Kind of a bummer that Drew said he wasn't planning on watching trailers before they sat down and watched all of them.

rest assured drew will barely even remember what a big boss is when he starts playing

I'm a little ways into MGSV (11ish missions, 10ish side ops) and man, I wish I hadn't watched any trailers. Practically every single cutscene I've encountered so far has already been shown to an extent, even a couple "surprise" ones (thinking specifically of the medical platform thing). Trailers for previous games would give away some stuff, but not everything (well, except GZ, which did literally show everything ahead of time). Hopefully there's a lot of insanity later on in the game.

This game does not have many cutscenes that's why.

Yeah, I started to have that sinking feeling as time went on that literally everything has been shown in trailers already.

MGSV is great but I see Drew having a frustrating time. Doesn't help that he hates open world games. Doubt he'll be arsed getting the true ending.

Getting the true ending really isn't that much of a hassle, took me maybe 3 hours after getting the original ending and only an hour of that was repeating old quests. The second to last mission is a massive pain in the ass difficulty wise though.

And MGS V has plenty of cutscenes, especially if you count the optional ones you get for visiting mother base. It's just spread out over a much longer playtime. I really think if you took out all of the codec calls from the other games it would end up being very similar.

The trailers are put together in a way that shows you everything but presents things in a way that's so incredibly misleading. There are a few key parts I'm thinking of, but there's one specific moment that when it's shown in game makes that part in the trailer the most effective troll work I've seen from a game in a long ass time.

Are you talking about
Quiet's ending
? Because that's not required to see the true ending. Though that mission was a pain in the ass.

Well it's not really much of an open world game, there's nothing in-between camps. I played the entire game and never wandered around without purpose, I just took my chopper where I needed to go. The true ending isn't really that difficult to unlock, all it takes is doing a few extra missions.

Personally I think most of those beefy cutscenes (like briefing and such) have been replaced by the tapes in MGSV, which is good and bad I guess, since the game itself takes so much time, putting the info dump stuff on as like a podcast while traversing the openworld or the mother base doing inane shit makes a lot of sense for me, also they are mostly non essential but if you're into the lore you'll probably be trying to get all the shit you can in the game into your head, so doesn't really matter.

Only thing is its not linear at all, so people expecting regular old MGS like usual might be bummed, as you have to bridge some of those gaps and loose ends as against kojima in his own butt fucked way doing it for you. But then again kojima has done so much shitting on peoples expectation by now that if you're still expecting kojima to be stop being a weirdo then, keep waiting I guess.

Which is kind of an issue because in between bases is always just several outposts that you either detour around when possible, D-Horse it assuming you're not traveling on a jeep, or deal with it for a few resources and possible A+ recruits.

Chopper is valid but expensive and terrible as far as fast travel goes, with all the wait time for chopper arrival, extraction, insertion, and then load times and deployment fees.
Cardboard box travel is better.

was just doing some folder spring cleaning and stumbled upon this, my original pitch to ren for a bombcast thread design:

i like how we went from a template for all future threads to forty different designs

The problem with the delivery points in the world is that you have to sneak into a base to use them and they won't work if guards are on an alert stage.

Looks like we found the OP for this week's Bombcast thread.

MGSV - Story Missions late 20s talk

Holy shit,

apparently just pausing and choosing return to acc will skip the wait and departure on the chopper, but you'll still have the cost of re-deploying so I haven't done it yet

usually i do some clean up/more fultoning after a mission, and i don't want to lose that. I can never tell if i hit return to ACC if it will cancel out any of the stuff i did after "completing" the mission

You lose anything after your last checkpoint save. Thankfully checkpoints happen pretty frequently so if you travel a bit after cleaning up you'll trigger a new save and can go back to the ACC without losing anything.

I just replayed a mission to acquire a specialist solely so (buddy spoiler)
DD could knife a motherfucker

I mean I can't see myself playing a better game this year.

That's nothing. I'm reluctant to get into specifics. I'll say this much, short of D-Dog silently destroying helicopters, nothing can top it.

i just developed the water gun

so now i run around knocking out mother base soldiers and spraying their crotches while they're passed out to make it look like they peed themselves

a weapon...to surpass metal gear

Want to know what pure disappointment feels like? Well...

a) Take one of the coolest NeoGAF (or any forum) usernames
b) Maybe the poster is okay, but the username is fucking epic and the avatar is funny too
c) Time passes on and you see the username a bunch, making it a common sight comforting you and making you smile
d) You watch Peace Walker cinematics on Giant Bomb and find out the username is actually just a character from a 5 year old game.

That's what disappointment feels like. Now I bet next I'm gonna find out Übermatik isn't an actual raccoon...

suck it
