That seems dumb considering that BB had no intentions of turning any of the sites into anything more than blogs.

I thought BB just acquired the equipment and PCs? Isn't that why GB had to order a ton of new gear like tricasters? Didn't Vinny complain about how in a big company he had to sign 4 release forms to get a cable instead of just billing it like he did in the Whiskey Media days?

BB didn't really look like it had its shit together, probably why it doesn't exist any more. But yeah, their intention was to port their sites over to WM's publishing platform. IIRC Coonce worked on bringing some mother and baby site over.

Given that Tested has barely had any site updates in the last couple years, I don't think they have many engineers left working on it.

Yeah, they got the hardware too.

Give it 3 months and he'll be somewhere else.

Edit: Scratch that. He has moved on. Looking at his Linkedin profile it seems like he doesn't work at Zynga anymore and he advises for a couple smaller companies.

I think that one was out of his control. Zynga had huge layoff after he joined.

To be fair it isn't that uncommon to move around frequently in management and the guy is clearly looking for something and hasn't found it yet by the looks of it.

Pretty much.

CBS wanted the site and the user base only. they had their own tech and engineers.

BB wanted the distillery publishing platform and most of the engineers on a years contract (they all left shortly after). To do the deal they agreed to take the other sites and all the equipment. They found a home for Tested but the rest has since been wound up. The tech might well still be rusting away in a storage locker for all we know (Will mentioned that was it's fate at the time).

I think WhaleCock still does okay. It changed it's name because the two B's that were the partnership split. They are in to TV production (hence sucking up to Adam Savage) and websites was just a side venture. Who knows, maybe they managed to licence Distillery out and make a profit on the deal.

Vinny/Alex combo is so good! I really enjoyed this QL, especially since I was actually thinking about purchasing The Masterplan

There's only one #Masterplan for me.

This explains Oculus "temporarily" dropping Linux/Mac support in their SDK.

About that Vive...

Makes more sense than going through the trouble of making and marketing a new controller.
Not really. You really need a controller with position tracking support in VR. This just feels like a stop-gap.

Giant Bomb talks over the 2015 Steam Summer Sale:

"It's fucked! Can't buy anything! GTAV was $25 for like 5 minutes as an error before they fixed it!"

That virtual living room was a pretty laughable application. "Oh boy, now I can sit in my living room and pretend I'm playing games in a living room!"

At least if it had the style of that VR Arcade thing they played on UPF a while back, I could see the point, but a sterile virtual living room is just boring in every way possible.

Sounds like Oculus is taking the current gen strategy: Here! Shiny new hardware! ... wait, games? Who the fuck cares about games? HARDWARE! I'm sure games will come.... eventually.

They really should just come out and say "look we're designing porn for this."

3D artists are already designing oculus-supported "programs."

I'm not even watching the stream because I know it's just a PR stunt.

You know, I'm going to come out and say it: I honestly don't get the hype about VR. From everything I've seen and heard, I don't see a single game that is better played with it.

It strikes me as another Kinect situation, where the tech sounds interesting, but isn't quite there, and there's nothing that shows me why I should own it.

I am dreading the long segment during the Sony presser where they talk about Morpheus. It's going to be so fucking boring.

VR is the wet dream of a bunch of tech enthusiasts and one of those "future technologies" fantasized about by authors of scifi.

Now when Holodecks start to exist, that's when I'll be foaming at the mouth.

so am I not able to get GTA V for anything less than 60 dollars

what a shitty sale

There's someone behind the scenes with a smirk on their face after that GTAV sale was posted. So many clicks and almost certainly almost everyone who did was unpleasantly surprised. I already own a PC copy and I still clicked out of surprise that it was already getting a decent discount even though it's been in like the top 3 top sellers for months. Sneaky sneaky.

ony GTAV could get away with going down to $30 then $20 then here our sale is that the game is at full fucking price go eat a bag of dicks, all of which happened within 15 minutes

goddamn temperamental steam sales

There's been so much buzz about it from people who have tried it that there has to be something there.

But personally I'm pretty claustrophobic, and putting on a headset and not being able to really know my surroundings sounds like fucking hell on earth. I will never touch a VR headset because of it.

In general I think it will remain a niche product at least the first generation. The Morpheus one is probably the one who has the biggest chance of mass appeal, but that depends on price and software. I agree with what Jeff has said about the difficulty of marketing VR; showing games being played on a stage just looks lame, you have to really go all in with getting them in actual stores.

Cockpit style games are the games with the most to gain immediately. I cannot wait to play Elite Dangerous in VR. Track IR adds a lot, and VR would be so much better.
