FWWM feels like some sort of fanfic that was made by someone who didn't understand that less is more. How i had imagined those events was much less lamer than how FWWM presents them.

a shame, really.

Eh, I saw it as a guy who hated what the show had become and wanted to return to the part he loved. Sometimes he forced it a little too much, but overall I think it has some of the best elements and scenes from anything Twin Peaks. That first dinner scene at the Palmers, Laura entering her room, the pink room scene, some of that stuff is just amazing.

I must be one of the only ones that really likes FWWM in it's entirety.

You're not alone. Outside of the finale I think it's the best thing Twin Peaks related.

Dan should watch all Twin Peaks, then play Deadly Premonition and Life is Strange.

It will be a rich, full, weird day for him.

The finale was designed as a last-ditch effort to not be cancelled, and nothing is resolved in it. I liked it fine, but it's hardly a satisfying ending to the series.

If you watch Twin Peaks you'll also learn that the only good parts of Deadly Premonition are directly stolen from it

yeah, down to some of the soundtrack being almost 1:1 with the show.

That swery says he wasn't heavily influenced by TP is a load of shit. but i get it, you don't want to get your pants sued off.

fire walk with me is fantastic, just on its own merits

there's obviously a lot of tp in dp but 1:1 is going overboard, especially on stuff like the soundtrack which is way different

thats because they had to change a lot of it

Rainy Woods

Deadly Premonition began its life as a game called Rainy Woods, which was shown at Tokyo Game Show 2007. Many bloggers criticized the game's obvious references and similarities to the 1990 television show, Twin Peaks, which led the game developers to scale the references back somewhat.

Changes between Rainy Woods and Deadly Premonition include:

A pair of dwarves modeled after The Man From Another Place were replaced with the twins, Isaach and Isaiah Ingram.

A protagonist named David Young Henning, whose name may have been too similar to Twin Peaks' Dale Cooper, was replaced with a tougher-looking Francis York Morgan.

The physical appearance of the sheriff who became George Woodman was changed to look less like the sheriff of Twin Peaks, Harry S. Truman.

there are at least a handful of tracks that sound almost identical to the TP soundtrack.

just compare this to this and tell me those two aren't almost the same exact song

I really kinda hope they do what they've mentioned for MGSV and record an entire series of it while Drew plays through it, then not releasing it until well into 2016.

the whole vibe of the two soundtracks is pretty different, dp has those jazzy/funky tracks and all that guitar strummin' and whistlin'. that's not to say that the more dramatic, ambient songs aren't taking inspiration from badalamenti but even the two songs you linked are hardly 1:1. just gotta agree to disagree here, i guess.

thats because they had to change a lot of it

sure, but i can only talk about the end product and the end product definitely has an identity of its own

daydream,

no one is arguing that Deadly Premonition isn't its own thing

But no one is delusional enough to thing that DP would exist in a world where Twin Peaks never happened

Clearly they "paid homage" to TP in many ways, from the story to the music to the setting and more.

As someone who loves both things, I have zero qualms with this. Theyre not 1:1 but the venn diagram for DP and TP overlap a whole lot.

yeah, i literally acknowledged the strong influence across the board and just defended the game against the '1:1' reproach you made

repeating my position and presenting it as something i'm opposed to is nice rhetorics but i'm not sure it was necessary

Is the player for the site absolutely fucked for anyone else? Using Chrome on Windows 8, and every time I try to watch the Rare Replay video it stops 5 seconds in and ends the video.

They should do that but not tell anyone about it and then one day the first episode just pops up.

That video's broken on HD quality.

All this MGS talk got me to go back into Ground Zeros.

Did the anti air side mission and got my sneak on evacuating all the prisoners and planting C4. Then blew all the C4 and they call in a tank!

Fun times. All the systems felt like they fell into place for me.

Also trying to get over my MGS compulsion to just use the tranq gun. Got so many more options once I let that go.

Anything of note come out of the EA thing?

I've been replaying Ground Zeroes a lot lately, too. Getting my skills back up. Still not sure if I prefer M+KB or gamepad. Gamepad makes movement and menu navigation a lot easier, but popping off headshots with a mouse in key situations makes the game go a lot more smoothly. Hmmmmm.

Been trying to get S on the assassination daytime mission, since I can already clear Ground Zeroes itself in about 10 minutes with an S rank. It just plays so damn well, at least that part will be fun even if the story isn't worth a damn.

And I agree, the tranq guns completely break every MGS game. They shouldn't give it to you by default, save it for NG+ or something.

Ground Zeros started me on the path to ignoring stealth and I think I'm going to just mainly run and gun in Phantom Pain. Seems like the game will be more fun that way.

Since the game is already well into Big Boss's start of darkness, it makes sense thematically for him to give less fucks about ghosting non-lethal tactics and just waste people as he sees fit. Unless of course he wants to kidnap them with a balloon.

I've asked before why Jeff's never appeared on an episode of Retronauts. That's a show that definitely seems like it hits a rolodex problem.

The problem for Jeff is that when he is done working he wants to head north to get home. Retronauts records out of work hours and in space they are renting that I bet is closer to SF.

PAX is never worth the hassle it causes to GB content. I have no idea why they keep going.

Save the budget, attend one of the foreign shows, and get a weeks worth of unique compelling content instead. One video of the walking down a street in Japan would be better than the whole of PAX

"Dan in Japan" is a pretty solid name for a show BTW.

Not a huge fan of what they put out for PAX but all three PAX shows is likely a budget comparable to TGS and TGS is just at the wrong time of year for them.

Since they hang out with friends it is probably more popular than TGS with the staff. I bet the budget exists for all of the shows if they actually wanted to go.

Chris Kohler, Jeremy Parish, Jeff Gerstmann, Shane Betanhausen. Someone might end up dead by the end of the show, but it'll be a great podcast.

Get a bigger table and add Peter Brown and Frank Cifaldi (or at least Cifaldi from 5 years ago before he became such a twat on twitter).

They like to joke about Jeff's "museum grade" collection but he just keeps the games he likes. Brown and Kohler might very well be trying to "catch them all".

my favorite MGS strategy is just to run and tranq or cqc. basically move as fast as possible while not setting off alarms
Ah, the old race to get to the next cutscene asap strategy.

Yeah that certainly helps, it also seems like they've added a number of tools you won't get to use if you focus on stealth.

I'm sure he means well but he can be really insufferable sometimes. I think someone retweeting one of his tirades is what finally made me snap and nuke several dozen people I was following

I don't have the energy in my life to keep up with what other people are angry about anymore

It is like pushy religions. I don't mind you having you thing - and might even respect your core beliefs - but I don't want you knocking on my door at all hours yelling about how I am a heathen and going to hell.
