Yeah, DKC1+3 could be wiped from existence and I wouldn't care but DKC2 is still one of the pinnacles of 2D platforming to me.

I think pretty much any of the three DKC games that Rare did are better games than Super Mario Sunshine.

You should play them. They're good, despite some issues.

Most of the issues are to do with interface design and archaic gameplay holdovers, rather than the core platforming.

Also, the Donkey Kong Country trilogy are one of the best in 2d platforming.

Returns and Tropical Freeze are even better.

Donkey Kong 64 is hot garbage though. All of Rare's 3D platformers are bad.
