There's no way Jeff would be able to give Witcher 3 the time it will invariably ask of players. I look forward to their discussion of the game, but I don't think I would get any value out of a review from Giant Bomb.

What else is there for him to review or play?

This is the new games list on Giantbomb

W2RAWi3.jpg

If this game was called Elder Scrolls they would have made the time.

Right now the game has a ton of buzz around it and its following a game they had on their top ten in 2011.

And all the coverage we are expecting from them is a Vinny tweet that the game came out or a 2 minute thing in the bombcast where they mention that the game came out and that none of them will ever play it?

I know it's an oft-repeated point but it's Giant Bomb's GOTY. Their GOTY. What appeals to them. If Witcher 3 doesn't appeal to them enough for them to sink their hours into it - well, too bad I guess.

I mean it's the same thing I'm not toooooooo cut up about Wolf being ignored last year for Destiny. If they had really liked it that much more than destiny they would've said so instead of drowning in Destiny trying to find something of value in it

And if Dan shows up again with tinny iPhone pulls from the bottom of his soundtrack choice, we'll get another winner in that category consisting of one song. :p

Dude quote your image so that it isn't some massive thing people have to scroll through right at the top of the page.

Since no one took me up on my avatar bet before, I assume that most people here agree that Giant Bomb doesn't really emphasize reviews any more.

If the bet was about GB shifting away from reviews, then that is probably why!

Didn't they talk about doing short videos or articles with "impressions" instead of reviews? Kind of like they do on the bombcast anyway: "Hey I've played a bit of this and am enjoying it, not qualified to give a full review but I like it anyway".
I hate the idea of there being little or no content during a busy period because each staff member is reviewing a 50+ hour game.

EDIT: Jeff should be made exclusive JRPG Reviewer for a few months, it would be a riot.

Jeff's still playing through Bloodborne right?

Actually, that two of them have finished Bloodborne, a third is playing it, and no one has reviewed it should indicate that whilst the Witcher will probably get coverage, expecting a timely review is probably going to leave you disappointed.

Giant Bomb just doesn't review that much stuff anymore. They give their opinions in other mediums.

That's kind of why I'm always surprised people like the GOTY podcast stuff so much. It's just a mess to me. That and a lot of the E3 stuff is just too much chaos and too many opinions flying that way all at the same time.

I did like the murder house E3 stream though.

i have the first game and have never played it

It's kinda OK.

Just very dumb. Super dumb. Mindless fun to play through at least.

I'll get ReBirth 2 on steam because I'm an idiot.

so neptunia is supposed to be all about console wars, right

it's a shame that the lamest game on earth had to roll with that A+ concept

It's barely about the console wars.

You can remove that aspect and no one would blink an eye.

You basically gotta go into it expecting to disagree with a bunch of stuff and realising its just a knife fight for people's personal favourites, not some objective measure of quality. That said, I've probably agreed with their choices for the past few years for the GOTY winners.

Also, I think it's totally worth it all for the Hottest Mess/Most Disappointing/Please Stop/Worst Game awards.

I like the battle system in the ReBirth games enough to get through them. also I actually think they're kind of funny in places.

I don't actually care if GB cover them, they'd probably just show the first half hour of story and then quit and who cares

The funniest thing about that game for me is that the dub somehow gives Neptune the weirdest creeper voice.

This is what I want to say, but you said it better. I, because I'm stubborn, will try anyway.

I don't watch Giant Bomb because of their impeccable taste in games; I watch because they have an imperfect, personal taste in games. The GOTY casts allow them to talk, argue, laugh, and reflect about the games they played all year. I love the chaos because chaos is human.

This Dracula X Chronicles version of SOTN keeps crashing on me after the cutscene after you do the thing to make the reverse castle appear.

Boooo.

I guess my time with this game is over.

Did you equip the crystal and kneel at the fountain?

Seriously though, that sucks. Did you enjoy what you played? I played a little back in the day but have been considering going back to play the PSone classic.

Ah man that sucks. I have Dracula X Chronicles but I never made it far in that version of SOTN. Are you playing on a UMD?

PSN version on Vita. Tried playing PS1 version emulated on PC but the dang Xbox 360 d pad was a pain.

Googling it and it seems like its a pretty regular problem with that version that sometimes happens if you do a transformation then go to another area or load a cutscene. The problem here being you have to do a transformation to even reach the boss.

Actually hmmm... Maybe I can try cheese my way with the gravity boots over there.

Nah it sucked because it was easy and relied entirely on the promise of a mechanic that it never fulfilled.

I was talking about the year as the whole. Feel free to denigrate what essentially amounts to a game constructed entirely out of dull Western design tropes.

As Wilhem Shakesman once said, an Ubisoft game by any other name would play as poorly.

It really only sucked if you wanted a new AAA game to show off the new console you stupidly bought based on hype.

Very little of the smaller stuff grabbed me either, especially compared to Gone Home, Guacamelee, Year Walk, Papers Please, Tearaway, and Device 6 in 2013.

I guess it might just be because it was following the best year of the last generation but yeah, nothing really stood out.

Looking even at the top 10 besides Mordor; Bayonetta 2, Far Cry 4, Hearthstone, Advanced Warfare, should start to tell you why Mordor won.

It was a weak year mostly.

Gone Home is infuriating. I hate that the house is very clearly divided into an evil half and a good half. What. Why are all the doors locked. Who lives like that. None of this makes any sense. The few times it does it, Shenmue does a better job of the dig through all this person's shit thing, and I was pretty excited for a game that was entirely that. Nope. Just some trite shit.

Year Walk's legit, though. Serious talent in making a scary phone game that isn't just gore porn.

I'd take Transistor, Shovel Knight, and the Fall over all those small games (but I want to try Device 6).

I mean I get the locked door stuff. The part I adore about the game is the story. The writing is so fucking on-point, it hit me real hard. It's such a unique story for a video game, but it's also told in a way only the medium can allow.

Device 6 is such a clever game. They're the same studio as Year Walk as well. Really talented guys.

Apologies for bringing it up, what situation are you in, Taylor?
I've got 10K left on my student loan and I'd have paid it off this year if my Mum didn't have a brain tumour removed in January. If New Zealand didn't have interest free student loans and universal healthcare I'd be financially screwed.

Brad secretly staying home this week on WITCHER DUTY!

Everyone seemed really into the idea of Witcher 3 every time it comes up so maybe we'll see significant coverage.

But I'm looking at the top 10 besides Mordor and I can't see why Mordor would win with at least one clearly better game right there next to it.

Reckon anyone from the crew has been playing TW3 yet? Seems like a Brad or Vinny kinda job, but I'm not sure Vinny would have time to get all he could out of TW3 with the two kids. So maybe that's why Brad was out of the office.

Oh boy... Hope everything is ok with that, went through similar stuff last year.
