the various gawker sites are always quick to deflect criticisms of other gawker sites by saying that they don't have control over what other sites do. and while I understand that, the "yo, that shit ain't us" defense only works for so long before it's like, listen, the people who pay you condone this behavior. you don't get to pretend that you're somehow removed from it.

Uh, this article can be read in such a way that the author is an accessory to blackmail. If you pair that behavior with the Hogan stuff, there's a pattern of conduct that would make Gawker, as the supervising entity, chargeable under the RICO Act.
So, uh...
Edit: I'm probably wrong about the RICO stuff in relation to Hogan, but, if one were to dig, you might find more Gawker crap like the escort article. Then, it's a pattern.
