own thing? Not good either. Reboot? Horrible idea! Soft reboot that keeps intact the original? Stupid! etc etc.

As for the trailer, I don't think it was cut the best, but the movie itself looks like it could be pretty good. I want to go back and watch the original trailers, its not like they had a laugh a minute and neither did this. Lots of just like 'heh' moments, but might work better in the context of a scene, minus the leslie jones slapping bit.

I do wish that movies based on older franchises shot on film and used more practical effects to keep the feel in line with the older ones. That's more jarring to me than anything else.

Looks like fun, if not nearly as good as the original classic.

That being said, how is anyone being laughed off by the scientific community for claiming that ghosts are real in that universe? After all the shit the entire city witnessed in the old movies?

It's a reboot and not a sequel.

The trailer is a little deceptive in that regard.

Tell that to Ghostbusters 2!

I try not to judge off single trailers too much, but I'm not feeling too optimistic after that.

The worst part is going to be the shitstorm it's going to create when it comes out.

All the negativity makes me laugh.

Ghostbusters is a very 80s movie and trying to make/recapture that for today just wouldn't work.

When this was first announced they said it was a remake so not exactly sure why people expected it to be like the original two?

Supposedly the "30 years ago" is just for (misleading) marketing and the original ghostbusters never existed in this universe.

You're right. As someone else pointed out this chick is almost playing a mammie, whereas Hudson wasn't particularly embarrassing. Both seem to be playing "the help" though. I think McCartney would have been better and less offensive in the role, replacing her spot in the elite, business-owning, PHD, group with someone non-white.

Looks good to me.

"the hat is too much?" made me laugh.

The wording in the trailer ready makes this sound like a sequel... Curious.. Anyway, I'm sure my son will love it.

I kinda liked it but I'm not totally feeling it. Also, is this a reboot or is it in the same continuity as the originals? (Since the trailer mentions the original team)

If anything Leslies character comes across as a step backwards compared to Ernies.

Hudson played a common sense guy who just needed a job and didn't really believe the shit going on until he saw it first hand and his race was never really played up

Leslies character as revealed so far is basically look at the simple black lady doing stereotypical black lady behavor
